Rhoda
Nice one, this means at the current rate I'm getting money I should be able to afford one when Gordon Brown steps down from Prime Minister. No, seriously, this is indeed good news. It's now the same price the PS2 was when it first came out. EDIT: No backwards compatibility or USB ports? Sounds strange to me, means I'll have to keep my PS2...
Seddo
EDIT: No backwards compatibility or USB ports? Sounds strange to me, means I'll have to keep my PS2... That's it, drop the price of the sh*t version.

Rhoda
Too right. At first it seemed like a good deed on Sony's part but I'm starting to wonder if there's such a thing.
TheDude5000
Eh, no backwards compatibility? Well that's what I have a PS2 for. But no USB ports...eh, that's not such a good idea. No good exclusive games either...meh still not interested in it.
Seddo
Yup, MS did the same thing with the crappy Xbox package. Well at least the Xbox 360 core console actualy had backwards compatibility aswell as USB ports.
SIP YEK NOD
you can tell by the "no usb ports" thing its bullsh*t. you need them to charge the controllers, and they are like a 20 cent piece. and this is the rumored $399 US ps3.
RIPER
I see a day that they bring a PS3 free with a pizza on your home, but price of games will be about 100$ at least

I'd wait for Sony to confirm it. They can't remove all the USB ports though, if it is true. The Playstation EYE and GH3 is gonna use them....so it wouldn't make sense to remove all of them... And the removal of B/C was started by Microsoft, I can't remember the name of the guy, because how is removing b/c going to make the system cheap because now it's based on software, not hardware. sainraja
Rumour? 40GB PS3 Confirmed Well, it was when I made my post. I did say we should wait for Sony to confirm it and they have. I also found out that the 80gb PS3 does not use full software emulation. It still has the graphics synthesizer chip from the PS2 in it which was removed from the 40GB PS3. MMFF
This is great news for people who do not have a PS3 yet. The loss of backwards compatability is no big deal.
sainraja
This is great news for people who do not have a PS3 yet. The loss of backwards compatability is no big deal. I think they shouldn't have removed backwards compatibility. It's still a good deal but would have been a lot better with B/C. Well it's not like they are going to get rid of the 80GB PS3. I know the 60GB PS3 in UK is going through the same thing the 60GB did over here in the U.S but maybe Sony is going to introduce the 80GB there. TheDude5000
This is great news for people who do not have a PS3 yet. The loss of backwards compatability is no big deal. No, it isn't...but no Dual Shock 3? The price drop doesn't really do much for me, it was always the mundane games that stopped me from buying one, not the price. I wouldn't spend $400, $500, or $600 to play lair, warhawk, or heavenly sword. I think I'll just save my money for Rock Band, Guitar Hero III, Call Of Duty 4, and Mass Effect. I'm trying to be as objective as I can, because last gen I had GC, PS2, and XBox, and I wanted to get all three this gen, but Sony just isn't delivering on the software front like they used to. Well, I am sure the price has a lot to do with it too. Lair sucks, but Warhawk is cool. Don't know about Heavenly Sword, not my kind of game. PS3 has some good exclusives out, and on the way. Plus Home is looking awesome. Home - Free Online Gaming - Free Future MMOs - Free At the moment, yeah game library lacks against 360, but free online play, games and services will help the wait. Now with a similar price with 360, the people who want a PS3 but can only afford a 360 will be able to get one. Slowly but surely Sony is voiding your arguments. Price - Fixed No Rumble - Fixed Online Service - Getting Better and Home will fix Game Library - In Progress No one can deny that Sony is making progress. sainraja
Heavenly Sword is a great game to have if you want to experience the story. If you just want to fight, kill, fight and kill you probably won't like it. The combat system is good though, that is not what I am saying. You've got to rent it at least.... VideoPoker
I have to admit, I was surprised the BC was cut out entirely. Right now it's kind of lame but in 6 months I doubt many people will miss it. I'm also surprised that they decided to keep in the Wi-Fi, I assumed it would've been one of the first things dropped. Lastly, only 2 USB ports is kind of lame, but I guess they have to make it "lesser" somehow. If they didn't leave something out it would've been a 60GB model with a 40GB hard drive. At least my brother will be able to pick a PS3 up a little sooner than he was expecting. Moonshield's less handsome join date brother <
TheDude5000
Dude5000 - I think you really try hard not to like the PS3 as a system...... Actually the oppositve. I know, doesn't seem that way with all the 360 vs. PS3 arguments I heatedly participate in, but I'm getting quite sick of this console war bullsh*t. The only real console I dislike/hate is the Wii, because I do feel the PS3 has the potential to be a fantastic console. I will admit the PS3 is getting more and more appealing with each announcement. I might even try to get one for Christmas if the price drop in the US is good enough. I mean I don't need BC, I have a PS2 for that. 2 USB ports is enough, that's still enough for me to use my PSP. I have seriously re-considered since my last post. This price drop might have been the final move to convince me it's time to end the war(well for me, at least), and just go PS360. Rob.
I recently packed away my 360 for a year so that I could clear up some desk space and get on with my work. But with this new price PS3, it sure, may be cheaper. But with the lack of games the console has, it still doesn't warrant the £300 price tag for me. I rarely play games that much anymore, I just keep in the industry loop of latest news and stuff to that effect. For me to buy a console, it has to have a combination of the following things; •Decent Price Tag •Good Library of Games •Good third party support •Games i'm interested in At the moment, it's close to getting 1 of 4 of those imo. It will be a great console, it just needs to snow-ball into something which it isn't at the moment. And that's going to take a long time I suspect. The 360 just had the advantage that it was "first". If the Ps3, was first to be released, it'd be vice versa at the moment.
