I asked because I thought the packaging just looked cool and I had not seen it before. I tried googling but that didn't give me much. So I went to the one place where I knew I was likely to find an answer, The Collector's Thread, because I knew I would get a decent answer.

Your question is a total normal question, years ago I tried to find the answer, but didn't find anything. The shiny and not shiny versions are the same, more precisely, these are common versions with the same discs and papers, neither is rarer than the other, but what's true, I don't know why there are two different type of them.

Once Again I’m not mad. It’s annoying aspect of what people deem rare or not. The first edition of VC which is 1.0 is that shiny lettered copy. I have that version sealed for pc. Cost me about 20 bucks years ago. I’m not going “iTZ RArE, ShOuLd I sElL?”

I've been wandering around this forum for a while now and I guess this is a proper thread to post this (if not, let me know and I think I'll create a new topic in the Rockstar Collectors section).

 

So, long story short: I started to get rid of a lot of my stuff (minimalism hit me). Started donating, selling and throwing away stuff. And to my surprise I found the following in a drawer that I haven't opened in ages: a San Andreas bandana, two stickers, two dice valve stem caps, a foam can cooler and 10 poker chips (one of which is a black "Blind Dragon"). First thought was "I'm gonna be rich!" but then quickly realized I'm not 13 years old, so chill. Just chill. And then I chilled and decided to do some research in order to properly estimate these items' value.

 

I have a question, if someone could kindly help out with some info: does anyone remember some forums (aside from this one) that were already well known and popular at the time San Andreas was released? The reason I'm asking is because I won all of these items at a contest on one of these forums, two weeks after the game's release. The idea was to send a funny in-game screenshot and I won second place (also had a cap but sold it for peanuts about 6 years ago - facepalm). For the life of me I can't remember the name of the forum but I have a vague image in my head that the color scheme was...brownish, orange, kind of like a sunset golden hour...

My point with this is that it's the only way I could prove that the poker chips are from the first edition - from what I understood up to this point, these are more valuable than the 2nd edition. I haven't yet decided on a price for any of the items as I'm still researching and feel that I have something of value. Only that value isn't like....$1million. I don't think that's how life works :))

 

Any pointers are highly appreciated

Ignore him. I can't help you with other forums, I wasn't around GTA communities back then but @uNi might know something. That's some cool SA stuff you've got, in good condition too, love the dice!

As for other GTA forums you can try contacting the admin of TheGTAPlace which is one I do know but I'm not sure if they still want/have any GTA stuff or are willing to do business - maybe try the fansite's Twitter account that still exists:

First, @Kirsty & @Spider-Vice thanks a lot for the advice! The same goes for the people privately messaging me, I appreciate it! As soon as I'm done with work I will check out your info.

@MrAnderson247 I see no problem with your approach, as far as I'm concerned each reply (besides being helpful or irrelevant) boosts this topic which in the end helps, so thanks - and I mean it. As far as the attitude, it amuses me to see some things or patterns of behaviour haven't changed since I was active here back in '05. Only difference is that I stopped taking "witty" comments to heart and just carry on. Imagine if I said I'm selling one valve dice for $1000 <-joke.

I mostly collect sealed games and guidebooks, I think what I’ve spent on sealed games should have been put to actual merch so I could have tonnes like others here. I do got a bit of merch though. I really want to share my stuff but honestly it ain’t nothing surprising.

I usually don't like bundles/compilation releases, but all these years later I'm still in love with the GTA Trilogy Xbox release. It's the nicest GTA release we've ever had in my opinion. Way better than the PS2 trilogy packaging.

 

I've had 2 sealed copies of this for years: one is in absolute mint condition and I will never open, but one of them had quite a beaten up outer case, and several tears in the seal, so I decided to open it up and soak in the nostalgia of those crisp booklets/maps and marvel at the unblemished discs lol. How nice is this edition though, I love the use of the artwork, and often cardboard packaging is flimsy and low quality, but this one is thick and very nice.

Its actually not a pencil holder but a beer kozy. I would say semi common, although i have seen quite a few of these the last year and a half

That’s explains allot, thank you! The seller didn’t also know what it is . Happy with it. Im couple of months on eBay now, searching for most of time for GTA collectibles, but didnt see this one yet.

Guys what's the story with this? Never seen it before. I'm struggling to make out the writing, but it looks like top right: "90's classic west coast hip hop from GTA San Andreas, first time on vinyl 160gr black(?) LP, limited edition, only 150 copies, special vinyl ?????" I can't make out the rest. Then the bottom label looks like it says 'Green Sabre Records'.. I'm a bit unclear as to the origin of this piece.

It's from the same 'Green Sabre Records' (lol). This says it's an unofficial Russian release though. The notes section seems to match up with the 160gr 150 copies: 

 

'Unofficial 160 gram press.
Limited edition of 150 copies.
Includes stickers and picture insert.
July 2021, Russian Federation'

 

If it's unofficial isn't it illegal to use the copyrighted GTA branding if they're selling it for profit?

 

edit: also just found this page when searching for 'Green Sabre Records'. It's in Russian but translates to "Finally a release! Black vinyl, 180 g, 250 pieces, insert, stickers - all according to the canons. Among all that is happening, you can put the needle on the record, close your eyes and remember how you get away from the police on Buffalo on the night San Fierro on 4 stars under Personnel Jesus or Killing in the name. Send a message to the public for an order."

 

So I'm fairly certain now that this is a Russian company that produces unofficial GTA vinyl
