CG 48 LS Jetpack WOWAI

 

The round has just started... but I'm going to start this round's WOWAI for the jetpack. On to the first two hints:

 

1. Green as in grass. - Verdant Bluffs

2. The closest you'll probably ever get near me is while making a work of art. - Verdant Bluffs is almost unused during normal gameplay, except for tags. smile.gif

Has anybody else had problems this round? I see !!GameCH33TA!! and girishb had some difficulty. My first turn I had a heap of things done but the game crashed about 6 times. Always in the beginning of things, not too deep into the turn. But, the last time it crashed was just as I was done. I stepped into the save marker and got a black screen and a crash. I did Firefighter mission over and posted it as quick as I could. Then I got a PM that the save didn't work. I took my same save and uploaded it again so laezy could play. My second turn was OK.

It crashed for me only once... right after I finished 'City Circuit'. The second time was due to a power cut. I don't think it's a save related issue. If you're experiencing too many frequent crashes, it would be a good idea to delete the gta_sa.set file from the User Files folder.

Please report all game crashes this round. Try to include details.

 

 

Try to keep the safe house saves minimal. If you have a game crash problem on your system multiple saves are alright - save when you don't want to lose some progress.

 

Many of us take pride in minimizing the safe house visits, but I've long since given up on single save turns unless I'm just competing a mission. Scrap this suggestion this round. We've got armories all over the map. Go ahead and use them.

 

We've had difficulties with unstable saves in previous rounds and never figured out what the problem was. Removing the peeing bums scripts and cutting back on extra vehicles and objects seemed to help. However, I doubt rubregg has made any significant changes from the previous rounds. Did anyone have many problems last round?

 

I'm ignoring crashes from !!GameCH33TA!! for now. I suspect something might be wrong on his end. !!GameCH33TA, do you have crashing problems on non-CG saves? There are far too many crashes from other players to ignore the possibility of a problem. I am concerned.

 

Did anyone have any crashes before Stefan. took a turn? (girishb) Stefan., were your mods in place during that turn? Vehicle replacement mods shouldn't cause problems, but this is precisely the reason we specify that no mods are used on the chain game saves. (I think the only mod we tolerate is radioman's real names GXT replacement.)

@Orion, Actually, the only two things I use are the Real-Names mod and your optional .ipl file for the extra Armory objects. When I play in the Chain Game on my desktop, I have the optional .ipl for the Armories in place as well, but have never experianced any crashes-other than the normal Vista freeze accasionally.

 

Onto the safe house visits, I always save as much as I can-usually after each thing I do-example would be: after each R3 mission, I save, after each mission, I save, after each stadium event I save, etc. I have been doing this ever since I played on my old laptop, because on that laptop, the specs were below the minimum for the game, so I was prone to a lot of crashes, I started doing it on my desktop, since it is Windows Vista, and Vista has the problem of freezing at times-although updating the Video and Display drivers have fixed that problem for the most part. But I tried the game out on my new laptop, and on the Chain Game saves I tried, I get a good steady frame rate throughout the whole map with no lags. That has a better video card than my desktop-my new laptop has an Nvidia Geforce 8200M with 1407MB Vram, but the same Processor as my Desktop(AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 2.10 GHZ) and the same RAM 3GB, and the same OS Vista Home Premium. Even GTA IV runs good on my new laptop. and is playable. I can run SA at the Highest settings on that PC w/ AA.

 

I was just wondering though, because this has happened before, when I take a turn after someone else has saved in one of the Armories, since I have the optional .ipl file in place, which has a tendancy for regular peds to spawn at the OTB and casino games, if the peds spawned after I loaded the save, would that mess up the game? I don't save in the Armories for that reason.

 

Also, good job on the PS2 Chain Game save. It works great on the Greatest Hits and Trilogy versions.

You are correct. If the peds spawn when you load and you don't save at an armory with the optional IPL in place then there should not be a problem. Actually, I never confirmed that there was a problem. Maybe I'll look into that again sometime.

 

I'm glad you enjoy the custom CG save for PS2. Maybe I'll look into updating the save with some of the new features introduced by rubregg, if he doesn't mind. Come to think of it, the links to those files are dead now.

 

 

We had a problem with this link. The save analysis is working, but clicking on a slot brings up a file not found error. I thought you might want to know.

