Voodoo
And in all of what you just said, you just made me NOT want to get the game. Shame I ordered it now lol. I didn't mean to discourage, if you like stealth and games like Prince of Persia you'll be more than happy with it. It's visually stunning and mostly a really good game. I'm just whining a bit. ThePatriotsGun
So uhh.... I just beat the game. And all I have to say is why??!?!?!?!?! Why did they have to leave so many questions unanswered? After I beat the game, I had a big empty feeling inside. Yes, the ending was one of my biggest pet-peeves: a cliffhanger. No I have to wait 1 year for the next game to come out and dish out 60 bucks just because I want to know what happens next..... Son of a b*tch! Anyway..... I suppose I should spoil the story seeing as to how I put spoiler tags around this. Hmm... I don't want to give away the ending though. Oh, the plot twists! It's quite reminiscent of the Metal Gear series.

Andyzoot
Counter attacks for the win, best way to kill. 6 and half hours of gameplay and i'm only about to assassinate my 2nd target now, how slowly progressive am i. Yeah but the longer you draw it out it seems like you get more for your money. I always try not to rush my games as it feels like a waste of money if I complete it within the first few days. Anyway I've been convinced by your posts in this topic and the Gamespot review and am going to pick this up before work today (Why did I agree to work on a Sunday )
MyMothersMySister
Just freed all the civilians in Damascus. I'll do the same in Jerusalem and Acre but I'll show my arse on the forum steps before I go a hunting 400 or so flags. I enjoyed the games ending. I pretty much guessed the storyline but I thought the switch at the funeral was clever and didn't expect it I soon made amends though. Now to get those pesky combo kills. Seddo
It would of been awesome if it was like Crackdown, where you would be able to search around for all the flags together in co-op mode. Would be alot more fun searching for them.

On Monday Gamestation are going to contact the people who deal with the orders and see if they can get it sent the same day. So Tuesday is a possibility, if it's first class. Wouldn't deathmatch in the cities be crazy fun? I could totally see creeping around with no radar dodging throwing knives and camping for assassinations in the hiding spots. RMT
Counter attacks for the win, best way to kill. Aye, best way (for me) is to just hold off, hold right trigger and wait for them to attack, then just counter with X. I can hit 4 out of 5 counters. Took on about 20 enemies in the kingdom. All dead with'in 3 minutes. Other than that I find just planning an escape route extremely helps. Take them over roof tops, take a sharp turn down a small alley, lose the line of sight and then get to the nearest scholars or hay bail. Do the enemies get harder as you progress? or do they just chuck more at you? Pacrel Focre
Seddo
Do the enemies get harder as you progress? or do they just chuck more at you? They have for me, they've started climbing the buildings and stuff aswell as now throwing rocks at me when i'm climbing away and now i have archers firing arrows at me which knocks me off buildings or if you mean in combat, to me they just seem the same. Pancho the great
I just find that they become aware of who you are much easier as the game progresses. Also, I noticed when I got to the 7th assassination that they started throwing javelin like weapons that I cant remember the name of at you
Andyzoot
Pancho: Spears? I got it earlier, I'm not one to get excited over graphics but the ones in this game are SO nice! I haven't actually done much yet but I've made my way to Damascus and am about to get started on my first assassination. I'm quite liking the combat so far, the first time I got a combo kill was so cool with the close up of Altair shoving a sword through the guy's stomach. Brad
It depends on what part of the city you are in, to the difficulty of the guards. Well, thats what it is like for me!
