makeshyft
Ok, so Iron Maiden is coming out in February. This will be their first Australian tour since 1992 - when I was 11. It's called the Somewhere back in time tour, is using sets from the Powerslave tour of 1985 (I think), and the songs will be from the earlier albums. I honestly didn't think I would get a chance to see them and am pretty wrapped that I got tickets. I'm going to be counting down the months now, so to keep me excited I'd like to hear any personal experience any of you guys might have going to see one of their shows. What can I expect? I congrat you. Maiden put on one of the best shows I've ever seen and everyone should be able to see them. Especially those who have had to wait 15 years to see them. You are correct about the tour set and the songs from the earlier albums. I heard the shows in Melbourne sold out in 25 minutes and the show in Sydney in an hour. I've been following information about this tour even when the last album came out and been following the tour before dates weren't even announced. I can only hope they come here again. As for what you can expect you can expect awesomeness. For their ages those guys are still really active especially Bruce and Janick Gers. You can also expect a good double dose of Eddie. When I saw them last year on the A Matter of Life and Death tour Eddie came out of the top of the stage in a tank and then later during the encore as a giant soldier. It was fantastic and if it was fantastic with them just playing 5 old songs on that tour, theres no telling how awesome this one will be. makeshyft
Thanks for the info, dude! I'm going to the Brisbane show and judging by how fast the gold tickets sold, this one was a quick seller too. I've got a number of DVDs with live performances on, but I'm really looking forward to being able to take it in visually, feel the vibrations knock the air from my lungs and breathe in the acrid smell of pyrotechnics. Scarface187
There wasn't any pyro on the tour I went to but judging by the scale of the next tour this one will have a lot of sh*t. It also makes the hair on your arms stand up when you hear Bruce go "Scream for me [insert name of city]!!"

Rhoda
I was at Download Festival here in the UK earlier this year and they completely rocked the sh*t out of the whole of the main stage. We waited 45 minutes but it was damn worth it and they pulled a 2 and a half hour set out, though they were only originally billed half that. Expect fancy sets (we had a tank with Eddie hanging out of it) and... well I really can't sum it up, they were amazing. Just hang in there, wait, see them and be totally amazed. It also makes the hair on your arms stand up when you hear Bruce go "Scream for me [insert name of city]!!" Too right, mine stood up on my neck when he yelled for Donington to scream for him. Simply amazing.

Though it is pretty sweet knowing I got to hear some songs from the new album live that some people never got to like The Longest Day and Out of the Shadows. makeshyft
Although it would be cool to hear some of the newer songs, I'm not too stressed that I won't. My favourite album since Bruce came back would have to be Dance of Death with the other two pegged about equally. I enjoy listening to them, but they seem to lack a certain energy present in the earlier albums.

Dance of Death is a good album. I'd say its the second best new Maiden release with AMOLAD infront of it. It needed to grow on me thats all. Rainmaker, Journeyman, Dance of Death and Paschendale are all great tracks.

Scarface187
I'm willing to cripple someone to get Maiden to come to Rock in Rio. They did it once, they'll do it again. Probably on this tour definitely since The World Slavery Tour was the first tour they went on for that, and if the Rock in Rio DVD isn't proof enough that they should go back I don't know what is. makeshyft
Anywho back on topic, I hope they pull out this song, along with cyborg Eddie. Rest assured I will provide a complete setlist when it's all said and done. I have heard rumours around town that a heap of trendy kids wanted to go (not sure if they got tickets)... You know the kind: fringes, mascara, etc. I don't like to think what might happen to them.

Last year I was smart enough to read it cause if not I would of been very disappointed.

Sixdust
I saw them last October, it was epic. Fear of the dark made my hair stand up as well. (It wasn't hair gel) They rocked out and had several props, including Eddie popping out of a tank, a giant eddie army sergeant (robot or a guy on stills, cant remember) who high fived the blonde guitarist. Bruce also used giant spotlights to search the crowd for people, the stage was really well set up with sandbags, and other army stuff. Also a fan near the front was waving a sign that read "Play Classics" and Bruce grabbed it and ripped it in half. I will never forget that night. I still rock my tour shirt from A matter of life and death as much as possible and it is my favorite shirt. Have fun, and try to record some decent footage so you never forget. Scarface187
Holy sh*t, you were at that show? Awesome. I would of loved to grab the sign from that dude myself but in the end Bruce showed him whos the boss. I still rock my AMOLAD tour shirt a lot as well. It was a great show even without all the classics.
makeshyft
I just realised we won't be treated to Fear of the Dark. I'm a little bummed about that to be honest. All this talk prompted me to put the three newest albums in my car, and they're a lot better than I initially thought them to be. When it came out I pretty much wrote off Brave New World, but I have to admit I am enjoying it quite a lot. Maybe it's an age thing.

Scarface187
Haha, dude: If Mariner and Flight of Icarus are on the set I am more than happy. They've pretty much confirmed Mariner for the set. What with Bruce at the end of the Download set saying that when they came back they'd be singing songs about albatrosses and in an interview I read with Bruce he said Alexander the Great isn't going to be played cause there is only room for one epic which is Rime. Too bad though. I really wish they'd play Alexander live.
makeshyft
Could that mean Mariner is a possible closer? Finish on a high note and all that. Also, do you think the show may be broken up into two sets?

Also, do you think the show may be broken up into two sets? Maiden haven't done two sets yet and I don't think they'll start, and if they close with anything, its going to be Run to the Hills. Thats THE closer. I think at least. I hope at least that they play it this time around, its been hinted. They didn't play it last time.

I like the song, its just not one of my favorites and I think its an odd song to close the show with. Run to the Hills has always been the perfect song to close on I think. Well besides Running Free. EDIT - Japanese dates got announced. Its only a matter of time before they announce some here. Edited October 6, 2007 by Scarface187
