Hitman: Absolution

Ever since I hit the Dexter missions, I've really hated it. I'm not sure why, maybe because its such a huge area and there's so many ways to go about getting from point A to B that I've just set myself up for disappointment with whatever I pick. I think I just feel really overwhelmed throughout those parts that I kind of forget how to actually go about it rather than just shoot the place up. I really hope they do sort out those disguise system though, it really f*cks me off when you run out of instinct and get caught just because you got within 500 yards of someone in the same outfit...

To be honest Splinter Cell Conviction was more fun to played with than this one. But it's also enjoyable when killing everyone.. doing gun blazing.. devil.giframpage_ani.gif

So stealth doesn't play a huge role in this one? If not, then I must say I am utterly disappointed. confused.gif

It's still a stealth game, but the thing is you're more often used the kind of stealth like in Splinter Cell Conviction and Metal Gear Solid than social stealth like what the real Hitman games was all about. The disguise in Absolution is sucks and utterly useless. Enemy's can see from miles away and can easily recognize u which is annoying and disappointing. No wonder why many fans especially the hardcore fans are upset of this one cause of what IO did of this wonderful game. They only want to attract new players than the old one.

^ That really is a shame... might have to buy Black Ops 2 now.

*sigh*

Or wait for the game to drop the price or rent it. Like I said it's still a stealth game.

I know, but not the traditional Hitman style. I'll most likely still buy it though. icon14.gif

I personally love it, I think the game has lost a little, but gained a lot.

It had to evolve, and I'm glad to be playing a new Hitman game, the disguise system is a lot more difficult, and the whole instinct thing, isn't too much taste, but ignore those, and if you are big fan of hitman, you'll still enjoy this.

Playing it on hard, is very difficult though.

I do like how it's not so punishing on those who wish to take the violent route though. Incapacitating guards is no fun when there are knives and screwdrivers lying around tounge.gif

I'm finding it harder to go rambo style to be honest.

I really dislike the whole instinct thing for remaining incognito, going on a ledge on one mission makes you visible for the enemies, I used 'instinct' and they made no attention. Seems like a weird addition to the game, I miss the old maps.

Some notable features were missing but it was a great game overall. I didn't like the fact that you can only open doors (you can't close them or look through keyholes)

Like other users already stated the disguise system is a pain in the ass, it feels like you are playing on the hardest difficulty with eagle vision NPC's.

I also though the checkpoint feature was a joke, loading a save in which you killed 10 guys is going to revive them, and not only that, but the targets would spawn in different spots (so if you saved with your target in front of you then you are out of luck)

<SPOILERS

The ending was kinda empty, killing Sheriff Skurky in the church and then hearing Ave Maria while you walk out of a burning city. That should have been the true ending of Hitman.

I'm a Hitman fan, I loved the brutal difficulty of it, the searching for the perfect way to kill someone and the flawless escape.

It sounds like they've lost it all.

I was really wanting this but it sounds alot like it's ALL set up like the introduction mission for Blood Money where the game walks you through the entire mission.

That's what all of the levels pretty much are, it just feels like the game is holding your hand through every level in some way or another, probably the only real difficulty the game has is the disguise system, which forces you to sneak around between cover even while disguised, which eliminates the purpose of disguises in the first place.

If feels like they scraped any real difficulty the previous games had in favor of this horribly flawed disguise system.

Not to mention getting through a level silently doesn't feel rewarding at all, unlike the previous games.

I've completely dropped this game. I acknowledge it's good qualities, but it's over for this game.

The first telling signs of the direction Absolution was taking were true. I should've trusted my Instinct... wink.gif...

One of the irritating things that almost kills the game for me is how the scripted actions only happen if you get close enough to the action. Like if you know what triggers the script of the action, you can avoid it altogether. It is too predictable at times, and the contracts mode is good, but not many people have interesting scripts or route points, so it creates no interest for choosing them as a target.

I think the disguise feature is passable. I am fine with people recognizing you if you are using the same disguise, because if you learn the disguises, it makes it fun for a bit. What is controversy about it for me is whether it is really realistic or not. Realistically, not many of the occupations would care about you. I mean the AI is good for a game, but easy to trick. I mean some disguises like the chef should not be suspicious to other chefs because there are so many different markets. Not every chef is going to know each other. But others like cops is more reasonable since they will know who is really a officer.

