Class act by Ottawa to sign Daniel Alfredsson to a one day contract to allow him to retire as an Ottawa Senator. The end of an era in Ottawa and in the NHL. I wouldn't be surprised if once Bryan Murray retires/passes away from him cancer we see Alfie take over as Ottawa's new GM.

I was listening to the radio and I heard that Jean was making more money than NHL'ers in the minor league.

Then Montreal bought out the entire league to acquire Jean and basically give him the same contract he would get while with the preceders.

There is a picture going around with Guy LaFleur kneeling before the casket of Jean Beliveau. It's just heartbreaking.

That's weak. A professional sports franchise shouldn't be so intimidated by disgruntled fans that they run to the police over jerseys being thrown onto the ice, which will most likely be bought again, putting a couple hundred more dollars into their hands, on top of the price of the tickets.

It's petty, and a major professional sports franchise should act better.

Pretty uneventful trade deadline. Nothing too surprising.

Montreal had two needs going in; a top 4 d-man and a top 6 right winger. Picked up Jeff Petry from Edmonton to fill the need for a top 4 d-man but that was it aside from a couple of depth moves on the fourth line. A bit disappointed Montreal couldn't get a top 6 right winger but there wasn't really much available anyway.

So the Pens so far have gotten Ian Cole for Bortuzzo and Ben Lovejoy for Simon Depres. I don't like either trade BTW, we need big defense and Bortuzzo supplied that. And Simon was probably one of our smartest players.

Why couldn't we get rid of Beau Bennett?

they're saying the ducks won the trade deadline frenzy.

I like what they got. I like what they gave up, too, but I think this is for the better.

A bit disappointed that we traded away Jiri Sekac to you guys for DSP. He showed flashes of some really potential in Montreal but just wasn't able to consistently find his game on the North American ice. A shame management gave up on him so quickly but hope he works out for you guys.

The circus in Toronto continues. Dion Phaneuf, wife Elisha Cuthbert and Joffrey Lupul have all filed a lawsuit against a Twitter user for creating the Tweet and TSN for broadcasting the tweet during their all day trade deadline coverage.

Sekac in his two games with the Ducks, has been looking pretty good. Him and Kesler have an instant chemistry apparently. DSP still hasn't found his groove, but when he's playing well, he is hitting hard, and a fairly good defensive forward. He's built like a refridgerator so it's fun to see him blow through someone like a cannonball.

As for the TSN tweet fiasco, it was a sh*tty thing to do putting that up on TV. What kind of a cheeky c*nt thought it was funny? I'm all for humor, and taking the piss out of someone, but there's a time and place for that. That said, Loops is supposedly challenging people to fist fights on Instagram. Not cool, Loops.

Carey Price now becomes the 48th goalie in NHL history to win 40 games and now leads every goaltending category the NHL keeps track of!

I think at this point Price is a lock to win the Vezna and the Jennings and I would consider him a favorite for both the the Hart and Ted Lindsay as well. Sounds crazy, I know, but when you consider Montreal on average scores less than 2 goals per game and gives up nearly 30 shots per game, Price is what holds them in there has them atop the Eastern Conference and tied for the league lead. It would be even more phenomenal if Montreal made it to the Stanley Cup Final, won, and Price won the Conn Smythe. Would certainly be one of the most dominating performances in the modern NHL era if that were to happen.

Montreal has a good group who've got each other's backs, has depth, no injuries, and Price is playing is playing the best hockey of his career and is the best goalie in the NHL right. Hoping for great things from this team in the playoffs!

I wish I was confident in the Ducks goalies. If they combined into one person, the athleticism of Gibson and the positioning of Andersen, it would be a great goalie. But Andersen is a bit slower than I'd like, and Gibson rebounds everything thrown at him.

Even though I'm a Bruins fan, I must admit that Carey Price has been unreal for you guys this year. Easily the best goalie in the league.

I read something on Twitter about him staying 2 hours after every All-Star game and skills competition he's been to just to socialize, take photos, sign autographs, etc. He's really one of the classiest players in the show, putting fans first. Seeing this from players makes me love the game so much more.

BTW, watching the NHL network right now and I love the segment they do with embellishments and dives XD There's definitely some good ones in there, like where one of the Habs (or Sens) players was trying to draw slashing penalty by grabbing his hand, then he skates into his own teammate, leading to a goal against.

Still not nearly as much as Football, Soccer, or Basketball, though.

I want to hockey to stay in my life forever.

