Ryunday
Big thanks to Jackoozy for the graphic. Well Writers Discussion is not just a place for forumers to post there writing, its also a place to discuss literature, however Writers Discussion has been dominated by stories. And if we made numerous topics dedicated to different areas of literature eventually these topics would just be drained of activity and it would not be worth keeping. So I have decided to make this topic to discuss literature in general. Use this topic to discuss literature. This means published books, author discussion, asking questions that don’t warrant there own topic and so on. Topic Rules This topic is for discussing books and other areas of literature. However this topic is NOT for discussing stories being posted in Writers Discussion (use the stories topic for that), ideas for stories, or informing people of updates of your stories. Please use these topics for this:Writer's Ideas Writer's Updates Do not use this topic to post about anything. Please don’t go off-topic.So with that being said have fun and get chatting Edited November 30, 2007 by Ryunday
Ryunday
Well I will try to get the conversation started. Has anyone heard of, or read any of Walter Mosley‘s work? I have only read a excerpt of his book Killing Johnny Fry in a magazine, and I really liked his work. So I was wondering has anyone else read any of his writing? And if so what is you opinion on it? TubbyJ
Never heard of him, but I checked out that link and those 'Easy Rawlins' books look interesting.
Ryunday
Yeah, I thought he’s style of writing in that the Killing Johnny Fry book would work good with a novel with a crime genre, which I think those books are. Ryunday
Sorry for the double post. Come on people lets try to keep this alive. Ok so I want to start really getting into writing a story I have in mind soon when I have some free time. So I was wondering dose anybody have some suggestions for books I could read for inspiration and research? The story I have in mind is set in Miami and I wanted to get some books also set in Miami which revolve around organized crime, preferable Latin organized crime syndicates. Any suggestions? Read Killing Pablo. It's not set in Miami but you will be help immensely by this spectacular tale of a crime kingpin on a path of destruction. Also, has anyone read Heart-Shaped Box? Pat
Bit of a bump. Just picked up a copy of Micheal Crichton's State Of Fear yesterday. It's pretty good, it was a little bland at first, but after the first scientist-type person dies, I immediately picked up interest. Right now, I'm on page 33, when they're half-way through the Akamai Tree Digital Network Solutions meeting. Finished reading Cujo about three days ago. I'm a huge Stephen King fan, so my opinion is obviously biased, but I thought it was great. Contrary to popular belief, it's more than just the woman and the boy getting trapped by the rabid dog. Much more, in fact. Before Cujo, I picked up a copy of Stephen King's novella The Mist. Definitely a great read. I'll be catching the movie when it comes out for sure. Hayden Stasven
What irritates me, is this forum's title of 'Writer's Discussion'. I ask that it be changed to either, Composer's Discussion, or Literature Discussion.
