Blackadder.

I think it's also to do with rapid repeated cooling and heating which flexes it, so obviously the less hot it gets theoretically the less it will flex! smile.gif

so whats the new camera going to do without a set of buttons? are we still going to have to use the controller? Like the ps3 guy said there is only so many things you can do just with a camera, other games need buttons!

Blackadder.

I believe he is talking about Project NATAL.

I don't see implementation in many games yet, so don't get too worried about it replacing controllers.

I think Cliff Bleszinski will be a big supporter of this, he complained games use too many buttons (Even thoguh Gears uses almost all of them).

Well I can pointout many things here.

1: You can achieve 90% of Stuff without buttons

2: Sony guys an idiot. A developer can still develope a joystick like extra if needs be. You can still hold a controller in your hand as well. Its not just limited to JUST camera, developers could make swords, guns anything they wanted to

both Wii and PS3 are limited to hand only movment. Xbox has got the whole body and then can whack developers can whack on anything they like wink.gif

The Six Axis alone was not something I felt needed in gaming, and the Wii just makes you look spastic. Speaking of Sony's EYE cam, I saw them at Target, or Wallmart, dirt cheap, seemed like closeout prices.

Anyway, the motion control is something that's akin to the VR methods gamers have thought to introduce, simple stages of putting one's whole body into a character on screen (or in VR, special glasses would immerse the player)

DLink router

I went through three of those f*ckers before getting a Linksys router. Wasn't able to connect to XBL with my 360 with any of the D-Links, but the Linksys did (and still does) work like a charm.

D-Link is, in all honesty, garbage.

Yeah, I recently moved and was unable to bring along my Linksys router and it bothers me. But I don't think the router's the problem to be honest. I think it's the fact my internet's being routed through my Mac just to get to my Xbox sad.gif

I'm playing the one Xbox360 I assembled that had a two light version RRoD, that one uses the X-clamp mounts and it's working, so there's something more messed up with the first one I bought. Since MS is basically shunning all people working on these, it's safe to get a third party to try and resolve any problem.

I think it's bogus, but at first I was just pissed at the extent of the RRoD problem, once you're faced with it rather then just reading about it. Since my unit was filthy inside, a cleaning and reseating with new paste was supposed to be the remedy, however, most of you know the kit with several washers and mounts (flat head screws) and the idea taped pennys set on top of the "ANA" chip IIRC, would be the recommended user repair.

I've only worked with what came on the two units, didn't buy any kits or local hardware parts. Right now I have the mobo from the defective one in my freezer. If you fridge the motherboard and then immediately fire it up, in less then a few minutes it will be warm again, this proves the heat theory even though if it's off you'd expect it to run cool for awhile. What I did find is that you can touch a properly running system's heatsinks, if the system is getting too hot and has issues, you'll find it hard to hold your finger on the heatsinks, it will burn in short order!

Anyway, that's what it appears to be with these units, as I mentioned, one is plugging away, but any time I've had intense police action in GTA, the game is jittering, short freeze ups just like the PS3 version I had trouble with. If it terminally freezes, then I will be about a pissed as I can get!

Got email again from MS, even though they keep changing personal in addressing my queries, I get that if tampered with, they won't deal with it, and yeah, that's what we'd assume basically, though I am asking them if their warranty is only good to the original owner, which is a bit unclear, it could be that you can just send it in if the case is original as assembled, however, Since I repaired mine with new heatsink paste and swapped drive, they allude that 'modified' Xboxes won't work with XBL, though I just replies I am not adding any hardware or game cheat, or reverse engineering.

In the way they inform me opening the case introduces risk of electric shock, I told them I haven't been shocked and I accepted the risk in any repair... but that I refuse to discard the board until all options are exhausted. They don't really acknowledge that, which is stupid. I don't know if it's unrational fear that a user repaired unit is working on their Network??

Just bothers me, as repairs to any electronics is not something new, many people have done so for years.

Damn, you must really like to type. We should change the title of this topic to "Slammy's repair blog". Anyways, you are beating your head against a brick wall. Like I said earlier - no sticker on the case, no dice.

It's to aid anyone who deals with this on their own, HELL, I'm still getting mail from MS which is a lot of the defacto disclaimers, and their own Knowledgebase article details simple troubleshooting only.

I'm asking them about second hand repair support, as I'm not sure I see it worded anywhere. And buying parts for the Xbox, which they told me they don't do.

I did look over Ebay and it's confusing... add to that, that PayPal is now required officially.

I need the on off button panal with the telltale lights, so that part would come in handy, as well as the motor for that DVD ROM.

