Well, if you're on PSN, I didn't see ya online either. I saw DavidCG but he had his own online game goin' and I had nothing!

As far as getting a console online via PC, I tried that with Ethernet to the laptop on Wifi, where I figured it could gain the signal out, but I got nada

Seems it's not possible to just jump on a signal like I can with PS3 PSN. That system is superior for that reason, you always have Cat5/Ethernet connect as an option

I dropped my two XBoxes off for repair mere hours ago... The prognosis is good, says the doctor... Almost sounded like he'd have 'em fixed by tomorrow!! That would be very impressive, fingers crossed they both gain new lives!!!

Still needing to know if I can test a headset without a Gold account, and even Off Line? monocle.gif

I don't wanna brag but,A guy who use to work for microsoft has his own little game store and sells 360 cheap. You can buy an arcade for $150 bucks and he can extend the system warrantly to last for a long time. My friend so far has his since the launch date. You should come to miami and check him out.

Well, I bought a parts unit to fix one that came complete, without AC adapter and controller, down the street is a $150 Xbox as well, with the HDMI output. Very tempting but I need to get these two working then upgrade to an HDMI xb360

Really? That's strange because the guy i know stay's down the street to.

Is it me, or do game developers not give a sh*t anymore? I can't remember the last time I got a new Xbox game and played it non-stop, the same way I would have done a Ps2 or Pc Game. The only game I'm truly excited for is Modern Warfare 2, your thoughts?

Sorry for the double post, I think it was a connection problem.

Game length. Games are just too damn short now 'a days. Fallout 3 is the only game I've played in a while that was worth the price tag and served up many hours of gameplay.

Developers need to make their games longer, that's all. Did I write 'game' enough?

I think you're right - and I have no explanation for my double post. I think they've gotten lazy because they know that they'll sell now matter what. Especially now online play has become so big.

That's my biggest gripe. Now because of online play and DLC, developers feel they can skimp on the story and make it up with those extras. But for people who can't connect online, they're stuck with the short, basic, game. And they're left feeling unsatisfied.

I can't get XBL at mine, so I have to use it at my Gran's on weekends - the connection problems are that bad that most of the time it isn't even worth the struggle to get online. So what am I left with?

Anyone's live down?  For some reason it says "most features are unavailable but you can still contact friends..."  On the menu it only shows "My Xbox" and "Friends".

Well looking at my friends management tab on live.xbox.com, there are 4 people currently playing online.

Maybe it's just your box.

It was weird. It only lasted a little while maybe an hour at most (I didn't get the exact time, since I was playing Fallout and time ceases to exist when I play that game).

There's no use to having a headset unless you have a Gold XBL account. There's no application for the headset outside of communicating with friends via XBL chat. Which you need a Gold account to do.

Bottom line, unless you're getting a Gold account, don't worry about your sh*tty $20 headset.

as far as im aware you can still voice chat and message friends with an xbox live silver account the only two things you cant do is play online games with friends and DL certain pieces of timed DLC. So once you get your 360 back try it out. The only way you would be able to test the mic offline is find a solid state(DVD) demo copy of that tom clancys ENDWAR where you use the microphone to direct the action! then if it recieves your commands you can gather its working.

Well I wasn't sure about the voice chat business, I never really saw the point to chatting with friends unless you're playing online with them.

I've always made due with 56K, but for AOL charges, I hope to hell they make the leap to Broadband for everyone, it is basically the wave of the future.

We were talking about Home on PS3 and the chance to buy every damn thing there.... Yeah! They do allow you to redeem cards, which is how I would pre-pay for service at present. Points though, should be allowed in both services, other ways to get cash virtually.

I'm without power and now soon, my phone, and you'll recall it cost me nearly $400 to get my car back. This is not a great time to be in my shoes!

Just getting on top of bills takes away from job searching I feel.

Well, the legal hassle and all.

I am waiting to hear back on my Xbox status but expect good news so far, I'll report when I get details!

Why is Xbox.com "unavailable" so goddamn much? It's a joke.

That pisses me off so much, ever since they done the NXE update for xbox.com then they've f*cked the site up.

And does that motto speech bubble need to be so big?

Have any of you had problems with XBL tonight? You know you'll be online and playing a game and it will randomly cut you off and won't let you back on for a couple of seconds? Did it today while I was in a game of zombies on XBL. Also, while I'm at it. You know the default headsets you get with the xbox does anyone else think they are really really quiet when you are trying to hear someone on the other end? And are the wireless ones any better with volume because if it is, then I might invest in one.

Those wireless headsets, meh, worst thing I ever bought, glad I got a good, traditional one with my elite.

Xbox Live has been fine for me all of today. As for the headsets, I've never really had any problems other than when the person on the other end isn't talking into their mic properly.

Funny you should mention that because I was playing a game of RSV2 with Pat, and I could barely hear him at times, also he was lagging out a lot. But I assumed it was something to do with his connection.

I guess its just Pat then. Because everyone else I play with I can hear okay. It might just because he was playing with someone in the UK while he's all the way over the US because me and him lagged out at times on COD5 last night. I won't bother buying a new headset then until this one busts.

Yeah I can hear most people from the US on headsets pretty fine though.

My honest opinion is that I would prefer the standard headset over the wireless because the wireless isn't that comfortable coming from my experience with the PS3 wireless headset anyway, it makes my ear sore.

Yeah, what's up with that?

Like whole games off the dashboard? I mean you can just rent and download it and yeah.

You still need the disc anyway to play it right? To stop people stealing games.

What's it for then if you still need the disc? It's wasting memory then.

I just need info on this feature, is it for arcade games?

It allows for quicker loads and smoother gameplay, it's useful if you have a big HDD and have a game that lags a lot, other than that there isn't a hell of a lot of point to it.

You could've posted this in the 360 topic if you wanted to.

You still need the disc, yes. Mainly because not all of the game files are installed on the console's HDD, it only stores certain key files, and also as you said to stop people installing & then selling the game etc.

It's to allow faster loading times and better gameplay. It has a really noticeable effect with some games, and with other games it can actually make performance worse.

Oh wow really? At least there is some benefit to it. Or maybe not...

I'm currently searching for a list with games where its worth it. Old GTA:SA is already faster on the 360 anyway as well. Because the frame rate dropped greatly when there's fog, lots of fire and the fire hose from firetrucks.

If you seen one or something please post it.

EDIT: Hey this helped link But still lookin' for a list.

Also I think it stops your games from scraping, my GTA has a scrap around the whole disc, I borrowed a friends and downloaded it to my HD and now I can use my scraped GTA to play.

U R Awesome. cookie.gifcookie.gif for you!

I was about to be bothered to do Halo 3. But 10 seconds longer! AND wasting 6.3G.

Nothing there that I had. But I can play Lego Indiana Jones 5 seconds faster! F*ck Yes!

It can help prevent it, but it doesn't stop it. As I said, some files are still loaded from the disc, so there is still some work to be done by the disc. But yeah, I believe it can reduce the chances of the disc being scratched.

Bungie said backing the game up to the hard drive will slow down load times, as the game was optimized for loading from the disc.
