I'm probably gonna buy this in that Assassins Creed+COD4 combo, if that deal is still in.

RMT
Got to say, I'm not won over yet. Distanced my-self from hype, tried not to let the reviews control me. Came into it with an impartial view. I'm only 2 hours in. The thing that's breaking it the most for me at the moment are the controls, they don't feel fluid enough (though to be fair, I've never been a fan of context sensitive things). But I'll wait off on criticising it beyond believe yet. Since I have only just started it. But it's like smearing sh*t into your face on a first date with a fine lady - not good first impressions. Forty
The only thing about the combat system that is frustrating is the need to press attack twice to actually make contact. You press X once to swing the sword, and you have to time the second button press at the moment of contact to be able to hit the enemy. Often times they stand too close to be able to pull this off, as you need a slight bit of room to swing the blade before it makes contact. If it was a bit more lenient, battles with multiple people would be more fun.

WidowMaker
I think the biggest complaint I saw was that the missions become repetitive and boring. I actually didn't understand this complaint at all until just the other day. I had gotten an early copy of the game just like everyone else in the media but I was just playing it for fun. I'd cracked into it over the weekend and when I got into the office on Monday I started seeing these negative reviews. When I saw the low scores I was actually really upset and I wanted to talk about the game here on the site. I wanted to tell everyone that these guys were full of sh*t. However, since so many of the complaints were based on the ending I wanted to beat it first so I was sure I wasn't missing anything. I attacked the game again but this time with the goal of beating it as fast as I could. I was determined to get a post up on Tuesday and I was pushing through the game as fast as I could. I went from finding every high perch in a district to only getting the ones I needed to advance the story. I stopped saving every citizen and avoided any unnecessary confrontations. The informer missions that I had really enjoyed before, I now avoided because I knew they took too long to complete. I did the bare minimum of missions to progress the story and anything that "hindered" my progress was frustrating. Monday night after skipping over another combat (something I used to really enjoy) I stopped myself. What the f*ck was I doing? I wasn't playing the game because I wanted to I was playing it because I had a deadline and I needed to beat it. I stopped immediately and decided I'd write about the game whenever I got around to beating it. I spent another day and a half with it and during that time I hunted for hidden flags and explored the cities again. I came in this morning and finally did beat it but I did it at my own pace and I enjoyed every part of it. Imagine what an open ended sandbox title must look like to a reviewer especially right now. How many games do they have piling up on their desks? A game like Assassins creed isn't meant to be played under a deadline. You shouldn't be trying to beat it as fast as you can so you can move on to Mass Effect or Mario Galaxy. As soon as I gave myself a deadline all of a sudden I understood all their complaints. It was like a f*cking Escher painting. I had put myself in their shoes and suddenly the landscape flipped and I could see games from their perspective. In the end I wasn't angry at them for their bad reviews. I actually just felt bad for them. Thought it was an interesting read. The same Penny Arcade than runs Ubisoft ads? Touché Is that all? Well for a start Penny Arcade usually only run ads that are for good games, that people visiting their site will have an interest in. If you had read the entire article on their website, you would see that they actually bad-mouthed Prince of Persia 2 (also by Ubisoft) while on the same page they were advertising it. So these guys have no problem talking sh*t about their advertisers. Penny Arcade is about as unbiased as it gets and I think Gabe makes a really good point. Get your facts straight before you go shooting the sh*t next time.
Mand'alor
Mine came! Almost missed the postman! Been playing it since it arrived. Got to go to work now, though. The first time you see Damascus is amazing. Same here, when I first laid eyes on the city I was like: Holy f*ckin sh*t! This game has lived up to the hype in my opinion and is rockin my socks off! Altaïr is one badass of a character. Edited November 17, 2007 by Nixon

CarpetDweller
Ubisoft... Transformers fans? You be the judge.http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=520521 Ha ha. It took me a few seconds to see what you were talking about, but when you see it - Prime is there. So here's my situation: I've read the manual of AC completely now and I'm very eager to start playing. But can't. A few days ago I ordered a 360, Assassins Creed, Orange box, Skate and a few others from Play. The games all arrived this morning. No sign of the X-box despite receiving the email that it had been posted a day before the games were. Hmm, so I'll just sit here reading the packaging and listening for anything that sounds like a delivery van, trying not to read the spoilers in this topic. Oh, and no-one ask me why I got an 360 over the "vastly superior" PS3. So many topics have appeared on this since I pressed confirm on my order. Oh... is that the rumble of a distant delivery van I hear? ...

Mafia Righthand_Man
How do I find groups of scholars to hide in, just randomly? Do I have to go to the scholar headquarters? I just did an assassination and I'm trying to find a group to hide in. Have you gotten to Damascus yet? As you approach the city for the first time, you'll be asked to save your first citizen. It's a scholar outside the city being harassed by guards. You kill the guards, speak to the man, and he opens the scholars for you to use. They are standing a few yards away towards the gate, and you walk between them and hit Blend. They also wait for you inside the city near the gates for you to be able to exit, and they are scattered around through the streets as well. Once you unlock them, they won't be hard to find. I assume you just haven't unlocked them yet.

original gangster
I've only just started on the second assassination... been spending ages just going around the Kingdom collecting flags. All view points found and 75/100 flags collected. It's an awesome game. But saving people from guards started to get tedious quickly.
Seddo
I've just this minute got in with a copy of Assassins Creed. The blurry bit at the beginning was weird, didn't have a clue what was going on. When you just want to play game because you've been waiting for so long the opening cutscene seems to last for a life time. The tutorial was boring aswell but all tutorials are so i'll let it off. Can't wait to play the game properly.

I'd like to know if I could expect it tomorrow. Probably Saturday, but not Sunday. I phoned them and they said they were originally planning to post it so it gets here on Friday, because I ordered it with Mass Effect and that hits the shelves on Friday (can't wait ). Quite cheeky of them I reckon; they just want to save money (postage). But they said they'd do a split and get it sent for Monday, which is better than nothing don't get me wrong - but a little annoying still.

Voodoo
Counter throws sound interesting. Don't spoil it for me, but are all the counters useful? Or just the kill counters. Counter attacks are allot more useful that counter grabs. I don't believe there's a finishing scene for the grabs, either. This is a gorgeous game, don't get me wrong but I'm just on the 5th assassination now and all of the climbing and killing is getting a bit tedious and repetitious. I'm getting pretty tired of having to run/gallop to the gate every time I leave Masyaf, too - a warp option would be nice. And while the maps are huge and beautiful, everything starts to look the same eventually. How many tower climbs/leaps of faith does it take to start getting really old? About 20. Maybe I need to take a break, because after 10 hours or so it's all just boiling down to a really pretty hack 'n slash fest.