The player uploaded the save again and didn't have the same problem (http://gtasnp.com/19492). However, we are experiencing frequent crashing problems this round so if there is something actually wrong with the save I'd like to know.

 

My host suddenly decided to move my hosting space to another one of their server farms yesterday morning for some unknown reason.

The email they sent me to notify me of the move is timestamped about the same time as that save upload, so he probably uploaded right when they moved my files.

 

So... It looks like there wasn't a problem with the Firefighter save. I didn't think so but wanted to check.

You're right, I haven't made any significant changes. I was also careful with respect to pool sizes, so for every vehicle/pickup I added I scraped another one.

Of course I don't mind. Just let me know when you're doing it and I'll send you the most recent CG code.

I am admittedly one of those "many of us".... Don't know why really, I just like to do a lot without saving. I once made a 100% save with 11 safehouse visits. But I guess you're right here OrionSR, we could indeed scrap that suggestion.

 

The only thing that comes to mind is the gym glitch. Isn't that caused by not eating regularly? Saving advances the game by 6 hours, so the more you save without eating regularly, the more likely we'll get the gym glitch?

Don't scrap it completely. Just for this round. I'm another who likes to do heaps without implementing a save to keep progression.

Yeah, i've heard that somewhere. Unfortunately, i am one that tends to save when there is a small amount of health lost off the end of the health bar. I'll try to stop that in future turns.

I, too, believe there is something wrong at my end. Although, i always think that rather than thinking you guys have done something wrong. I might uninstall/reinstall and see what happens.

I've been having a lot of trouble with mouse-not-working type situations. Any known resolutions to this?

And no, Orion, i tested 4 times. I can save and play fine with non-CG saves. It was just once after my first forfeit this round that it didn't seem to work. Reset my computer, then it worked alright.

Still getting the screen going black when i try to save, though.

 

I want to see if Stefan had mods installed.

When I took my second turn for the CG, I was doing Dirtbike Danger and I blew up the bike and my came crashed. Why did that happen? That was one of the most random things ever.

The suggestion of minimal saves is still valid, but varies due to situations. I'm not at home right now, but when I can play again I intend to save before each date because of the random chance of disabling the two-timing dates. I usually accomplish 3 to 5 tasks before saving. IIRC, Phreak would enforce a 1 save per turn rule. Anyway, the minimal saves suggestion would certainly discourage saving only to advance the clock, refill health, cancel a gang war, or clear a wanted level. I'd like to think we can all play at a higher standard.

rubregg, do we have export cars displayed at the original location and on the ship for auto-exports? Also, did we get the girlfriend cars in right: Denise[0], Michelle[1], Barbara[3], Helena[2], Katie[4], and Millie[5]?

 

I don't think anyone ever figured out what causes the gym glitch. We got as far as figuring out how to fix the glitch and stopped. "Eat right and get plenty of exercise" seems to be the best advice.

I'm so sorry that I completed a turn, I was honestly unaware that they would make any difference. They're only texture models anyway (I had to replace the .dff and .txd files) and I don't know if that makes much of a difference, so if it needs be you can cancel all the turns after my save if that's necessary, but I assure you that next time I complete a turn it won't be with any modded files. confused.gif

That's no problem at all. About all that saving thing, no one's really strict about this anymore anyway. The point directly following your quote has been added to the rules/suggestions a while back:

 

• Do not fail a storyline mission (...)

• Try to keep the safe house saves minimal. (...)

Since 4star features are becoming more and more prominent, we're being rather lenient toward the above two points. Save if you don't want to lose progress on a long or 4star turn. Failed side missions are ok if you're doing 4star stuff, esp. 4star racing. Just try to keep the number of saves and failed side missions/races within reasonable limits.

As expected, I am having problems loading a save. My V2 game does not work. I remember having this problem before and I thought I remembered someone saying something about moving V2 files into my V1 game or something. (I might of remembered wrong though.) So I moved main.scm and script.img into my V1 game folder, but the V1 game crashes after getting to the end of the loading bar. I must be doing something wrong. (Or I remembered wrong.) So, any help would be appreciated.

If you've moved the V2 script files to your V1 game, then obviously your V1 saves are going to crash. Only V2 savefiles (including the Chain Game save) will work. Do you have V1 or V2? Remember, if you've downgraded your V2 game, that does NOT make it V1. It's still V2. I suggest using rubregg's script switcher so you don't have to remember swapping the script files by yourself.

