I have a problem.

 

I got my 360 last week sometime, and earlier today I let my brothers play Rock Band. I go to plug in my mp3 player today, and the top USB in the front is broken and doesn't read it, yet the bottom works fine.

I'm thinking that maybe when one unplugged the guitar/drums that they pulled something needed out of the USB port? It's going to be a problem when I have friends over, but has this ever occured to anyone else?

(And yes, I do know about the USB in the back )

The 360 doesn't read my iPod when I plug it in, but the iPod itself "charges" as if it was plugged into something. I'm in the same boat as you. Maybe we're doing something wrong.

Does anyone know if there's any chance of getting the old xbox, or if retailers just carry the Falcon now?

All Xbox 360 Pros and Elites in stores now SHOULD be Falcons. Due to the massive shortage in January and part of February, just about every store cleaned out their stock completely (except maybe the Arcades). This means that any new 360s coming in should be fresh off the assembly line. Here's an easy way how to tell you have a Falcon:

 

* Take the box and look for the flap that will allow you to see the serial number of the console

* Open the flap and read what is inside the box

* What you're looking for is a "Lot #" of 741 or greater

* The lot number is usually printed separately but is also held within the serial number of the console

* Say for example the lot number is 1234567890987 (that should be the approximate length of the serial number)

* Then 909 would be your lot number; The lot number is always the 3 digits starting from the 5th-last number to the 3rd-last number in the console's serial number. I'll underline it to make my point more clear: 1234567890987; 909 is your lot number.

 

Anything above a 741 should be a falcon, but I would personally aim for anything above 745 to guarantee it...

Nope, it doesn't read my rock band guitar/drum set either on the top one, and when I plug them into the bottom one and plug something else into the top one, it doesn't read whatever is plugged into the bottom one. It's really weird.

 

Edit: Another problem, the power supply box is blinking orange when it's connected to the Xbox, and it won't turn on at all. When I unplug it from the xbox, it's just solid orange.

Yeah, I searched him up and he has the same offers for US and Canada. I'll keep an eye on this.

 

I also bought the Xbox VGA cable (to hook up to a computer monitor). It looks great so far. You can actually read small text contrary to my dog sh*t SD TV. My only problem is that I need a female to female 3.5mm coupler for the sound to work properly. I'm too lazy to run to Radioshack to pick one up, but I'll get around to it.

 

Also, is it me, or is the color a bit saturated on a monitor?

Before my old monitor broke, I had my 360 hooked up to it using the VGA cable and yeah, it does look a lot better than on a standard TV. It's great being able to hook it up to a sound system, too. But since buying my new TV (21" SD, nothing special), I haven't even thought about using my current monitor for use with my 360. It's a lot smaller than my TV and for that reason alone I opt not to use it. But not only that, using the advanced SCART lead with your standard TV vastly improves both the sound and picture quality. Microsoft don't include it with the different bundles for obvious reasons.

 

I'll use this opportunity to advise anyone playing a standard-def TV to fork out the small price for it. The most noticeable difference is that you can read everything. You can even play Dead Rising without squinting.

Yeah, looked on the Microsoft's support site and it appears something is wrong with my console due to the power supply blinking. I'm probably going to send it in tomorrow, and hope it's back right before IV's release or shortly after.

I find GoW pretty boring even in co-op. CoD4 definitely so long as you have Live.

Called support earlier and they told me I'd be getting my shipping box sometime in the next 3 days hopefully, and they told me to take any removable things off of my Xbox such as the HDD or the faceplate.

I got them two things off, but is there anything else I should take off?

Yeah, they told me to remove anything removable from the 360 such as the HDD or the faceplate, so I'd assume that it means the stock faceplate as well.

My 360 was D.O.A from the store. I bought it set it up, BAM 1 red light. HDD error. I followed the instruction on the MS Support page fixed right up. Hasnt come back except a 2-3 months ago, it came back but a quick reset fixed it!

I was going to have a good gaming session tomorrow aswell as it was my day off work, that's gone tits up .

 

I'll leave it switched off over night and then try the suggestions that were on the Microsoft support page tomorrow morning. Hopefully it is nothing to serious and the problem will fix easily.

lol it would be hilarious if you get the red rings when you turn it on to put in the GTA IV disc. I hope it doesn't happen to you though, but I'm sure its going to be happen to someone. The only trouble I've had so far is with the disc tray, sometimes it takes a while to pop open. Like today, it took me a minute trying to open it, I would press the eject button and would wiggle the chrome piece a bit until it came out.

I've just switched on my 360 now and there was no problems what so ever. So after a red flashing light and and a E seventy something error, nothing.

Hey guys.

Can anyone explain to me how the new 3 year extended warranty works?

I found the check from my 360 yesterday and it said I bought it on 8/10/2006. So its a year and 6 months old. So that means that my one year original warranty ran out. Do I have to phone XBOX support up and ask them for the 3 year warranty or what?

The whole warranty thing is basically in case my 360 dies on me just before GTAIV release.