Forty
I wrote up a small review of the game as I've played it thus far. If you don't want to know anything about the game, just read the last paragraph. There could be spoilers depending on your sensitivity to information. I don't reveal any story elements though. Assassin's Creed is the latest stealth assassin game from Ubisoft. Set in Crusades-era Jerusalem, you play the role of Altair, a member of a secret assassin's guild responsible for silencing radical views and tyrannical leaders in their land. Think Prince of Persia meets Hitman. You have the task of assassinating 9 figures, with each kill containing a variety of mini missions such as eavesdropping on conversations, intimidating citizens for questioning, or pickpocketing certain targets for info about your kill. There are also viewpoints scattered about the landscape from which you can expand the known territory. You climb these landmarks (which is always fun) and it unlocks nearby locations in the mini-map, and is always capped off by a dramatic leap into a pile of straw below. You can do any number of the mini missions to assassinate a figure, some only requiring 1 or 2 while others need all to be completed before the kill is approved by the Assassin's Bureau. For completion whores like myself, completing every mini mission is a delightful option that isn't forced upon those who prefer to play speedier paced games. The only big complaint with the mission formula is that is gets to be repetitive. Each assassination is the same process: climb viewpoints, do mini-missions, kill target, report to bureau. There are not that many different ways to kill people, nor many variances in how you can approach missions. They're all basically the same. I found it a bit hypocritical that you are given this huge open world to run, climb, and stab whomever...yet when it comes to actual game progress you are given very little decision making. This can be a big downside for those you get bored with repetition, but the pony-farming and ability to kill whoever you want should make up for some of that. There is a huge platforming aspect to the game where you can climb basically anywhere, leap buildings, run across rooftops, and all the other cool ninja sh*t you'd expect a medieval assassin to be capable of. I love climbing, and once you get into a continual line of motion, all of the platforming elements just sort of blend into one another. It's quite beautiful to see Altair flitting from crossbeam to rooftop high above the city streets. I do wish the climbing was a bit faster, since its pace is markedly slower than the otherwise slick running and hurdling. You can run around and kill whoever you want with a combination of moves and weapons. You have a long sword, a short sword, throwing knives, your mitts, and the best of all- a hidden blade up your sleeve that collapses telescopically, but pops out to jab people in the neck quickly and silently. The combat is very fluid once you get the hang of it. I like bum rushing guards to save harassed citizens, and the kill animations never get old. Fighting takes some getting used to as there is what I consider a somewhat steep learning curve- but once you understand the basics, you'll be chopping off medieval heads in no time. There is a nice slash-and-counter style to it, and there are more moves to be learned as you go. Part of the strategy of escaping the notice of guards and remaining anonymous (a big part of the game) is in using hiding places. You can run the rooftops Aladdin style, or you can take advantage of inconspicuous spots to stash yourself until the search dies down. Some of the hiding places are kind of lame, like sitting on a perfectly visible bench even when that bench is in broad daylight, or hiding in a rooftop garden with a guard 10 feet away- and he never thinks to pull the curtain to look for you. Also, other AI glitches include killing people and immediately going into stealth mode, wherein the guard won't ever notice that you just stabbed someone in the neck (even if you're standing over their dead corpse). As long as you're in stealth mode (head down, arms folded, sorta like a monk), they don't identify you. It's lame and doesn't take away from the game too much, though it's worth mentioning. One of my least favorite aspects of any game, including this one, is the inability to skip cut scenes. Entering an Assassin's Bureau for the first time typically triggers a two minute rambling from some anonymous tw*t you'll never care to hear again, and you're forced to stand nearby and listen to their narcissistic monologue till the end. The same happens when you rescue citizens or when you complete an assassination. I hate un-skippable diatribes in video games. This is a general trend in all gaming that I am opposed to. For the record, this game is stunningly beautiful. The textures and level design are gorgeous, and the dynamic lighting featured in Assassin's Creed is some of the finest in gaming today. Everything has a shadow and a body to it. The only unrealistic bit about the visuals is that it's always daytime. This is minor, however, and is rarely noticed. It should also be noted that the score is fantastic. It's very subtle but fits the scenery well and is not loud enough so as to be overbearing. The sounds of the NPCs in the city are great. They say all sorts of things, and you can overhear conversations of all varieties as you walk the crowd. Great game thus far. I'm really excited about it. I can see where people have their complaints, but I'm not yet ready to consider them disadvantages. More will be decided as I play further. The platforming and combat elements echo a healthy mix between frenetic Prince of Persia chase sequences and brutal Hitman/Thief sneak-and-hack-to-pieces assassinations. The graphics and lighting are top notch, and the announced downloadable content should keep a modicum of replay value (which is lacking, honestly) in what is an otherwise great one-play game. I don't imagine I'll play it beyond completion, but until then I can't help but enjoy this kick ass assassin game. Gameplay: 8/10 Enemy AI: 5/10 Controls: 8/10 Graphics: 10/10 Sound: 10/10 Replay Value: 3/10 Overall score: 8/
Seddo
Great review 40. You know when you walking around the areas of the cities and you get those fellas that kind of look disabled why the hell do they always give me a clout around the back of the head, doesn't half piss me off as i haven't even done anything to them. Sometimes they do it when you in the corner and they repeatedly do it to you so you can't get out then i have to tw*t them and get all the guards on me. They are annoying to no end. I've been just grabbing and tossing them every time I see them regardless of the proximity of the guards. It's mildly satisfying to just ram a sword into them and take the health penalty as well. I just about got knocked off the docks in Acre by drunks a couple of times which makes me wonder once again why nobody in the 12th century has figured out how to SWIM. But one of those spacks knock me into a guard and the whole place went mental. Had to fight the target (and he was hard, harder than those hidden templars) and about 20 other guards.