I have both V1 and V2. (Mainly for the chain game.) When I moved my V2 script files into V1 and attempted to load a V2 save, the game crashed after it finished loading. Anyway, I'll try that script switcher. Thanks.

An easy trick, that seems to work with V2 anyway, is if a save fails to load on your game, uploading it to the SnP Uploader and then re-downloading it from there seems to make the save work. I had to do this a few times on the Chain Game saves from the earlier rounds(before Samutz added the Auto-convert feature to the Uploader/downloader), as when I tried to load a save, it just started a new game, but using this trick, made the save load properly.

 

Also, are you replacing both your main.scm AND script files, both are needed to load a save of the opposite version. I too have both V1 and V2 scripts, V1 scripts do work on a V2 game, as I used the V1 scripts to test out V1 of Dem's Code Tools, as I have a natural V2 game. But since you need V2 scripts for the Chain Game anyway, it doesn't really make sense to switch to V1 scripts, in my opinion. Hope this helps.

 

Edit: 9/14/2009= This is a little off topic here, but since it is kind of related to the GTA IV Chain Game, and since this is the only Chain Game Lounge we have, I'll ask here. Where are your saves at for GTA IV? I have checked in the Documents folder as well as the Install directory, but cannot find the saves. Also, when playing the game, the game plays fine, but the mouse is slow responsive to your movements-is this a known glitch? I play IV on a laptop with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor(2.10GHZ), 3GB DDR 2 RAM, an Nvidia Geforce 8200M Video card with 1407MB VRAM, and Vista Home Premium SP1. Also, it won't let me download the GTA IV saves from the Chain Game topic over in the IV Forum. Any solutions? Well, after reading JAJ's post below, I went on my desktop, and used the Safari internet browser, and was able to download the GTA IV Chain Game file with no problem, so that just leaves me to believe that those downloads do not work with IE 7 or 8-only Safari or Firefox.-Thanks for the help on that part JAJ. That problem is taken care of, but the others still remain? any solutions to those, please?

 

On topic: I don't know if it's because of the Chain Game save or not, but every now and then, I find vehicles that are stuck in the road-litterly stuck in the road-with only half the car showing.-the car is sticking straight up out of the road. I have a screen shot of it, if it helps. (This is the SA Chain Game, btw.)

Aw, crap. It looks like vassily's turn disabled the Two-Timing dates so I guess I won't be collecting any more of their proofed cars this round. If my Two-Timing theory is correct we won't see any more jealous girlfriends for the rest of this round. However, if anyone does trigger a jealous girlfriend then please let me know. I'll have to run some more tests to see how that is possible.

I checked the file with our file checker & it didn't look like a trainer was used.

I did notice that the ammo for the weapon in slot #3 (assault rifle I think) increased from 20000 something (from the Los Sepulcros mission) to 40000 something (from the Reuniting the Families mission) - why do we need so much ammo? Some of the players like to see the clip count.

 

 

Collect ammo when possible, but please keep it below 10000 for weapons with clip count. Some players like to see the clip count which disappears when the ammo exceeds 9999 (an empty clip can be fatal during stuff like gang wars - seeing the clip count helps with fast reloading by switching weapons back and forth before the clip is empty).

Yeah, in the turn that i just had, i think i saw that the regular shotgun's ammo was above 10,000.

 

I know that it seems as though you should pick up a weapon when it is within easy reach, but in all honesty, we seriously do not need it. There is absolutely no way you are going to use ten thousand shots from a pump-action shotgun. It just isn't needed.

Get to about 2000 and just leave it.

That's the shotgun slot. Unlike the uzi or assault slots, it is not possible to switch to the weapon used in the ammu-nation challenge in order to avoid glitching more ammo without losing all the shotgun ammo. Either way it doesn't make much difference. More than enough shotgun ammo can easily be collected from an armory, and the clip count isn't as useful for shotguns. What I find confusing however, is why do people like to complete stages 1-3 of the ammu-nation challenge before the assault challenge is available. The player can whore a little game percentage but this is at the expense of whoever ends up completing the final challenge. That player must still complete each weapon just to get at the assault challenge.

 

I think vassily got snubbed by kamuran's Reuniting the Families. vassily called a turn and reported a crash (thank you), but didn't call a forfeit.

