ryuclan
I was reading the review for Halo 3 (what I expected) and this article popped up. Bungie and Microsoft to Split? (X360)Rumors have been spreading about a possible split between Bungie and Microsoft. By GameSpy Staff | Oct. 2, 2007 A recent blog post on the Seattle Post Intelligencer website apparently reveals that a big shakeup is coming from Bungie and Microsoft. According to the blog entry, the two companies will be parting ways, albeit under agreeable terms that will not keep Bungie from working on future Halo titles for Microsoft. The unedited email sent by the Bungie insider is as follows: So heres my big secret. You should google Bungie + Microsoft + separation this week. You know that big ol BILLION dollar franchise Bungie has created for Microsoft, to show their appreciate Microsoft is letting Bungie leave. Of course Microsoft gets to keep all rights to the Halo franchise, but as today Bungie no longer part of Microsoft. Ask anyone who works there to search the global address book, they're no longer in there. Microsoft was supposed to release the press release today but if they wait till the 10/6 the impact wont effect the quarterly results. However today is the actual official date and the day the NDAs expire, however you still didn't hear this from me. Apparently MS just wants Bungie to make Halo for the rest of their natural days, and Bungie doesn't like how MS is constantly trying to "handle" everything they do; the way they market their games, the way they interact with their fans (basically the fact that they do appreciate their fans), and how stingie they are with the profits (comparable to the rest of the industry). So as of today they are their own independent entity. They'll probably make Halo 4 for Microsoft, however hey are also free to create new intellectual properties for whatever system they want. (Even though they prefer the xbox platform) We approached Microsoft for comment, and received this official statement: "There's been no such announcement. We continue to celebrate the tremendous success of the global phenomenon that is Halo 3." We expect to hear more about the relationship between Microsoft and Bungie in the near future, one way or the other. Some may say that this nothing, but if this is really happening then I think M$ could lose a s***load of money. Although Halo is licensed to M$ I dont even know how many more are coming up . How do you guys feel? Also "There's been no such announcement. We continue to celebrate the tremendous success of the global phenomenon that is Halo 3." Why are they beating around the bush, nothing like this was asked.

ryuclan
Well if you think about it, its not really too out of the question. A lot of game developers dont like the way publishers try to take over a project, and I'm pretty sure Bungie doesnt want to make Halo for the rest of their lives lol. But also this is a rumor so who knows

beanmachine43
I'd just like to see them work on something besides Halo, on 360 or not. Besides the Myth games (and Halo obviously), I can't think of anything noteworthy Bungie has made.

Besides the Myth games (and Halo obviously), I can't think of anything noteworthy Bungie has made. Exactly and thats more of a reason why I think this may be true. I'm pretty sure Bungie is tired of that game (although it is extremely successful) and they feel they have to prove themselves by making something new. Microsoft letting Bungie go would be a good way to see if they are really a legitimate developer or if they are just one-trick ponies

Glycerine
In an issue of GameInformer they had this to say: Our source stated that Bungie is tired of making Halo, and didn't want to do future Halo games. For an unstated, but significant amount of money, Bungie shareholders bought the studio name back from Microsoft. Our source also revealed that even though Microsoft will retain the rights to Halo, Microsoft also has the right of first refusal on future games This means that Microsoft has the first shot at publishing Bungie's future titles. How this will come into play if Bungie decides they want future game X to appear on the PlayStation 3 and Wii alongside an Xbox 360 release will make things quite interesting. If M$ indeed has lost Bungie and if they stop making Halo games in my mind M$ is f*cked.

DexX
If M$ indeed has lost Bungie and if they stop making Halo games in my mind M$ is f*cked. uh, why? There are plenty of other decent franchises available on the 360. infact personally speaking, i have never popped a halo game into my xbox (either of them) nor do i ever intend to. Infact i hope the rumor is true, just so i can see what else Bungie is capable of on modern hardware.

Starion
No-one wants another Halo. Anything more than a trilogy is a waste. Think of Scary Movie 4. mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno.
TheDude5000
No-one wants another Halo. Anything more than a trilogy is a waste. Think of Scary Movie 4. Well Halo 3 sold 2.5 mil at launch, and that's more than Halo 2 did which had a larger console install base. So uh, I think that's quite wrong. Do I want to see Halo 4? Hmm...well Halo Wars is coming out in '08, and there are tons of other fantastic 360 games coming out...if Bungie stuck with MS and made a new franchise I wouldn't mind. Halo or something new, as long as it's on 360 I'm a happy camper.
EmSixTeen
All they need is Project Gotham Racing and Forza. Well, Bizarre Creations have very recently left MGS and now have Activision as their publishers, so PGR4 is the last installment they'll be making.. E.A.B.
I don't see what the whole arguing is about I'm sure the 360 has more franchises to profit out of. Not being an asshole here, but as far as I can see, no other franchise gets as much exposure as Halo, so it would be a pretty big loss. But not defeat. I MEAN ITS NOT AS IF THE 360 ISNT LOSING SOMETHING IT ALREADY HAS A TON OF (SHOOTING GAMES) LOL BURN CITY Always gotta use caps.
Torcidas
I don't see them stopping the Halo series anytime soon. And that rumor seems to look like a big bag of bullsh*t. I'll admit, I partially did purchase my 360 for Halo 3 (and GTA:IV), so I wouldn't mind a fourth installment. But sooner or later, people are gonna come to their senses and think, "why am I playing the same kinda sh*t over and over again?"
topdogkiller
on 1up.cm microsoft declared it official. But it's not like they had major probles. Just they feel they want to expand themselves. But MS still owns the halo franchise and bungie will be apart of the other acts alike halo wars.
