I was reading an article in my local newspapar the other day about how The Stanley Cup Finals should be made like the Superbowl. The idoit who wrote it suggested that instead of making the Cup Final a best of 7 series that it should be a winner take all match like the Superbowl. He was going on about some poll that said the main reason people don't watch the Stanley Cup Finals is becasue they take too long. He said that in order to get high TV ratings for the Cup Finals, and for the NHl to make more money, they should change the Cup Fianls from the best of 7 series to the winner take all metthod used in the Superbowl.

In my opinion, that is quite possibley the stupidest idea I have ever heard about hockey. The Stanley Cup Fianls have worked just fine for the last oh what, probably close to 100 years now. Why change it? I perfer the best of 7 series over wiinner take all simpley becasue it makes it more interesting. With the best 7, if a team has a bad night, they have another chance to turn it around. Winner take all doesn't provide that chance. Point being, if I could, I'd shoot the idoit who wrote that article. Stupid idea. anuj_cop.gif

Whats your guys opinion on the subject?

That would be awful. People dont usually watch any "best of" series until it gets really close to the end so it feels like the Super Bowl. We're a nation of consumers and we need everything now. 7 games would not take that long especially in hockey. 7 football games would take over TWO MONTHS to do.. that'd be asinine.

Wings with a win tonight! 4 goal 2nd period!

Who should win the Hart Trophy (MVP) this year?

I was arguing with my friend today, who is a shameless Penguins bandwagoner, that Ovechkin should win it again. He insists that Malkin should. In my opinion, MVP should go to the player who is the most valuable to his team, and I don't think there's anyone who does more for his team than Ovechkin. Not to mention he's dominating in goals this year, and is only a few points behind Malkin in points total. But, I am a Capitals fan, so I definitely have some bias.

What does everyone else think?

Brodeur just became the winningest goalie of all time. I always liked Marty over Roy.

yeah grats to martin, im a NJD fan and never thought theyde be second this far through the season, i was expecting the sharks and red wings to be at the top 2 about this time.

I'm so excited for the the game on tonight. Toronto vs Montreal. It should be a good one.

Urrh. What do the Canadians need to do to win a game? Toronto beat them, 5-2 was the final.

I guess the only good news to come out of it was that they are still in the final playoff position in the East.

Losing to Toronto hasnt been such a big deal since they got Gerber in the pipes now.

Now if you lose to Toronto with Toskala in the pipes.. then you got some serious thinking to do. But didnt Montreal lose like 10 games in a row, fire and hire a new head coach? They are probably just having a hard time making the transition.

But damn.. Montreal losing to Toronto is still bad.

Not as bad as that one Phoenix goal tonight. How the hell do you get an empty net goal on a delayed penalty?

They fired Carbo a few weeks ago. They never bothered to get another head coach. They just brought in Bob Gainey (General Manager) and made him the head coach for the remainder of the season.

lol.gif How the f*ck is that even posible? The only way I can think of is if someone shot the puck and it hit someone else's skate and boucned in. Thats the only thing that come's to mind for that situation.

After circling inside the Canucks blue-line, Vancouver forward Daniel Sedin attempted to clear the puck but it deflected off Tikhonov. Canucks defenceman Shane O'Brien swiped at the puck and shot it down the ice into his own net.

"That's probably the easiest goal I'm ever going to get because I didn't even take the shot," said the 20-year-old Tikhonov.

OOPS.

Ah I see. See Montreal is like secretly my other favorite team, but I dont follow them that much.

Theyre a good team. They almost pulled in Kovalchuk and LeCavelier in the draft... they might over the summer.

sh*t is getting f*cking tense in the western conference. Every night the 7 and 8 spots are flipping and flopping. The Ducks won five in a row, and were in 7th place, they lost one game, and fell to 10th. Now they won two in a row, and are back to 7th.

You know, if the Ducks make the playoffs, I wouldn't mind seeing them play either the Wings or Sharks. Preferably the Sharks since that's a rivalry that needs some post season attention, but the Ducks/Wings post season rivalry is pretty good as well.

I just saw on Molsen That’s Hockey that Taylor Pyatt's fiancée was killed in a car accident in Jamaica. Sorta sad considering he was due to marry her this summer. There's this, then the Luc Bourdon tragedy from back in the fall. Not a very good year for the Canucks.

Article About It

I'm so ecstatic at the moment. Montreal moved up to 7'th in the Eastern. Only 2 points separate them from 4'th place. Hopefully they can continue playing good hockey. Man it'd be nice to see them win the cup.

Man it'd be nice to see them win the cup.

Montreal barely made it this year.

If they face Boston in the first series it'll serve them right.

They play their final game tonight against Pittsburgh. I'll definitely be watching it. I believe if I heard it correctly, if Montreal gets 1 point, they get the 7'th seat. If they get the 2 points, they get the 6'th seat from Pittsburgh.

But yeah, I'm not holding my breath for them to win the cup.

On the plus side, Mathew Schneider was back in the line-up for Montreal last night, and André Markov could potentially be back for the first round of the playoffs.

I am pretty happy right now. If you would have asked me a month ago if I would be happy about the outcome of the Ducks' season, I would have said, no.

STANLEY CUP FINALS

And it broke my heart to give that series (ANA vs. SJS) to the sharks.

Well everything is now set for the Quarter-Finals.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

#1 Boston Bruins vs. #8 Montreal Canadiens

#2 Washington Capitals vs. #7 New York Rangers

#3 New Jersey Devils vs. #6 Carolina Hurricanes

#4 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #5 Philadelphia Flyers

WESTERN CONFERENCE

#1 San Jose Sharks vs. #8 Anaheim Ducks

#2 Detroit Red Wings vs. #7 Columbus Blue Jackets

#3 Vancouver Canucks vs. #6 St. Louis Blues

#4 Chicago Blackhawks vs. #5 Calgary Flames

I would cast my predictions now but to be honest I really don't know. At this point with the way some of these teams have been playing, nothing would surprise me. May the best team Montreal Canadians win. tounge.gif

Just a prediction. tounge.gif

I'm really friggin' excited that the Ducks and Sharks are meeting in the first round. This is almost 16 years in the making. And it's the first time that two California teams have met in the playoffs since the Kings played the Oakland Seals in '69.

EDIT: revised (wishlist) predictions...

It might be homerism, but I think Anaheim will surprise people. Really I'm just happy they're playing San Jose in the first round. It would be awesome though, if New Jersey and Anaheim met in the finals.

I`v got bets going on all 8 series right now with a friend of mine. And my predictions(bets) are complete opposites of yours.

Columbus is going to destroy Osgoods sorry ass.

Washington will completely steam roll over New York.

Montreal will and Boston will be the most intense series of the playoffs for sure.

C'mon now. Even with Theodore's sorry ass there's no way we lose to the Rangers in the first round.

Saw the game last night and Theodore looks "shaky".

He better improve or the Caps will be on the golf course soon.
