Prologue - Black Mesa Inbound Act One - Anomalous Materials - Insecurity - Welcome To Black Mesa BLACK MESA INBOUND (Prologue): Barney and Gordon's Story --- ''Good Morning and welcome to Black-Mesa Transit system.'' Gordon Freeman stood there, staring at all the lights and people working on machines. ''f*ck!'' Barney Calhourn, the mid-level guard, shouted banging on the door. Gordon turned around to see him standing on a balcony violently hitting and kicked the door in. ''Open you piece of electric sh*t!'' Gordon turned around again. Machines were working and scientists and officers were facing a track on machines. The train passes through a tunnel were more work is going on. Gordon, bored, sat down and rested his neck on the seat. Thoughts ran through his head. What will happen? Will today go great. Suddenly, something stood out in the corner of his eye. He turned and saw another tram go past. A mysterious man, small and wearing a suit stared at Gordon and fixed his tie. Gordon thought, 'Who was that?'. The train went into another tunnel. Back near the start of the track, Barney finally got into the door after constant cursing and hitting. As soon as he walked in, another Guard snook up behind him and hit him on his back. ''What the f*ck was that for dipsh*t?'' Barney said. ''Shut up 'mid-level'.'' The guard said. This particular guard was a high level and could sack any bottom or mid-levels in Black-Mesa. Bastard. Barney, being reckless as usual, grabbed him and pushed him on the balcony. Barney hung the high-level guards head in front of a train about to pass by. The guard screamed. Barney grabbed him back right before it hit him. ''You psycho! I will get you sacked before you can say 'f*ck you'.'' ''f*ck you!'' Barney shouted afterwards as he walked off. Barney sighed. He stared at the piss patch the High level left on the rail. A scientist walked out onto the balcony. ''What was the screaming?'' The scientist asked. ''Nothing.'' Gordon finally arrived at Black Mesa's station. A guard stood in front of Gordon shaking him. Gordon stood up. ''Hello? Wake up Mr. Freeman. You are late.'' Gordon followed the guard down the path to the retinal scanner door. The guard opened it for him. Gordon thought about his dream. All hell went loose in his dream. An experiment went wrong and soldiers came in to kill Gordon. They succeded right before the guard woke Gordon up. ''Have a great day Mr. Freeman. Make sure you survive.......'' Gordon stared at the guard. ''...all the paperwork you get given.'' Gordon was relived and walked through the big doors. They shut and more opened. Gordon stepped through. --- Edited August 8, 2008 by poikly
Chickstick
The description and dialogue was decent. Unfortunately I had no idea what was going on as I have never played Half-Life! How about something original, something you don't have to have seen or played already to understand? On the plus side, though, your writing skills have improved tremendously. Really, compared to the stuff you were writing when I first started frequenting Writer's Discussion back in June, July time, this is a vast improvment. Well done. Really, compared to the stuff you were writing when I first started frequenting Writer's Discussion back in June, July time, this is a vast improvment. Well done. Thanks dude. It really builds up my confidence. You dont really need to have played Half-Life to understand as it is very different! Barney grabbed him back right before it hit him None of that is in the game! I added it so the story aint boring because it is a fanfic of an FPS.

poikly
Sorry about the wait, Christmas got in the way Anomalous Materials: Gordon's Story --- Gordon walked right up to the front desk. A security guard was working behind the counter, on a computer. Scientists were also on computers, reading and writing on clipboards. Screen's were on the walls, with pictures of different labs. A guy in a blue suit appeared on one of the shots. He was the same man from the tram! He was moving his mouth, saying 'In time, Mr. Freeman, in time.' The security guard on the computer finally noticed Gordon. ''Oh, Hi Gordon. You are pretty late today. You have to put on your Hazard suit in order to get into the test chamber. It should be just down the hall. Take the first right, then left and straight down to the changing rooms. An orange one should be in the middle of three containers. Dr. Cross and Dr. Green have took the other two. See you later.' Gordon nodded towards the guard and walked off. He went down the hall. Instead off going right as the guard said, he went straight down the hall, just for a look. As he turned around, he saw that same guy in the blue suit, talking to a scientist in a window. The man in blue turned around and saw Gordon. The man walked towards the window. Gordon ran back to the fork and went the right way. Gordon eventually got to the changing rooms. He looked in his locker to find books and wrappers. Also, some batteries were placed there. Gordon walked over to the panel. He opened a cover were a big red switch lay. Gordon pressed it before pressing the middle button. A capsule opened where the suit was then there. Gordon walked upto it before putting it on. The colour was mainly orange but had black spaces. It fitted Gordon like a glove. Gordon took the battery out his locker and placed it in the battery compartment, behind the Lambda symbol. Gordon took a razor and shaving cream out his locker and walked to the sink. Right as he turned the tap on, a message over the intercom was spoken. 