Sharing a hard drive on my network

I have a 320 GB hard drive currently connected to my desktop that I would like to share on my network. When I try accessing it on my laptop, it gives me the error "Not enough server storage to process this command". The fix for this problem is to raise your IRPStackSize value by 3 or so in the registry. Next, you restart. Upon restart, it still isn't working, and I've reached the maximum stack size of 50 on both my computers.

Is there something else going on here?

Here is the official Microsoft guide.

How is the drive connected?

Is it the drive Windows is on?

How are you sharing it?

How are you accessing it?

What Anti-virus do you have installed on each system?

I have the drive in a USB enclosure. It's a Tvix (a form of media player that features a hard drive, instead of the more popular network-based solution, kind of like Apple TV without the ridiculously bad format acceptance.) But, for importance, it's a normal USB enclosure that should allow you to share the drive (I did it a year ago!).

It's an external drive with nothing on it but media (MP3's, DVD's, Videos, etc.)

I right-click and click properties, click the sharing tab, it says "I understand the risks involved by sharing the root of a drive..." and I click it. I then click the checkbox next to "share this folder on the network" then click OK. It goes through the process of sharing the folders on the network, then it shows up on network places as "K on Desktop" (like it should). This is the same way you share any folder on Windows.

The drive is connected to my desktop (cleverly named on the Windows network as "desktop") and I'm accessing the drive on my wireless laptop (cleverly named "laptop").

Both PC's have AVG Free installed and running. They both have Zonealarm set to "trusted mode" which allows sharing.

I can share any folder I want to, but this darn hard drive won't share.

The drive works great if I'm on my desktop and I access it by my computer.

Also, I'm running XP Home on both computers.

P.S. sorry about the horrible lack of detail in my first post. I planned on editing it, but GTA forums was down, then I forgot about it.

Also, if I try and map the drive from either computer (any folder, click tools, map network drive), it gives me the error of not enough storage space.

Hey Fozzy,

The only thing I found while digging that differed from the fix you mentioned was this:

0153 » "Not enough server storage is available to process this command".

If you receive the subject or similar message, you may have a non-zero PagedPoolSize entry in the registry. Edit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

Set PagedPoolSize to 0.

Reboot.

Another possible cause of this error is if you installed a Service Pack before installing any networking components. If this is the case, re-apply the Service Pack (and any hotfixes).

Also, many places are mentioning Norton as the culprit. Does either computer have Norton in addition to AVG?

They are both set to 0 and the drive still isn't working.

I tried adding my 500 GB Mybook external hard drive to the network, and it results in the same error.

I have never installed Norton on either computer.

My computers both came with Service Pack 2 was installed both my computers with the Windows installation. (SP2 disk).
