Xbox Live update May 26th - 2011.

 

Here you go:

 

* Reflashes the DVD drives : PLDS DG-16D4S, PBDS VAD6038 and PLDS DG-16D2S, to a new stock firmware : 0272, 04421C, 02510C.

* Table and anti-piracy 2.5 scheme updated.

* Support for the new XGD3 disk format for games, adds 1GB of usable disk space and extra anti-piracy features to new games (This may not be compatible with some older Xbox 360 SKUs, e.g. those with Lite-On drives circa 2009, which require a console replacement). [2]

* Adds a new 1 hour Auto-Off setting in addition to the 6 hour Auto-Off setting previously available.

* Adds PayPal support as a payment option for all Xbox Live users, except Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Hungary, India, Japan, Russia, Poland , South Africa, South Korea and Taiwan[3].

* Avatar Kinect. Allowing players to scan their face in real-time to match with their avatar.

* Adds multi-language voice commands for Kinect. (French and German confirmed.)

* Minor bugfix.

 

 

Also some people have been complaining that the new DVD drives or firmware has caused their console to not playing DVDs anymore. IF this happens apparently Microsoft will replace your console with a new 250Gb Slim.

My Xbox has been starting to act weird lately. It all started like a month ago when I put in Alan Wake, a game that I hadn't played in a while. The game started freezing and the next time I started the Xbox it couldn't read the disc. The same thing happened to a few of my other games, as well as LA Noire. I called Xbox support and they told me that it probably was something wrong with the disc reader. I'm a bit sceptical though since a large majority of my games still work. To be honest it's only four of them I have problem with. The strange thing is that all these games stopped working at the same time.

 

Since I'm not covered by warranty anymore it will cost me almost $200 to get it fixed. I want to be absolutely sure it's the Xbox that's the problem and not the games. What do you think?

I had my disc drive replaced after owning my 360 for two weeks, but it wouldn't read any discs at all. I guess it could be a different issue with the drive, but it seems odd that it's only some discs it won't read.

Try the discs in another xbox. It's likely to be your drive though, like they said.

You could tell Microsoft that it happened after the dashboard/firmware update and they will replace your console with a brand new 250GB Xbox 360 S.

When it starts to go it's very erratic but eventually it won't read any disks.

 

For a temporary fix try this:

 

 

 

...you tap the top of the console while it's reading. Give it a try with Alan Wake.

Well I got the update, and I'm getting a message, "Can't apply update" and a 24 digit error code. Suppose I'll have to wait til 9:00 when the phone lines open.

 

The only thing I can think of is the new drive I had fitted which wasn't by MS

That's probably it since they flashed the disc drives for the "new" format.

Fooking BS man. I'm fookin livid. This update has screwed me over. I just googled the error code and thousands of people are in the same boat as me. Our drives went and we got new ones fitted. It's not our fault MS can't make a decent machine, and then give the fooking drive a TWO year warranty, and then charge extortionate amounts of money to have the fooker repaired when the warranty runs out.

I didn't have any problems with the updates. I've never had any problems with my Xbox's at all. I owned just one black box for years, and two different elites that I've never had any problems with. I guess I'm just lucky. I know some people who have bought about one every year or two. Don't understand it really.

 

Threw out $150 USD for the Kinect today. Happy with it so far. I've got just enough playing room for comfortable play before my couch would start to get in the way. I was worried I'd have to rearrange, luckily not. Adventure game is pretty fun, me and my girl got into it for a half hour or so. Getting other games for it next month. Tried a few demos of games I want, including Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout and my girl wants the Zumba fitness. I'll probably get some other fitness games for it as well.

I've contacted the guys who fitted my new drive, they're working on a 'spoof' that'll make it look like M$ fitted the new drive in. I can only play SP atm and there's virtually nothing on the dash - feels weird.

Same here. Well I have had my Xbox 360 Arcade (With a 60HDD) for 3 years and I have never had a problem with It expect from once where I turned my Xbox 360 on and I got one Red ring. Turned It off and turned It straight back on and It was perfect. That was about 2 years ago too.

It depended on what parts you had inside your 360, drives, GPUs etc. Some people with two 360s in the same house got the update on different days.

 

I'm not sure I really want to go down this route of further modding the console. Might pick up a 250GB slim from GAME and slap the points on my card

Well, I decided not to further modify my 360 and got a new one from GAME. Online price for a 250GB slim is £159, but when I got to the store they only had them with FIFA 11 for £169. Traded in FIFA for £15 and got the data transfer kit for £15

That would annoy me so much. I currently have the "6 hour inactivity" thing switched off, but 1 hour would piss me off. For example, you're on a game with no save function until you reach a certain point, and suddenly you have to go out...Minor thing, just felt like ranting.

 

Simple question, will my gamercard still update when my Live goes to Silver?