'Can Gordon Freeman report to the test chamber immediatly?' Gordon left the cream and razor there and ran down the hall to the clearence door. Another security guard was there. 'Hi Gordon, I'll open this door for you.' The door opened instantly. 'There you go. Have a nice day.' The security guard said, smiling. Gordon went through the door and up the lift. He got to a room where three people stopped him. 'Gordon, there you are. Need a bit of a shave don't you think? I'm just joking. The sample has been sent to the test chamber.' One of them said. Another said: 'We boosted the anti-mass spectrometer to one- wait, to five percent. Bit of a gamble but we do need the extra resolution.' He said. The final one said: 'The administrator is worried but-' The scientist was interuppted. 'He doesn't need to know! There waiting for you Gordon............in the test chamber. Gordon walked through. He went dow the winding hall, full of pictures and red stripes to another lift. He went down it. He walked through another hall where two scientists where. They rambled on while Gordon was staring through a little gap in the door. It was the same chamber from his dream! Gordon was worried now. Finally, the scientists stopped talking and the big door opened. Gordon stepped through. The room was dark orange and extremely big. It had a ladder leading upto a balcony on the far side. In the middle was three big surfaces and on the ceiling was a unusually-shaped object with three things sticking out of it. Gordon was instructed to go up the ladder. He climbed up the grey ladder. He almost slipped as it was covered in a blue liquid. He got to the top and walked carefully to the panel. It opened and Gordon pressed it. The three things started spinning and a big light was sent through the middle. The three things got faster. He raced back down the ladder and waiting at the cage, thinking what will happen. The sample was sent up. 'Now Gordon, you have to push the sample into the beam of light, then just wait.' Gordon pushed it in, waiting to see what will happen. Suddenly, it went wrong. Electric beams were sent flying out the space. One hit the window where the scientists were watching and two of the scientists were killed. It is just like Gordon's dream! Gordon was then transported to an unusual world. Gordon couldn't breathe. Little creatures were biting Gordon's leg before a gigantic spider like monster appeared. It started walking towards Gordon before he was transported back to Black Mesa. It was a wreck and Gordon was transported back again. This time he was in somewhere pitch black. Gordon turned his light on to see three monsters about to attack him before his light went off and the monsters disapeared. Gordon stood there breathing heavily in the darkness... --- Edited August 8, 2008 by poikly

poikly
INSECURITY: Barney and Adrian's story --- Barney walked through the door and was greeted by the guard behind the counter. ''Good morning, Calhoun. Go grab your gear and sidearm before heading through the airlock. One of the lifts got stuck so you better check it out.'' The guard said. Barney smiled at the guard and walked down the corridor. He eventually made his way to the locker room. As he entered, the guard from the balcony ran upto him. ''Calhoun, you bastard! Make me a promise. If you don't tell anyone what happened, I will spare your worthless life and wont tell the administrator. Deal?'' He said. Worthless? Who does he think he is? Barney thought. ''Consider me fired then.'' Barney said. The guard frowned and walked back, where he changed his pants. Barney got to his locker which had a note on it. 'All hell will break loose. Get out while you can!!!!!!' The note read. At the bottom, it had a mysterious 'G' symbol. Barney was puzzled at it and put it in his pocket. He grabbed the flak jacket and put it on. Then took the helmet but put it under his arms. He made his way to the sink where he splashed water on his face and washed his hands. After drying, he put on his helmet, left and went to the lift for the armoury. Adrian was asleep at his desk, feet up with a game of 'Spider Solitare' running on his computer. 'ALL YOU LAZY MAGGOTS WAKE UP AND REPORT FOR DUTY!' The master roared as he went into the room. Everyone, including Adrian, came out of there laziness and reported outside. ''Seriously, I swear that when I get a chance, I will beat him up to a near-death experience!'' One of the soldiers said. Adrian couldn't agree more. Life was so boring in the army. Get up, train, get bullied by general's, repeat. If only something exciting would happen... Barney arrived at the armoury and picked up the Glock17. ''Here you go Calhoun. It ain't your time at the range but you can practise at an empty booth if you like.'' The man said behind the bulletproof glass. Barney went to the shooting range to check if it was empty. Unfortunetly, it wasn't. Still, Barney stole some clips that where lying by unsuspecting guards. A fat guard guard with a doughnut was not even practising! Barney left and went to the lift. Two scientists where in there. One looked really bored and the other really frightened. Barney pressed the buttons of the lift to get it to jolt. It didn't but Barney gave it a swift kick. It worked! But the lift was going faster than usual. Bangs where heard and so where shouts outside the lift. Barney stepped back and grabbed the rail. The lift started shaking. The scientists where panicking while Barney wondered what was going on. Barney pressed the emergency stop button and the lift came to a stop instantly, whacking all three of them forward onto the floor. A big portal device appeared with a creature coming out. It was dark brown, had one big green eye and a big red mouth. It lifted its hand and slashed one of the scientists with its sharp claws. Barney was then teleported to another world. he was losing his breath. ''What the f*ck?'' He gasped out before being teleported again to a factory-like place. Another one of those creatures appeared right in front of Barney. He took out his pistol and aimed at it. It slashed Barney's arm. Barney screamed as the vortigaunt prepared a lightening strike. Barney dropped his gun and stepped back in terror. Barney was instantly teleported back to Black Mesa again before getting hurt. The other scientist in the lift was dead too and the lift slowly moved down to a platform. Barney fell to the floor and went unconscious, exhausted. --- Edited August 8, 2008 by poikly

