MissileDefender
Armed Assault is the sequel to Operation Flash Point, and is dubbed as the new "Americas Army" because of its realistic Combat Simulation. The detail in Arma is immense. Instead of single missions spanning a small area, Armed Assault has an island called "Sahrani" which is approximately 400 Sq. Kilometers big, and is free to roam(although since your mission will only take place on a certain part of the map you will be shot if you dessert your soldiers) almost like the city's in GTA. If you were to have the player to walk from one side of the island to the other, it would take 4 hours; which gives you an idea of the sheer size of this island. The Northernly part of the map being a Europeon Environment, and the South of the island being more Desert, North Africa like environment. Graphic Images from Gameplay below - Gore Factor Maximum Armed Assault included features such as: -Story driven singleplayer campaign -Large scale multiplayer -More than 30 weapons -Vast environment to explore -More than 30 modern vehicles -HDR Lighting effects -Real constellations and tides -Built-in mission editor Armies Envolved USMC - United States Marine Corps SLA - Sahrani Liberation Army RACS - Royal ???? Story line: "A small US Army contingent has been sent to the Atlantic island of Sahrani with the purpose of helping to train the army of the local pro-American monarchy. The Kingdom of South Sahrani, rich in natural resources, has always been at odds with its Northern neighbor, the Democratic Republic of Sahrani. In recent years however, the situation has settled into an uneasy yet peaceful coexistence. But the Democratic Republic of Sahrani sees the training of Southern troops by the US as a threat. When they learn that the US troops have finished their deployment and are in the process of shipping out, the North prepares to strike while a false sense of security still occupies the minds of their Southern neighbors. " - Extract taken from the Armed Assault Website. The Island as mentioned above is Aprox. 400 square miles big. Although you not roam this island during missions, you are completely free to roam the island in "Editor" mode. Where endless scenerios can be created. By using the editor you can create large scale battles involving 100's of solders, including tanks, armoured transport such as the "Stryker" and Air combat scenerios, including with the Harrier jump jet. Also, Helicopters such as the Famous UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter and the AH-1 Cobra.Patch 1.08 also brings the Americans the A-10 "Tankkiller" Here is a Youtube video showing detail of Armed Assault. The video is based on a Operation Restore Hope mission. ArmA also allows you to command your own squad, depending on your rank during the missions and in the editor. Different classes of soldier ranging from Rifleman to Medic, Anti-Tank, Sniper to Special Forces. 3rd Division Automatic Rifleman; Not included in the game, although available through a simple addon Dead Civilian Addon used to multiply the dust from collapsing buildings. SmellyJelly
Yep, I've been playing this since it was released on Sprocket. It's pretty fun, but it does feel a bit budgeted. The AI is bad, controls are a bit akward, and it's a bit of a performance hog. Also, from what I read, MP is swarming with hackers because there is little copy protection, locked servers seem to be fine though. The campaign sucks, but there are so many custom missions out that it doesn't matter. Still, it's very enjoyable if you like simulators. I suggest you guys try out the demo if it looks interesting. The environments looks great, the graphics are good, and the vehicles are fun. You can destroy practictally every building, trees, ect. Also, Arma comes with an ingame mission editor, which is really fun to mess around in. For those interested, there is a topic on the official BIS forums (the developer) where players post images: here Just so you know, ArmaII has been annouced. It looks fantastic so far, I might post more info if I can find it. MissileDefender, have you tried the expansion pack? It was just released and I heard it was great, although I'll probably wait until Christmas to get it. TFatseas
Aye ArmA looks quite good but my puny computer can't play, so I still play OPF. Yes I'm still of the last OFP Mohican's. With the right addons OFP can be just as good as Arma, just look at FFUR 2007. To bad Greek army mods don't exist for the game.
