AZAZEL
'lo. I just purchased and downloaded a few of the DLCs from the official Oblivion website. I activated them like instructed, and they seemed to install fine, but when I click "Finish", the installer just locks up. None of the content is added to the game, and if I try to run the installer again, it freezes before even finishing loading the InstallShield files. I also tried not activating one of them, just clicked cancel. Same deali'o. Anyone familiar with this?
gillies
Try right clicking it and using "run as administrator". This stuff would have to take the cake for stupid copy protection and incredibly bad support. They still have a notice up saying 64-bit windows xp users will get fixed installers they can actually use sometime, it's been there since the game was released so I suppose the new installers are still nowhere to be seen. AZAZEL
Gah, apparently I don't remember my administrator password. Super. Not running 64-bit, btw. I have Shivering Isles installed, too, but that shouldn't make a difference, should it? EDIT: My active account is set to 'administrator', too. What's the difference between that and the one I can select when clicking 'run as administrator'? Edited October 1, 2007 by azazel.
gillies
I doubt shivering isles would make a difference. I had the same problems you are having even though I was just using 32-bit windows xp, but the run as administrator thing got them to work for some reason even though it was an admin level account I was using the rest of the time. Hum. Any way to reset your administrator password? As far as I recall I just left it as a blank, which worked last time I needed it, when I screwed up my login screen with a faulty theme. But this one won't accept a blank for a password.

AZAZEL
You're the best, mate. Worked a charm. Password reset, and DLCs installed. Owe you one.
gillies
Cool. If you need to reinstall the game or windows anytime you can copy the data files for the plugins out of the oblivion/data folder so you don't have to use these installers or activate them again, because if you reinstall windows the codes don't work for automatic activation after you use them a few times and you have to email them to get some codes for activating them manually. I think there should be a "dlc - plugin name.esp" for each plugin, and a file called ArchiveInvalidation.txt, or something like that, that you apparently need to keep as well. I think that is everything but I didn't have all the plugins, but if there is anything else it should be easy to work out which things belong to the plugins and which are the original game or shivering isles and so on based on the names.