Carey Price now holds the record for most wins by a goaltender in Montreal Canadiens franchise history, breaking the record of 42 wins set by Ken Dryden and Jacques Plante with his 43rd win on the season against Detroit tonight!

Looks like the Western Conference is basically set in stone at this point. The Eastern Conference though is an absolute clusterf*ck. Ottawa, Boston and Pittsburgh all vying for the two remaining playoff spots.

I'm a Montreal fan but I'm so happy to see Winnipeg make it and I'm cheering for them in the west. Their fans are passionate the deserve to see some playoff hockey after all these years. All they did last night as secure a playoff spot but they actually had to shut down part of downtown Winnipeg because there were so many Jets fans out in the street celebrating. The MTS Center gets so loud some times that you can't even hear the Jets goal horn, but come this time next week, the MTS is going to on a whole 'nother level.

Nice to see Calgary make it too when most people expected them to be playing for draft lottery positioning. Same as Ottawa. Hard to believe that a year ago, Montreal was the only team in the playoffs and now this year we've got Montreal and Ottawa in the East and Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver in the West. Great to see so many Canadian teams in!

Playoff matchups are set!

Eastern Conference

Ottawa (WC1) vs Montreal (A1)

Detroit (A3) vs Tampa Bay (A2)

Pittsburgh (WC2) vs New York Rangers (M1)

New York Islanders (M3) vs Washington (M2)

Western Conference

Minnesota (WC1) vs St. Louis (C1)

Chicago (C3) vs Nashville (C2)

Winnipeg (WC2) vs Anaheim (P1)

Calgary (P3) vs Vancouver (P2)

My predictions

Montreal over Ottawa in 6

Tampa over Detroit in 5

New York Rangers over Pittsburgh in 4

New York Islands over Washington in 7

St. Louis over Minnesota in 5

Chicago over Nashville in 7

Winnipeg over Anaheim in 6

Vancouver over Calgary in 6

whats_a_username?

Well, since the Maple Leafs didn't make it, I want the Ducks or Wild to win. My dad is a Sens fan, so I'll be rooting for them to come out of the east.

As for my predictions

Ottawa over Montreal in 7

Detroit over Tampa in 6

New York Rangers over Pittsburgh in 6

Washington over Islanders in 6

St. Louis over Minnesota in 6. I want the Wild to win this series, but I think the Blues are too strong.

Nashville over Chicago in 6

Anaheim over Winnipeg in 5

Vancouver over Calgary in 5

Subban should have been suspended. Dirty bitch. He should be out as long as the Sens player that he injured is out.

He slashed him for no f*cking reason. The guy was just passing by him.

I hope the Sens retaliate big time. Go hard to the head on one of the Habs best players. Put him out for a couple of months at least. I would personally cause injury to Price. Swing the stick at his head.

Subban deserved to be penalized for it, but there was nothing dirty about it. Playoff hockey is intense and players are always doing things to one another to try and get under their skin for an advantage. The only reason such a big deal became of this is because Stone was rolling around on the ice acting Subban chopped his arm off. I'm sure it hurt, but it couldn't have hurt too bad since he came back to the game a whole three minutes later and was involved in a punch throwing scrum at the end of the game. In the 2013 playoffs, Boston Bruins forward Gregory Campbell blocked a slap shot which ended up breaking his leg. Instead of rolling around on the ice acting like he was dying, he got up and continued to help with the penalty kill and did so for over a minute before finally limping off the ice (

). Stone needs to man the f*ck up and become a real hockey player. Even though it was a "fracture", a micro fracture is nothing and you or I could just as easily get one and not even notice it doing daily things.

I`m happy PK got that howitzer of a goal last night.

It was a hell of a shot to say the least (

). Glad he got it so the haters can hate even more. Love this picture of Hammond's reaction as the puck is going by him.

Note to Jets: the Ducks don't lose close games.

Actually, they've lost a close game once. Once.

Probably shouldn't have had Washington in 5 games. That series is not going well for me, but the rest are. If I wanna make some money I'm gonna need the pens to lose the series somehow but they will probably win tonight.

Montreal's killing it though, hehe

St. Louis over Minnesota in 6. I want the Wild to win this series, but I think the Blues are too strong.

dude I hope you're right...

I've been watching the Blues go to the postseason for like 25 years and falling flat every single time. St Louis are like the Chicago Cubs of the NHL. I might die before they ever win the Cup :pp

even in some of our best recent seasons (like when we've won the division) we usually find a way to lose the very first series.