I am about half way into the story and I have not seen one of those missions where you interact with the NPCs in game similar to some of the levels in previous games.

I think you guys are being kind of unfair, especially those who haven't played it yet. Sure it's not a perfect Hitman game and it's no Blood Money, but as previously stated, if you view it as it's own game objectively, it still works. That's not to say there aren't any flaws, especially in the disguise system. But if you think about it, in real life, if a guy rocks up at a place that you work in with a specific uniform that you have never seen before, you would get suspicious, especially in my workplace. Sure some disguises where your face is covered, like the SWAT or ICA heavys, you might be able to get away with it.

On a lighter note, the soundtrack? What's the consensus? I was a bit dismayed upon hearing the departure of Jesper Kyd, whose scores had defined these games for me. Although the score doesn't move me emotionally like BMs did, it did still get my heart racing at some points, especially the main theme. Any word on when this is going to be released as well, I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.

Haha, you too? The Dexter missions are really a pain of the ass that I completely ignored stealth and went berserk with my guns. Those are the only missions I disliked in the game. Once I saw how massive the environment was in that level, I felt a bit turned off from just from the looks of things. But the part where you go inside the factory is pretty cool.

Yes, Absolution is still a stealth game. Is it a great game? Yeah. Is it better than Blood Money? Nope. Actually, Absolution has more in common with Codename 47 than any other Hitman games. And Codename 47 is definitely the worst Hitman.

Angry Joe's review is probably the most accurate description of the game

I'm just left with one achievement for the game. The one where you have to collect all the evidence. I think I'm just gonna wait for the disguises patch to come and go after the achievement once is patched. Makes things easier for me.

This game does have some cool easter eggs though.

Finishes the story last night, and started playing purist mode straight away. But like everyone else, im extremely disappointed in the disguise system, especially when YOU HAVE A MASK ON, they still see through it. And the magic pockets pissed me off a bit, but nevertheless I truly enjoyed the game, can't put it down smile.gif

For those who finished the story: So the ending with Birdie, did they leave that open for another game??

For those who finished the story: So the ending with Birdie, did they leave that open for another game??

I'd say it gives them two options really.

They can either:

A)

Now that 47 has done all he feels he owes the world, he can return to his work as a professional hitman.

Likely with a new agency now ran by Diana. Thus allowing one final actual Hitman

video game, and letting 47 fade into an 'Urban Legend' for a final time and they can peacefully let the series die.

B)

Let the story end how it has, with closure for the events of Blood Money.

There is another option of them over milking the series, but I'm not going to list it.

I really have hope for option A, even though Absolution isn't like the older Hitman games.

It was necessary to the story, as 47 had no choice but to go rogue.

A conflict with another project is what kept Jesper from doing "Absolution". Hopefully he'll be available for the next one. Since I am taking notes for use with my upcoming guide I put the game on pause a lot. Is it just me or does the pause music sound a lot like the pause music from "The Lost and Damned"?

They've confirmed the milking option it looks like. Apparently it's going to be a call of duty style duo studios making hitman games every few years. As long as they're good I'm not complaining.

Sad to read all the negative things said about this game. I loved Blood Money. Why do devs f*ck games up like that? All they had to do was make a 'Blood Money 2.' Take everything that makes the game great and elaborate and build on it..

100% agree man. That's what the fans wants in Hitman 5 a Hitman: Blood Money 2... No wonder why so many fans are so disappointed and upset on IOI especially the hardcore fans. They f*cking ruined the game. Why? Because they want to attract more casual gamers than their long time fans...

Just read on twitter that a patch is out for the game, mainly for the crashes and faulty saves I think, haven't had a chance to update my game yet so does anyone know if they also fixed other things, like the faulty disguise system?

Or being able to pick up items that are currently missing like the Notebook in "Shaving Lenny" and the TNT in "Countdown"?

Exactly. All they had to do is make it like Blood Money with better graphics. They didn't need to add the cover, checkpoint system and instinct. They also ruined disguises, they removed weapon loadout and made the levels smaller. All in all, it's a disaster. And it's boring. If I wanted a sneaking game I'd be playing Splinter Cell. I don't even care so I just shoot everyone. At least I'm having fun that way. I don't feel like I've accomplished anything when I do things stealthily. That's not supposed to happen in a Hitman game.

I tried a the contracts mode and that's a bit more fun. But not enough to keep me busy like the previous games. I think I'll just reinstall Blood Money and Contracts.
