Gabe Logan
Yeah. Looks like I will wipe off VISTA. Did you download The Suffering after?
Ring_of_Fire
Yes, downloaded it. Looks like the game doesn't work on Vista because the WM9Codecs isn't supported for Vista (which means it ain't installed). http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en I might have to probably replace some of the MSFC and the MSVC dll files with the new ones that your graphics card drivers came with, or try some weird compatibility mode settings at the same time. Also, you might have to delete some of the game's files too. ^ OK, scrap what I said above and what Midway said. Now here's The Suffering 1: Prison is Hell running on Windows Vista without compatibility turned on: Can't believe you made me waste my time... Gabe Logan
Wait. So you have got it working under VISTA??? If you have would you be able to tell me the steps you took to get it running? Edited November 24, 2007 by Gabe Logan
Ring_of_Fire
Well its only one game I am having a problem with and thats THE SUFFERING. When I install game a message comes up saying this application can only be run with 98/ XP etc etc. You are trying to install or run the game? Set the compatibility to Windows XP if you are installing. When running the actual game, set compatibility to Windows 98. I have tried changing the compatibility and when I try to install the patch, this message comes up. Error - 1642 The upgrade cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade. Try changing to Windows XP compatibility to force the installer to think your OS is in fact Windows XP SP2. If it doesn't work, then you need the WM9Codecs: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en (which cannot be installed on Vista). And why are you trying to install a patch when you are supposed to run the actual executable? Edited November 24, 2007 by Ring_of_Fire
Gabe Logan
Do you mean to change the game to Windows XP compatibility mode? I have tried that and I get a message telling me the game wont run in the compatibility mode. Did you get it running? Also I have installed the game fine, its when I go to launch the game thats the problem.
Ring_of_Fire
Do you mean to change the game to Windows XP compatibility mode? I have tried that and I get a message telling me the game wont run in the compatibility mode. I need a screenshot of the error message and where it happened. Anyway, since the game is already installed. Set the compatibility to Windows 98. But please give me a screenshot of this error message. Did you get it running? See MY screenshots above. Gabe Logan
It amazes me how you have got it to work and I cannot. What exactly did you do? Edited November 24, 2007 by Gabe Logan
Ring_of_Fire
What exactly did you do? Got every single file to do with thefull version of The Suffering, and placed it on my hard drive. YOu should make sure you installed the game fully and properly. I would like to see the folder contents as well (my own is 1.47GBs). What version of The Suffering is yours? Downloaded or Retail/Boxed? Gabe Logan
Mine is the retail version, 2 disc. Is there anything else I can show you that may help.
Ring_of_Fire
It amazes me how you have got it to work and I cannot. Looks like you have some protection software on the actual "The Suffering.exe" executable. You gonna have to... *See your PM*
Gabe Logan
Yes its something do to with protection. Here is the pic of what I mean Edited November 24, 2007 by Gabe Logan
Ring_of_Fire
I have the same layout as you. First things first: Disable UAC, and make sure you are an administrator (which I think you are). http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm But of course the real fix is, assuming you can find one... ^ And I think I could fix my problem since my copy of the game didn't have a copy protection software. This pretty much sucks: No compatibility mode chosen = Incompatible OS (Vista). Compatibility chosen = "You cannot use this feature, it's pointless." (even though that's actually the fix) Edited November 24, 2007 by Ring_of_Fire

Gabe Logan
Right. So I install the game. I then install the patch/crack into the Progam Files where THE SUFFERING is located. Dont I have to delete setup exe that already is in the Progam Files and replace it with the new patch/crack? If you could provide a detailed step to step guide of how to install etc. I would be very thankful because perhaps I am just not intsalling it right. EDIT - It works and you my friend are a legend.
