lazyshark
I meant crashes, not freezes • What platform: PC • Version Number: Edition 2 • Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs) • How much RAM: 2046MB RAM I don't know what kind • What video card: 256MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 XT • Which version of Windows: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) • Which DirectX version: 9.0 I think • What sound card: SB Audigy 2 Audio [CF00] • History: I updated all of my drivers, looked for the gta_sa data thing that everyone keeps talking about, and didn't find it. I bought the game today and installed it for the first time today. I tried to run it in windows 98 compatability, but I don't think it did anything. Right now it shows the first two screens, the EAX and the NVIDIA screens, and then the game closes right away and displays a "gta.exe has encountered a problem" message. I don't know what I can do right now, because I have already re installed the game 3 times.

lazyshark
I agree it is a pretty nice comp. for being over 3 years old. Anyways, I updated to windows media player 11 and set it as my default and it still crashed. here is the reference site that is supposed to help me, but this doesn't tell me anything, because it seems to be very vague. basically it tells me that the problem is a result of inadequate hardware, but that is clearly not the issue, unless I am mistaken. Bad~Boy#17
Try deleting the .set file Did you made a full-install ?
lazyshark
yea I already looked for the .set file on my computer and couldn't find it. this is probably because gta has never been fully run so it has not created one yet. also, I installed multiplayer san andreas and I got a white screen fading into another white screen and then crash. VCHolmes
• Update your Video drivers. • Delete the .set file (Search your computer for 'gta_sa.set') • Try running the game in Windows 98/2000/Xp compatibility modes. Also, please read the posting requirements : http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=264413 You may find it boring to read, it but will be of much help to you.
