Deviant
Installed on Vista using e6850 and a nvidia 8800gts with the latest driver. Was working fine then I added a new vehicle and now the graphics are stuck on low. When I go to the Advanced Graphics Options screen the Visual FX Quality option is blank. The vehicle I installed works fine and I don't think this could affect the options screen. Anyone had this problem?
Girish
Delete the gta_sa.set file from GTA San Andreas User Files folder and run the game. If that doesn't help, try getting rid of the mod.
Deviant
Deleting gta_sa.set stopped the game running completely which is strange. So I decided to reinstall the game but now when I go to start San Andreas it minimizes to desktop and won't play.
Girish
Right click on gta_sa.exe > Shortcut > Run. Make sure that the game runs in 'Normal Window' and not 'Minimized'. If that still doesn't help, do a complete uninstall of the game. Delete all folders manually, if needed. Re-install the game and see if it runs properly. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work now if it worked fine earlier.
Deviant
After reinstalling again, this time using Add Remove Programs on Control Panel the game is working. At first when looking at the Advanced Graphic Options the Visual FX Quality option is there and can be changed. However while playing the game I actually noticed the graphic level lower all by itself, mainly by noticing CJ's shadow. When I go back into the Options the Visual FX Quality option is blank. This time there are no mods at all running. I'm thinking this is maybe a vista problem. I have also tried running the game in different compatability modes. Perhaps the 'gta_sa.set' or the GTA San Andreas User Files folder is read-only. Right Click on GTA San Andreas User Files > Properties > Attributes Make sure that 'Read Only' is completely unchecked. Then click on OK. Edited September 22, 2007 by VCHolmes
Deviant
Hmm tried unchecking Read Only but its checked when I right click it again. Have also tried reinstalling DirectX 9 and Graphic driver with no luck.

Deviant
Cannot change the attributes and yes I have administer rights. Now the game has stopped running again. It just minimizes to desktop and I have to go through Task Manager to exit Edited September 22, 2007 by Deviant
VCHolmes
Make sure that the check box is not filled with colour nor is it ticked.

Girish
Had you deleted the gta_sa.set file from the previous installation before re-installing the game?
Ring_of_Fire
This will get you a fully working game: 1. Uninstall game in "Programs and Features". 2. Delete "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\San Andreas" folder. 3. Empty recycle bin. 4. Reinstall game. 5. Install the v1.01 patch if you don't have v2.0 6. Delete [.set] file in "C:\Users\Public\Public Documents" and/or "C:\Users\Deviant\Documents". 7. Confirm if San Andreas is 4.68GB in size in "Program and Features". 8. Disable UAC and restart. 9. Set comaptibility of San Andreas to Windows 98/Me. Apply & OK 10. Right-click on executable and select "Run As Administrator". Do these steps carefully in the order given. I am assuming you have updated your graphics drivers. If you see this post: don't disappear on me, this thread, as well as anybody else...and please do what I say. Deviant
Yay working fine now with no graphics issues! Basically Ring_of_Fire's method sorted it for me. I also installed in safe mode but I probably didn't need to and I don't need to Run As Admistrator. So for anyone with Vista problems you need the v1.01 patch and then set the game compatability to Windows 98/Me. Finally you must delete the folder C:\Users\You\Documents/GTA San Andreas User Files. Thanks guys Edited September 24, 2007 by Deviant
