Why did Diaz do it?

In the opening cutscene of VC, Vic doesn't have a columbian voice. However, some brothers look the same so that means Pete looked like Vic. They didn't know anything about their father, he might've been columbian that gave Pete/Vic his voice. Vic has a more deeper voice, and on the opening cutscene it's all columbian and that. So it can't be Vic.

I know it looks like it was Pete who died, and I would have agreed with you some time ago, but I kinda stoped thinking of so cos I noticed that Rockstar had named the character "Vic Vance" in the official website of Vice City(If I remember it corectly, they had this info on the "police bulletin board" or something). Sure you could make some sort of explanation for it, like "the cops of Vice City thought it was Pete since he was so different", but I doubt that Rockstar would make it that complicated. Vic is the one who died in the beginning of Vice City, believe me.

I think he was knocking out the compition even though he didnt know who it was. We dont know whether it was Vic or Pete that was killed but Lance was there. As seen in VC and VCS Lance, excuse me, Quinten and Diaz had a good friendship.

My theory is that Diaz didn't know it was Vic, Remember that the drug deal was set up secret, and once Diaz got wind of it, all he knew was that there's going to be a big drug deal, lots of coke and money. And to Diaz's knowledge, Vic is out of town, s Diaz just sent his goons to kill whoever was there and collect the stuff.

Look at the opening again. That is not Lance at the deal. It is one of Diaz's men. The guy is definitely Cuban. VC doesn't shown Vic being killed or explain how or when it happened. One of what looks like Diaz's men or is it Gonzales? Gets whacked and Lance flies off. VCS gives us good reason to believe that Lance was ripping off Diaz and that Vic knew about it and possibly tried to sell the stuff anyway. Diaz probably found out Lance was ripping him off and killed both of them because they were working together on the deal. It sounds as if Vic set it up and Lance went to the deal. Weird. I just watched the opening on my PC. At first it looks just like Vic. Then when Vic is talking the scruffy beard and the receding hair line make him look like Gonzales or some other Cuban goon. The first time I ran it on my PS2 I thought that is Vance then when he was talking and seeing the balding patch made me think he looked more like Gonzales or Diaz. Lance must have put a lot of stress on him in 2 years.

 

Maybe Rockstar wanted to take out the Haitian/Cuban fights after the fall out from the last game. Vic is supposedly part Dominican which is on the same island as Haiti. Maybe they didn't want to seem like it was Haitian versus Cubans again? So they made him American black instead?

Wait, I always thought it was Sonny Forelli who ordered an ambush. I thought Diaz was killed wrongly, remember, the only knowlege we have of him setting it up in VC was from Lance, who is an asshole and unreliable source.

And hasn't anyone seen the first cutscene in VC, when Sonny was talking to Tommy, with bags of coke and money clearly visible on his table? Since Tommy was their first, and at that time, only move into the drug bussiness, the couldn't have had that before the deal.

 

IMO he ambushed the deal, killing everyone for the coke. By killing his own men, he takes away suspicion and threat of retaliation from himself.

 

Besides, in the intro cutscene, they were talking about doing long-term bussiness and having someone 'do their dirty work' i.e. planning to let Tommy go around VC, trying to get the coke ambushed, and failing. So he will start running around, doing bussiness and sending them their 'nice quite slice' due to his sense of responsibility. The Forreli family's plan was not just to make money out of the initial deal ambush (which they got free coke out of), but also to extort and exploit Tommy's sense of responsibility.

 

The story of VC is fascinating and much more complex than most of you might think, understandably because of the extremely subtle details the storyline drops, which require a lot of interpretation.

Umm... sorry but it has become very clear that Sony had nothing to do with the deal ambush, it was Diaz who did it. Sony sent Tommy to Vice City to expand their empire "down south", so why would Sony ambush his own deal? There were a couple of men dressed in black who gunned down Vic (possibly), Harry and Lee. Sony was clearly angry cuz he lost his money and the "yey". Those men in black were working for Diaz, not Sonny. You need to check the story once more...

Sonny had to be in on it with Diaz. How else does he get the money and the coke in the first scene. Maybe Diaz had nothing to do with it. Of Course Sonny acted mad when Tommy says the money and the coke are gone. What else is he supposed to do if he was setting him. Remember the opening they are asking how to keep Tommy on a leash? Someone ask how does Rosenberg keep Tommy on a leash? The answer was we don't have too. Give him some spending money and turn him loose down there. In a couple of months we pay him a visit. If the deal was ambushed then it seems the Forellis use the ambush to make it look like the takeover is just looking to get back what they lost.

 

There is no doubt Sonny was part of the setup. Was Lance? We know in the end he betrays him. Was he betraying him from the beginning? Was Lance always in Sonny's pay. Lance didn't give a crap about anything but money. It is apparent in VCS he doesn't give a crap about Vic and wants to take over.

 

Diaz has motive but so does Sonny. I thought Diaz and Sonny were in on the setup together. However, Lance being in Forelli pay all along could be the reason why the blame is cast on Diaz and not the Forellis. The Forellis wanted Diaz to be the fall guy so they can take over. Remember when Sonny has the coke and the money and Tommy kills him he will find who did it and send their members to him? Sonny replies I know you will.

 

So it was all Sonny in a plan to take down Diaz and take over Vice City, which backfires, or Sonny and Diaz did the ambush together so Sonny could keep Tommy on a leash, he owned the family whereas if the deal went off then Tommy just sends him the money is out. If the deal is busted Tommy is on a leash as long as he doesn't find the coke, and he won't, the family has something to motivate him. Diaz wants the ambush because the Vance brothers stole his coke. Whether or not that is the coke being sold then.

 

It seems to work for Diaz and Sonny until Tommy finds out it was Diaz who did it.

People have tried this technic for years. The problem is that game companies probably WANT this sort of conspiracy thing happening on forums. It might mean that people would actually buy the games so they can find out why people are complaining about it. But in any event if someone even does email a person with a request about that I doubt anyone but the writers at Rockstar actually know. I am just guessing the programmers are to busy perfecting GTA 4's engine to answer questions the fans are asking about previous games.

 

But anyway I agree with Ash's explanation. It makes perfect sense

The reason Vic was killed was because a deal was being made without going through Diaz so he had become pissed and sent men to crash the deal.

The gunned down man just looks like Pete! If you see how he walks in the cutscene you spot diffrence. He's also fat.

Can you show us a pic of Pete if the guy in VC looks just like him.

OMFG! Anyone thought that Sonny and the members of the Forelli Mafia Family doesn't need reasons to kill Tommy? They could have killed him after he did the job down in Vice City, just because he was in prison for 15 years in Liberty, and the Forellis don't want Tommy contacted with them....because 'It would be bad for business"

 

Don't be lame guys... The only reason why this idiotic "Vic didn't die in vc" is still here is that, you are trying to make misteries on your own...

The reason why Diaz killed Vic is very clear to see. He had too much power on the streets of Vice City [look at how many businesses he has taken over in VCS] and he needed some guys to get rid of him...THAT's why Vice City's biggest Drug Baron in 1986 is Ricardo Diaz...
