I'm going to be at the game tonight, I'll try to post pics.

Kevin goes all splintercell like on ajjg123 and stabs him in the liver and

...oh look...Penguin Game tickets just lying on the ground...

Anyways, I am going to the game tonight...I will be taking pictures wink.gif

Go Pens.

darthYENIK

If the Pens can tie the game right now (2-1 in the 3rd), that would be awesome.

Ouch.

I watched the until the end of the 2nd last night in the Penguins vs Detroit match and I have to say, I loved it, made me fall in love with another American/Canadian Sport just like the Superbowl did a few months back.

Anyway, at half time I had to switch the T.V. off seeing as it was about 3 am over here in the land of tea and cakes. But I have a few questions and I thought here would be the best place to ask seeing as you are the forum Hockey experts smile.gif . Basically, I wanted to know, why are there at least 4 games played in a Stanley Cup final? I know this one is having a 5th game but I was wondering why it isn't just decided at a neutral venue over the course of one match?

Another question is that in an interveiw with McCarty one of the British Commentators asked him if we would see the Grind line (?) back together. He responded saying that the other 2 players (who's names I have forgotten) were playing in different lines, and I was wondering what these different lines were for over the course of a hockey match because I never really noticed the players change apart from when one was off for a penalty?

Sorry for my NHL noobishness, blush.gif

the finals are played in a best of seven series. so one team needs to win four games.

and if i understand the next part, the team has lines (generally three lines and a checking line which holds the enforcer type players). most likely during games if the coach notices one line isn't working he'll start mixing things up to see if different pairings will work.

oh, and as a flyers fan, i am enjoying the sh*t out of these stanley cup finals so far.

I'll try and explain it a little better.

The rounds in the Stanley Cup playoffs are played in a best of seven series. The first team to win 4 games moves on to the next round becasue at the point when a team has won 4 of the 7 games it would be imposible for the other team to beat them, so hense the 4 needed to win the match up.

As for the lines, the coachs make lines for different reasons. One line could be a powerplay line with player who are good on the power play, another could be for the penelty kill. A defensive line, a offensive line, ect...

Basically the lines are player who are good in those areas.

Well, we still have a grip on the lead and its the end of the 2nd. I don't see us winning the cup, but damnt, I am hoping and preying we do.

If the penguins do pull this off, it will go down as one of the best series underdog-combacks in Stanley Cup history.

That would be cool.

darthYENIK

Doesn't look as good for them in the third as it did in the second.

The Pens look beat. Sydney looks like he's going all out.

EDIT: Holy sh*t, Maxime Talbot.

The Pens aren't getting into the offensive zone very well, and the Wings are all over the puck, no matter where it is.

Attorney General

This is starting to piss me off. Not because the Pens havent won yet, but because this is a great game for a 3 games to 3 games series winning 7th game triple overtime.

Its like a poorly timed great game.

Haha. I see where you're coming from, kev. But it was still a solid game. I missed a good chunk of it while I was at work, but I caught the 3 OT periods.

Seemed like Detroit had the Pens on their heels for a while, but when an opportunity presented itself, Sykora jumped on it. Gutsy move on Gonchar's part to suck it up get back on the ice for that final shift. Also, major props to Fluery. He was brilliant in OT.

kevin2006rhs

Now all we have to do is play the next two games like we did in this games OTs...that would be f*cking ace. I still hold hope for my underdogs. My dad said if it goes to game 7 we are gonna go see it...he can get the tickets from work but we arnt sure if we will fly or drive. He has a Chevy Uplander, it would be comfy as hell if we split the 7 hour drive.

I hope we make it to 7...I love roadtrips.

EDIT: Hey AG, do you get 105.9 WXDX out where you are? I know people love to mute their TV and use him as an announcer similar to the way people do when the Steelers played and they wanted to listen to Myron Kope on 102.5 WDVE.

Thanks for clearing my questions up lads. smile.gif

Again, I watched in to the 3rd Last night, until after Datsyuk scored to make it 2-2, then I fell asleep infron of the T.V. f*cking timezones. mad.gif

Anyway, was a great game what I saw last night, loads of action and very fast paced. Who are you going for as series MVP? I would say from what I've seen Fleury, Zetterburg or Datsyuk would be my choice.

darthYENIK

Now all we have to do is play the next two games like we did in this games OTs...

That's not the problem. The problem is the Red Wings.

And I'm sick of people saying Malkin is letting Pittsburgh down. Listen, that's what happens when you play a team with Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk on it. They're going to go after the superstars and shut them down. They aren't Selke trophy nominees for nothing. Hell, last night when the Wings were on their game, no one on the Pens could skate a puck into their offensive zone. They could barely get out of the neutral zone, without dumping. Crosby was the only one I saw, that was able to skate past the wings' forwards without trouble. It wasn't until overtime, when the Wings got tired, that the playing field was leveled.

The Penguins still have an uphill battle. And I doubt any team in the NHL could pull three wins in a row against Detroit.

darthYENIK

Looks like a done deal. Detroit is up 3-1 with about eight minutes left in the third, and the Wings are dominating defensively. If the Pens come back it'll be like the miracle on ice part II.