 

kamuran, please don't edit your posted completed turn. Double post if necessary, or post in the lounge. The time you see is not the time I see due to my local time zone.

 

I had a crash as well. Fortunately it happened while reloading my dating save. I'm still worried about this save. I doubt the use of modded vehicles made any difference. I don't see evidence of trainers or mods, but that doesn't mean they were not used. I've also noticed flickering of the cliffs while driving a boat up Palomino Creek (between Richmond and Flint), and cars driving above the ceiling of the small tunnel north of the Doherty PnS. I'm seeing more cars than usual making sudden J-turns due to spawning in backwards.

 

Load times for Los Sepulcros appears to be normal enough.

That's the shotgun slot.

I noticed that the shotgun had a lot of ammo. Has anyone ever discovered the glitch I found, In Reuniting the Families, the guy that tells you where Sweet is, is indestructible. I just kept shooting at his head over and over, then after about 2 minutes I got hitman on the shot gun.

Kamuran, stop editing your post, goddamn it. You've done it again to take out what was previously said about edit time. Just leave it now and dont do again.

 

Also, my 6 hour reset is clearly striked out because i was an hour too early. I edited it with the strike out literally straight after i posted it because i knew it was wrong.

 

The Ak-47 challenge becomes available when we access LV (Bone County) and Shotgun when we can get into SF (Flint County).

Well, not really, but I don't think we need to fix anything. Don't we have a rule on this issue? After that the post is fixed and I need to double post or post in the lounge if something really needs to be added or changed.

Um... I don't think assault opens until the LV properties are available for purchase, but I'm not sure. I don't care about when shotgun can be completed because I ignore this challenge until all levels can be completed.

 

@GC, yep, and that's why I chose the word "whore." It just seems cheap in my book.

Don't we have a rule on this issue? Okay, my standard is: I've got about 5 minutes after posting my completed turn to fix any mistakes or add things I forgot. After that the post is fixed and I need to double post or post in the lounge if something really needs to be added or changed.
Believe it or not, that must be the one thing we don't have a rule for. lol.gif What you've described sounds like a solid strategy though. May I add my 2 pennies' worth of common sense:
  • If you feel you absolutely must re-edit at some later point, make your edits traceable (don't delete but strike out old text, add new things under a "Edit" headline, that sort of thing).
  • Put the original Edit Time into the post. It's in your own interest, if you don't your turn could get cancelled for exceeding the 3-hour-time-limit.
  • Since this is an international site and players come from all over the planet, it might be a good idea to use UTC for all manually posted edit times.
Ammu Nation Challenge

I agree, it doesn't make sense to do this before all rounds are available. But still "mission strategy is up to the caller", so I don't see anything wrong with players doing half the mission early.

You seem to get a lot of crashes, and you mentioned something about conversion. Are you sure you're playing with the right scripts, i.e. v2 scripts? Like OrionSR has already said, you don't need to convert anything at all. All you need is the right set of script files. If your game is v2 you don't need to do anything. If your game is v1, you need to install v2 scripts to play the chain game - in this case you might want to check out the script switcher, a comfy tool for script juggling.

No, I'm playing with a laptop witch I have the mouse problem , so I have to pause alot to regain control of my mouse ,

Later yesterday night , I thought that SAMA was the problem because I was seeking of the oysters in LS!

It crashes on the pause menu so no problem on the game or the scripting ,

And since Mr OrionSR said that the scripts are automaticly converted , I ve stopped using SA V2 converter!

My PC:

2 GB RAM / a crappy GMA 965 With 256 Mb VRAM , Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHZ! ,

@!!GameCH33TA!!: Regarding your latest turn, I'd like to know a few things.

Apart from the downgrader patch, did you do anything else to your game or the save?

Were you playing with a downgraded game before this latest turn?

 

The only reason that I can come up with for the latest confusion is that you converted the save and used it with v1 scripts, perhaps accidentally? Is that so? If not, then I can't think of anything as to why the save would convert itself to v1, all by itself.

 

I suggest you reinstall the game, DO NOT downgrade and try the same mission again. Post the completed save here in the Lounge (not in the CG topic) and then we can compare it with your CG save and verify if the downgrader had anything to do with it.

Although, I'm pretty certain that the downgrader does not affect savegames.
