lesfleanut
I'm not interested in pirated games, movies, or anything else for that matter. I'm interested in turning it into a media center. That's my disclaimer, to keep this topic from getting closed or moved to gaming chat. Here goes: I bought a softmodded xbox with a ton of extras for 50 bucks a few months ago, and my interest has recently been sparked in XBMC. My question for you is can I replace the HDD with a 500GB drive without a mod chip? I've already got evox running, is this all I need? Can I just open it up and plug in a large drive, or will I need a to buy a network storage unit? I don't feel like wading through all the ambiguous text on xbox modding sites, and would really like some first hand experience on this matter. Primer43
No first hand experience here, but from what I understand is that you need xbpartitioner and you need to reformat the hard drive in either 1 500gig partition with 32k clusters or 2 250gig partitions with 16k clusters. Either way it will work. I don't think you need a mod chip. Just google xbpartitioner.
_-playero-_
My suggestion is go to xbox-scene.com forums. Yes, you can add a 500GB drive. But it's not just plug and play. You have to format the drive in FATX and copy the contents of your current drive (or rebuild the xbox drive, that can be done with a lot of tools). Also, there is some lock in the bios or the eeprom IIRC. It's pretty much just get the tools, connect the 500gb drive to your computer, format and reconstruct the xbox drive, and put it in the xbox. Then again, I haven't done this in years, so go to http://forums.xbox-scene.com/ and ask away, you'll be surprised how simple this is.
