Statutory Ray
NOFX isnt punk. Their just a suburban attempt at punk. For me, punk was at its best in the hardcore scene in the early 80's. Funny, because the hardcore scene in the early 80's was rooted in suburbia. Punk itself was never anything but suburbanite teens sick of the monotonous sh*t that comes with it. XN22
But HR changed to reggae. To me he is already dead. You're funny. Bad Brains was a hardcore and reggae band, they played both since the first album.
Bartleby
bands like fall out boy, sum 41, blink 182, and that sh*t call themselves "punk" but they're far from real punk. real punk rockers were anti-government, anarchists, etc. these guys like travis barker get their own tv shows and bentleys and sh*t. look at guys like g.g. allin. big difference. yeah. punk's dead. Oh, shut up your face, Gump. Go fail somewhere else. I think punk, like any other kind of music, can never really die. Right now it's just hard to find. You've got to know where to look. Bartleby
Only I can call him Gump. Hell, I probably invented the name. And the question mark. I also accuse chestnuts of being lazy.

Im Rick James B**ch!
@ Statutory Ray: A different suburbia, in a different time. My statement was more reflective of what is the modern perception of suburban life. @XN22: Cant say i have ever noticed that. And although i buy songs not albums, such tendencies would still be noticed. Edited September 30, 2007 by Im Rick James B**ch!
Dr. Benway
I think punk is dead because now we have a lot of stupid emo bands and cheap crap like Green Day, Blink 182, Sum 41, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical RomancE. They made a punk music as a trend for stupid MTV. I used to laugh a lot, when I saw Green Day interview, where they were saying, that their music is punk. I hope some day punk will become what it used to be. I love punk and my favourite bands are Sex Pistols and Bad Religion. There are also some other bands I like, but I'm so sick of listening to the people, who think they're punk because they wear logos ANARCHY on the T - shirts and listening to Green Day or other crap. That's just my opinion.

Damo.
uh...Marky Ramone wasn't even an original Ramone, he was a replacement for Tommy in '78. Yeah, I know, but he's as close as you could get to an original member now. Edited September 30, 2007 by Damo.
Moonshield
I love punk and my favourite bands are Sex Pistols and Bad Religion. Yeah...I don't think i need to make a comment here I was waiting for that statement as soon as I started reading his post. Like basically any genre, punk is definitely hard to define, and is as subjective as the music (or lack therof) that punk bands produce. There are always going to be idiots who amass for the genre's fanbase will treat is as a fashion statement (f*cking street punks) or a means to be "different" because their friends are doing it (the conforming non-conformist effect) than something more sincere by the genre's original purpose. Likewise, there's always going to be people out there trying to make money off of those morons, infecting the airwaves with watered-down, marketable, pop music being labeled as punk to make kids feel special. And even then, other times, that pop-punk is just f*cking fun.
Vinyl
Like most of you have said, punk in itself is hard to find. What we know as the original punk sound, even underground. i'd say is pretty much non existant by now. As for sub genres, D-Beat is definately alive. Only underground. at least of what i've seen.