poikly
Welcome To Black Mesa: Adrian's story --- 'OK Men! What we are dealing with is most likely our hardest assignment yet! Our objectives are so far unclear because all we got told was to come right away. So if you see anything dangerous, just shoot and hope it works!' The General was explaining the mission to the whole team, very badly, with his usual Southern accent. Although he didn't admit it, Adrian was very excited to what would happen as he rarely got to do work like this. Adrian felt a nudge in his shoulder. 'Shepherd, do you have any spare clips? I forgot to restock when we left and...' John Humbler said, his voice trailing off into silence. John was Adrian's best friend since he joined the Marines. This wasn't a rare situation for John, as he was always careless. Adrian shook his head. He was lying as he did have around five spare clips, but he was not very keen on dying today. Besides, what person should take more than ten bullets to die? But what Adrian didn't know was that it wasn't a gang of people that was wrecking the facility... Adrian looked around him. He thought he must be in Black Mesa, already. The white walls were filled with screams and blood stains. Adrian noticed he was sprawled out on the once-polished white floor. He looked to his left and saw a flak jacket. Wondering whose this was, he looked downwards to his own chest and saw only his shirt. He slipped the jacket on, with great difficulty because of his dark, bloody injuries, and looked to his right to see and MP5 sub-machine gun. He picked it up and ejected the clip to see how much ammo was remaining in it. 7. He stuffed his hand in his clip compartment and pulled the final one out. He reloaded, stood up and walked down the hallway. The screams had disappeared. The hall went silent, with only the sound of electric sparks and Adrian's own footsteps audible. He progressed further down the never-ending hall, accidently hitting his shoulder on a piece of faulty machinery. This sent an electrical current through his body. After being badly shocked, he fell to the floor and saw a little beige creature with four legs and sharp pincers jump out at him. Adrian shot his gun towards it but missed. The creature jumped towards Adrian and mauled his face, but Adrian grabbed it from his face and pulled it off with great force, destroying the link between the creature and Adrian's face. He aimed perfectly at it but before he could fire, a giant fetus-like monster appeared in front of him. He stood back away from it, shaking, as it boomed out the words: 'I! AM! NIHILANTH!' Adrian instantly woke up with a shock. He looked around and saw he was back the in the helicopter, with the rest of his team mates gone. He moved his head to the right and saw his friend, John, prodding him with his finger. 'Ah, I see you have woken up. Seriously man, you scared me. I thought you were dead!' John said to Adrian. 'Come on, the rest have already gone.' John helped Adrian up. Adrian reached out above him to grab his mask. He put it under his arm and they both stepped out the helicopter. It was not a pretty sight. Blood was everywhere along with the corpses of ill-fated scientists and security guards. The sandy hills seemed to go on forever into the distance. Adrian was speechless. He didn't have the faintest idea of what could have caused all this. 'Holy sh*t!' John said to Adrian, also as surprised as Adrian. They walked ahead and could see two little figures in the distance. 'What is that?' They got even closer and Adrian felt fear rush through him. He put his mask on and reloaded his MP5. The creatures came into focus at last. They were brown, had red eyes and green bands on their head, around their wrists and on their legs. They must have spotted Adrian and John too. They started sprinting towards them before they attacked. One went towards Adrian and charged up an electrical strike. Before it could do it though, Adrian fired a whole clip at it, killing it. John wasn't even half as lucky. 'Help me, Shepherd. I have ran out of ammo! Help!' He screamed as the creature was sticking its claws into him. Adrian tried firing but it was no good. He used his whole clip. Without hesitation, he brought another clip out from his belt and reloaded his gun. But when he looked up, John was lying on the ground, not breathing at all. Adrian panicked. He killed the creature and knelt down towards John. He performed CPR but it was no good. John had died. Adrian felt really sick with guilt. If only he gave him the clip on the helicopter, John would have survived. He knew he had to carry on to the Black Mesa building to survive, and not mourn the death of a friend, so he stood up and ran forwards. He was about to avenge his friend's death. --- The next chapter will be next Friday. We will return to Gordon's story.
