That's awesome, too bad the finals are in Quebec though. Did you score any tickets?

Yeah I love how 80% of the games are in Halifax but Quebec gets the medal games. angry.gif

Nah, I didn't score any tickets. I'm just as content to stay home and watch the games on TSN.

but seriously, the pittsburgh series will be rough because unless you like the flyers, you hate the flyers.

and bettman has forcefed the penguins to everyone because crosby has been marketed as the next gretzky.

let's just remember pittsburgh, you team was in danger of being sold to kansas city because you had a few losing seasons. and once they start winning everyone rallies behind the team. that's called "bandwagoning".

Wow, I completely forgot about that selling Pittsburgh business. It wasn't that long ago either. Only a season or two.

Well...it wasn't just the losing seasons. Our town was in a huge financial debt, their arena (originally meant to be an opera house) is about 40 years old and needs to be replaced and the team isn't owned by the wealthiest people to own professional hockey teams. It was a giant financial problem. Thankfully, the town (yes towns have to pay to have the professional teams stay there) decided to sign a lease that kept the Penguins in the town till 2040 and a 320million dollar+ bond was given to build a new arena. It was a giant sh*tfest that was topped off by a few losing seasons. It wasn't just because we sucked that we almost lost the team.

Anyways, I know Crosby is a huge star in our area, but I didn't think they were marketing him off as if he were the next greatest thing in hockey. Its pretty funny how he is this huge icon and the captain of the team but is being out shined and out played by alot of the other players on the team. Not that its a bad thing, its just that for all the hype around Crosby we still have quite a few other good guys in the background holding the team together. Thank god Crosby isn't some smug-ass, camera hogging, party animal. Lemieux has played foster parent/babysitter/teacher pretty well with this kid.

EDIT: You are also right about the bandwagoning...to an extent. A lot of new generation fans, being between 15-22 or so years old, were not really old enough or even born yet to remember the Cup days of the Penguins. They have only really seen the team as many do the Pittsburgh Pirates...a .500 team who is fun to watch once a year. They were never like the Football Season and Steelers fan base around here. Hell, we have one of the strongest and craziest football fanbases around. Even in the local high schools sports are cut to finance football teams. We are just a football area. Having a winning team that isn't football is odd for us, especially the naive people around my age because, like I said, they have never seen any other team win big games.

The only people that you are going to find being huge fans of the Penguins are the 25 years old and up crowd or kids whos parents are fans of the Penguins. Now with the sudden perk of a good Hockey team people are going, "Hey, now we got something to tie us over till Football Season starts that doesnt involve a losing team."

If you really want to, come to Pittsburgh and stay at my place for a few days, you can go and shoot all the dumbass teenagers who jump on the bandwagon. Just bring a big gun and lots of ammo.

Nah I couldn't do that cause if the Flyers lose then I would NEVER hear the end of it.

No way. I can tolerate shootouts in regular season because they end the game faster and less tiresome, so the teams could go on and get ready for their next game against other teams. But in the post season, both teams play each other again, or get a break. So it's usually a level playing field in terms of the teams being rested up, and we get to see the game run it's course to an ultimate winner.

Yes, it all has to do with skill. I'm not suggesting that the Stars are some pee wee team that snuck one past a couple of NHLers. What I meant by lucky, is that the Sharks and the Ducks were the two best teams in the NHL coming down to the end of the season. And while the Stars brought their "A game" to the playoffs, the competing teams just didn't.

i just started playing nhl08 online and what the sh*t, are the penguins the e-z button? i've played like 8 games and 5 have been against the penguins.

although, a good team with a sh*tty person can't beat pure unadulterated skill and talent (me!?). i've noticed people are very predictable with what they're going to do.
