Taste Of Chaos

Hey all,

I feel great!

About 3 weeks ago, i walked into my local chips game store and unexpectedly bagged me an original Tomb raider, mint condition, platinum for 5 quid biggrin.gif.

As one of the first ever playstation games i played and owned, i never actually completed it and in the end my disk broke sad.gif.

About 5 mins ago i finally completed this great game, i beat through all the stick my mates were giving me in playing such an old game and won it, im going to play through the entire series now as i will soon have EMA coming in and im so happy to have finally beat the game...i just want to continue biggrin.gif.

Also one of the best things about completing it was, i didnt use any help!, im not very good with games like this, if i cant see a way round things i usually panic and look it up on the net sad.gif. Times are changing tounge.gif.

Such a reminicent feeling, really takes me back to my childhood smile.gif.

Did/does anyone else have this game? did you complete it? did you get stuck at a certain point?

Also one last thing, in the credits at the end, it only had 5 names listed, is that all the people who made the game?!?! nervous.gif f*cking amazing if it was biggrin.gif:D. if anyone could clarify this for me i'd be very appreiciative biggrin.gif.

Please discuss, but keep it on topic tounge.gif.

God i hate it when my friends complain about me playing old games (if the games are over a year old they usualy complain lol).

I started playing Tomb Raider again about 2 weeks b4 Tomb Raider Anniversairy came out, but i didnt complete it, i got to Natlas Mines (level 13), i didnt play it much and then the new one came out.

I've completed it many times b4 though, that was the first full 3D game i ever played, back when my dad bought a Sega Saturn, i used to play it all the time, and so did my dad.

I used to get stuck on the 5th level (St Francis Folley) alot, some weird glitch stopped me from completing the level if: i inserted 1 or more keys into the locks at bottom of level, then saved the game and then died or turned off game, when i return it wouldnt let me complete the level when i have used all the keys, that used to piss me off when it happened, would have to start from begining.

I remember finding it quite hard back then, didnt quite know how the block system worked, but after a while i learnt how to get the furthest jump etc...

I never got help at completing it, back then we didnt have internet and i didnt buy mags so there was no way to find out.

I have had multiple versions of all the Tomb Raider games over the years, i originaly bought TR1 for Saturn, TR 2+TR3+TR5 for PC and TR4 for PS1, then after XP came out i couldnt get all the PC Tomb Raiders to work (except TR5), so i started buying them on PS1, but could never find TR2, then about a year ago i found 2 double packs for PC in Game: TR1+2 and TR3+4, So i bought them and Colin McRae Rally 3 (RIP) for just £10, now i have working copies of all Tomb Raiders on PC (although TR1 has messed up sounds), the only thing i dont have is all the expansion levels, i used to have TR1 Gold, and a demo of TR2 gold, but not for TR3.

I also have Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness for PS2 and PC (my friend game me PC version as he got if free with Sound card and didnt like it), Tomb raider Legend 4 PS2, and Tomb raider Anniversairy for PS2.

i went back in chips today and to my delight they had tomb raider 2, though i dont have the cash atm, this ones also a fiver and i hopefully should have it by the end of the week biggrin.gif.

something else which made me laugh, what we were saying about people complaining about playing old games, i went round my mates house a few weeks ago (one of the ones who were complaining) to find them playing worms armageddon! lmao.

we had a good few jokes through that lol.

I've recently picked up all of the PS1 Tomb Raiders - 1, 2, 3, Last Revelation and Chronicles. They cost me between £2 and £7 and they're all excellent in their own ways. Real nostalia! In fact, some of the graphics look really good, and the use of colour, level design and creativity puts many more recent games to shame. I feel that in the years since, things have not moved on very radically for most adventure games, and the swimming sections in the TRs especially put many modern games to shame. A great game is a great game, and the Tomb Raiders have aged well, and are still able to surprise with their invention and flair.

I'm not playing them through in order, though, I'm playing whichever I feel like at the time, and I'm finding it easy to follow all the different stories. With such great games as the best from the PS1 era costing so little, it's made me loathe to spend £45 on new Xbox 360 titles, so I'm only getting the very, very best such as Bioshock. I''m also revisiting some great backward compatible original Xbox games such as Call Of The Cthulhu, Halo, Max Payne 2 and Splinter Cell - all available for the equivalent of £5 each or less from GAME or Gamestation.

Locking the butler in the fridge in Tomb Raider 3 is a gem of a moment for me.

I liked the cutscene in the first game where Lara drove the bike of the cliff and landed on/near the boat.

me too, i always thought the game was all inside coz thats all i'd ever seen of it, and it was abit of a suprise seeing her do stuff like that.

one thing which made me laugh is lara's sarcasm at times, like in the last speech when natla says

"Evolution is in a rut...natural selection at an all time low. Shipping out fresh meat will incite territorial rages again, will strengthen us and advance us, even create new breeds. "and then lara replies with:" A kind of evolution on steriods then?

great stuff

GTA3Freak-2001

If you haven't already then go and get Tomb Raider Anniversary which is the original Tomb Raider in the latest TR game engine from Legends. Its not just a straight re-vision the levels have been re-made to suit today's standards so the game does feel slightly different to play.

But speaking of the originals, I've got Tomb Raider 2 Gold which is TR2 plus the expansion or addon in mint condition still. Sad thing is I never finished it so hey you may have inspired me to get it out and do just that!

I used to love Tomb Raider 3, just running around the mansion with the butler following you, shooting at him, and locking him in the attic or the fridge.

I had the original Tombraider laying around for a while, but didn't really play it. Then after a while (because I skipped Tombraider II) part III came out and I played through that.

That got me all interested about the original game, so I started to play through that as well. It was a great journey I must say.

I remember the times when I spend hours making naughty images off the Lara Croft screenshots in Paint. Ahh... good times. I think Lara Croft was the reason people started to release nude skins for games.

The supposed cheat fueled a lot of it I bet. wink.gif

I had a lot of fun playing these games, it was like playing a woman version of Indiana Jones. I'll always be an original trilogy fanboy; 'Chronicles' and 'Last Revelation' were w*nk... 'Legend' wasn't bad though, and I admit I still haven't played 'Anniversary'.
