mista morino
Finally !! I ( and many like me) have been waiting for this confirmation for a while now, not knowing ( but hoping ) if silencers would make a come back in GTA IV. NOw , according to the new pic ( the one of Niko standing in the elevator ) it is confirmed !! Hopefully we will be able to add silencers to automatic weapons as well. Which brings me to these questions : How big a part do you think stealth will play in GTA IV ? When will we have access to those silencers ? Will they ( the silencers ) be detachable ? Will the guns using a silencer use different kind of ammo ( like in SA ) ? your thoughts please...
LCM
How big a part do you think stealth will play in GTA IV ? I always play Grand Theft Auto as stealthily as possible, I'm not really one for blowing stuff up until I've completed it. Probably because I play Hitman alot. If they're in, I hope silencers are detachable, that'd be good.
chapman_bobby
Honestly I'd like to detach and attach it on the fly. I am a big silencer fan, even though I'm not subtle with it. I do hope stealth is a very large part of the game, IF you want it to be. I also hope that direct offense is possible as well. Honestly, my favorite thing about GTA is how open you are to trying different strategies and different plans to complete the mission. But yes... Silencers are one of my favorite things for some reason... Honestly I don't even like guns. I'm a knife kinda guy. -Bobby
leftylucky
The silencers should be detachable, and they should be a seperate item. To counter people always having their silencer attached, they could balance it by making silencers very expensive and hard to conceal. Just imagine if you used a silencer on the "kill Shyster the lawyer job" in the demo. The whole outcome might change if you decided to take him out quietly. Instead of being alerted right when you shoot him, youd be able to kill him quietly, hide his body in the closet if the secretary checks on him, and then make your way out nice and clean as if everything went smoothly. They should give you the option to play stealthy or aggressive for every job you do.
Seachmall
Silencers fit in well with the new realism they're going for. If your going to shoot someone and you've planned the killing your going to get a silencer unless you plan to take your own life in the end. A hit, like the one described in the first (?) mission, is unrealistic if you don't have a silencer.

I just hope that R* won't limit us like they did in SA ( by that I mean give us access to some weapons only past the second half of the game , like the rocket launcher in SA ). mista morino
Just thought of something , they should have a silencer for the shotgun ( as in the movie No country for old men ). The only game that I've seen with this was Hitman Blood money, but you couldn't conceal it. Still it would be a nice addition.

Typhus
If I'm honest I predict that silencers will only be for show. You know, to please stealthaholics like myself.

I hope they won't be just for show. In SA it felt like that , you only had one mission ( the one in Mad Dog's house ) where it was used, the rest of the time it wasn't usefull very much. But , as they say in one of the trailers, things will be different !
USMCfaithful
You guys know that silencers don't really silence a gun shot... they actually mask the sound so people don't think its coming from a gun but instead they might think it was something else. -Eddie-
They're actually called suppressors. The reduce the noise of the weapon (but don't eliminate it), and reduce the visible flash coming from the barrel, although most standard NATO weapons don't produce much of a visible signature anyway. They're only really useful for Special Forces operations, reconaissance operations (albeit mainly conducted by Special Forces) and sniper operations. Edit: This is the visible flash emitted from an M107 (.50cal/12.7mm) heavy sniper rifle when fired: Edited December 6, 2007 by -Eddie-

But my point was that I'm glad that they included them ( the silencers / noise suppressors ) in the game and hope that they play a bigger part this time around. freshlaundryX
But if you can't drag bodies then does the silencer really help that much? I really think we should be able to hide bodies... that big ol trunk comes to mind. Hmmm... This is totally unrelated, but I want to hold onto my cars longer too. I want to deck out a ride and fall in love with it, not just leave it at the crime scene and jack some junker on the way out. "you never leave a man behind!"
