Any of you bought the manhunt sealed copy?

I would have bought it if I had seen it with enough time. It sold for cheap in my opinion.

Possibly the rarest version of Grand Theft Auto in existence entitled "Grand Theft Auto Value Series" comes with a yellow disc as opposed to the usual red version. You wont see this one on the market very often, even harder to find sealed, great addition!  jyDTV0E.jpg cW0VsT9.jpg

Another rare one is the North American PC release with the BMG logo. GTA 1 was released in North America on 27th March 1997 1998. That same month BMG Interactive, the publisher of the game, was acquired by Take Two Interactive, who would later form Rockstar Games. I have seen one or two North American copies online with the BMG logo, so they do exist, but they're rare. Note that I am not talking about the European release, which was released on 21st October 1997. Obviously it's easier to find a BMG copy of that, though it's still uncommon.

@jm-9 Didn't know there was such a gap between the two releases, wow. Also, I thought October 21st was when the initial release happened. At least that's what Google states. Interestingly enough, we didn't have the exact date up until only recently, prior to that it said " October of '97 " only. May I ask how exactly do you know about North American release and that precise date?

Sorry, that was a typo. It was released in North America on 27th March 1998. Still a fairly big gap though. It seems that ASC Games distributed it in North America, but BMG was still the publisher. At least I think that was the relationship between the two. I got the date from Wikipedia, which has this as its source. I also got the date of the Take-Two buyout from a wikipedia source here.

There was a similarly big gap between the two PlayStation releases, December 1997 in Europe and June 1998 in North America. I'd guess that BMG just weren't confident enough initially to do a worldwide release, so they released the European version first. DMA Design being based in Scotland probably had something to do with that.

Have a read of this by the way. It discusses how the BMG higher-ups lacked confidence in their games publishing division and sold it, including their employees (including Sam Houser) and their IPs, to Take-Two for $9 million, missing out in 20 years of billion-dollar profits from GTA games.

Here is a jewel case-only version that I bought recently. You can see BMG references on the disc and the back of the case. If I recall correctly, the BMG logo is also on the back of the manual. When it arrives I'll check it out and post further about it if I see any differences.

Wow, that book seems like an interesting read, despite the fact I probably know every little detail about those games, lol. I wonder what magazine included it? The price on the other hand...

Like I mentioned, I own it and got it for $5 not that long ago, I think also from eBay. It definitely doesn't contain anything new :P

I could scan parts of it.

This arrived today. There aren't a huge amount of changes in comparison to the European version or later American version. As I thought, the cover slip, which I thought was the manual, also has the BMG logo. The game itself has the ASC Games logo instead of the BMG logo during installation and on startup. The name of the Windows version is GRAND THEFT AUTO like the BMG European version, instead of Gtawin like later versions. Both the EU and US exes are version 1.0.0.1, with the EU version having a modified date of 10th October 1997 and the US version having a modified date of 6th February 1998. Presumably later Take-Two releases have a later date.

Otherwise, it's likely that it's identical to later Take-Two prints. I can't say for certain though, because I don't have one to compare. Still, this represents the earliest American release of GTA.

Overall, BMG was the original publisher of the following editions of GTA:

  • European PC (two box art variations)
  • European PC Limited Edition
  • North American PC
  • Japanese PC
  • European PlayStation (two box art variations)
  • European PlayStation Limited Edition

Anyone interested on a brand new sealed copy of GTA SA Special Edition? To be honest I'd like to get about 130 USD + shipping on it, but feel free to make an offer. I have more pictures available.

No need fam, but thanks anyway! On the other hand, I would bother you every single day if it was something more obscure and rare 🤣

Couple of screens wouldn't hurt though, so you can drop the link here or contact me via pm whenever you find suitable.

@RIDE2DAY

Ah, that elusive Special Edition... I'm happy with mine, even though it has been opened by previous owner and he didn't mention the poster is missing which pi$$ed me off a little bit. Still cannot bump on a proper poster for it.. Usually shipping from the US is 20+ USD and I don't plan to pay that much for a poster, which btw I already have, just from different versions, lol.

It went for 560 USD. I think the POS didn't bid this time. However, he bought recently a Midnight Club II promotional item for ~ 150 USD and now it's for sale for ~ 784 USD, interesting... 😂

@ChengizVlad09 I suppose the SA Special Edition could be a little bit more "special", like Bully's one, but yeah... it's still a nice item I like to have in my sealed collection since I've spent a lot of time playing this game.

I have two units at the moment, both sealed and I'm willing to let one of them go. I don't know how fair the price is so if anyone is interested, just make an offer; I'm trying to ask less than the two copies I have found for sale on eBay, which are over 200 USD.

Hey, I was told I should post this here. I've made a post on Reddit with a list of every item I own and pictures of all of them. I'll keep the list up to date with every new item I get, and let me tell you, I'm only just getting started. Check it out

If I had known about this forum before, I would have used it instead of making a whole subreddit just for that, lol.

That's a helluva collection you have got there, I like it! Be free to make your own thread here as well, under the Merchandise section - https://gtaforums.com/forum/428-merchandising/ . You can always drop by our Collector's General Chat for a word about pricing, rarity or inquire about any kind of guidance and help when it comes to Rockstar Games merch. Or you can simply paste some pics of your newly acquired pieces up for display to brag a little 😉. Happy hunting!

Apparently this Brass Knuckle was given out as a promotional item during a contest held by Rockstar sometime back in New York City i believe, i have tried for months convincing the guy who has it to sell it to me.
