Xbox Live is acting real sh*tty for me lately. Always seems to log me out when I put in a new game.

 

This is why I hate paying for Live and its bothersome issues, make it free damn it.

My Xbox sits on a metal shelf with all the wires cooped in the corner underneath a PS3. Runs like a charm, no problems, doesn't even get hot. 

Same with mine, only the cords are wrapped around one of the shelf's poles behind my PS2 (don't have a PS3).

 

My power supply is right beside my TV though. I should probably move it somewhere closer to the air vent under the shelf.

Yep...It kicks me out of every single game that i play, even says that my Castlevania: SoTN is a trial game...but for some reason I can play Robotron 2046 without being kicked off of live....Microsoft is f*ckin up again.

Funny little question: Anyone else act out their in-game deaths by making gurgling sounds or physically grabbing their throat or something and pretending their shot like they are in the game? I don't know. Maybe I saw Saving Private Ryan one too many times.

I beat the final Russia mission in COD 2 on veteran, while watching Seinfeld clips on youtube of course. Still a very solid game and addictive two years later. I wanna play through the first two Russia missions and unlock that Veteran achievement for the Winter war.

OK, I just bought an Elite, and I'm trying to get hooked up with XBOX live gold, but every time I go to "Test Xbox Live Connection"...I keep getting this message that an attempt to check my IP has failed. It also says that the Network Adapter is wired.

 

I've tried to enter the IP and the subnet mask manually, but the same "failed" IP message comes up.

 

For the record, all I'm using to connect is an ethernet cable that came ith the system and it's plugged into my modem. Any ideas?

You'll need DHCP running on your modem/router or you'll need shell access to it's OS to set the routing table. What make/model is it? Most DSL or Cable modems have built in routing, so you should be able to use the automatic settings on your 360 and have the modem assign an IP automatically.

I'd suggest not going for Assassin's Creed first, mainly because you'll have to sit through a boring cutscene whilst your anxious to play. Never played it, but Dead Rising sounds like a good choice.

Well, that's a telephony modem but it's supposed to support both VOIP and high speed data over DOCSIS. Make sure your cable company has your line provisioned for both. If so, the modem should be assigning IP and DNS info to it's ethernet port automatically via DHCP. It looks like this modem comes with a CAT5 straight through ethernet cable. You should try using this cable to connect to the 360. I suggest resetting all of the network settings on the 360 to auto and powering it off before attaching the cable. Then, use a pin to press the reset button on the modem (hold it in for a few seconds before releasing). Cable companies generally supply your connection credentials directly the the MAC address of the modem so you shouldn't have to worry about PPoE/A logins stored in the modem's memory when hitting the reset. After the modem has reset and all of the indicator lights are back on and showing a solid connection, attach the cable to the 360, start it up and try to connect. If this doesn't work, your best bet is to contact someone in upper level support (the first tier goons won't know anything) at your cable company, tell them what you want to do and have them walk you through it. They should be trained for this type of setup.

 

Another option is to pick up one of the supported routers on this list and use it to connect your 360 and or PC to the modem.