If nothing gets better, I will list it on Craig's List and pack it away. It is easy to work on, if it only WORKED. Solder could be the issue, for their own in-house boards, the solder is too brittle. (IIRC)

You should do a local search then if you want it to be fixed by someone. There's actually quite a lot of places that do it here, its also usually a lot cheaper than getting it fixed by MS themselves. But if you haven't got the sticker on it then I doubt they'll do it.

So I finally saw some of the E3 event on the news tonight. I have to say, I've not a clue why xbox are making those free handed sensor bars. I mean if you wanted to play that kind of stuff you'd buy a freaking Wii. And not to mention, sensor controls never really do what you want them to do its like you have to fight just to get the most simple controls mastered.

The out of warranty blurb is odd however, but I suspect there is more wrong with this board then the other, I have done extensive torque adjustments with the heatsink bolts. The clipping X-clamps set the heatsinks at predetermined height and that Xbox is running fine.

Lastly, I had the mobo-chassis in my refrigerator all night, connected it up first thing in the morning and fired it back up, still E74. Heats up, shuts down in about 4 minutes.

However, removed the sinks again, cleaned the dies slightly (mainly CPU this time), I added more coolant and mixed the two brands I do have, the result is STILL E74, but it stays on and it also is running cooler, the heatsinks were left on another 4 odd minutes I could actually touch the heatsinks this time. There's a clear performance difference.

One thing I asked MS is to give a better technical rundown of E74 if I can't have them work on it, just to try and squeeze more technical diagnosis out of them, however, if all they did is put General Hardware Fault down for myriad coding, it's CRAP!

Charming Charlie would like this to move back to Tech chat, so pop on over to PC and Tech and watch the thread there for updates, I got new mail from MS today, I'm asking in return for more info on the error codes and the out of warranty service for second hand owners, I assume you'd need the receipt still, will see.

Here's MS's email;

I deeply apologize for the inconvenience and as I understand, you need to know details for the error Code E74..  I am sorry but I don't have any information regarding individual components.  The nature of the console itself is very complex, as it's a consumer electronic product that contains more than 1,700 different components and 500 million transistors.  There are obviously many things that can malfunction at any given time - but the majority of customers who own Xbox 360 consoles have had a terrific experience from their first day, and continue to, do in and day out.

I got the system back out, left it on (from the fridge!!) and it's staying on, but E74 screen, happy to report the heatsinks are both cool to the touch however... Stuck in this pattern, the chips have some other fault, I can't imagine cooling any more as it did not shut down but fans were on high regardless

Has anyone has problems with Live within the last hour or so? I don't know if it was just at my end or not but it kept reconnecting me to Live, and then disconnecting me for no apparent reason. Also last night while trying to join an IV party mode with friends no matter who sent the invite or how many times I restarted my xbox ( and even restarted my internet ) it would just not let me connect to the damn game. Anyone ever have the same problem?

I'm back on my working Xbox assembly since the other one is E74 stuck mode for now (stays on however!)

I tried connecting to a signal via my laptop and it's ethernet cable to the Xbox360, where it had shown a Wired connection found but could not establish IP code, the next stage of the checklist (in Dashboard), my laptop was connected via Internet Explorer and logged into Xbox Live's website, which I thought would help, and the Internet Properties set to share in the Windows options, which I thought would allow a hub operation. This was tried in a tech chat thread with a Linksys router, and that's the one I found open as well. Typically my default setting finds a Linksys and has not trouble using them.

Anyway, I tried a custom MAC on the Xbox end, just to check that, nothing.

Slamman, if I recall correctly, E74 is a dead GPU. Not sure if you know that already, but it might be something very difficult to fix, I'm guessing the GPU is properly attached to the board? I'm not too familiar with 360 innards.

Also its always a bitch trying to connect to the internet through Xbox with some routers. I also wouldn't even bother trying to set up xbox live on it if you have dial up. If you are using somebody else's internet and its still not connecting, its because you have to kind of reset the router itself or press a couple of buttons ( I did on mine anyway ) which opens up the signal to find the xbox ( I don't know if this would have to happen when using the cable )

Try looking at xbox.com for some support.

1: You can achieve 90% of Stuff without buttons

I think you can only realisticly do FPS games and FPS variations of games. Like soccer, the penalty kicks would be great, but the actual main game would not work. Any 3rd person games wouldnt work** like how would they do Tomb Raider for example? Motion capture could be introduced as part of a game (like the penalty kicks) but not as the main thing.

** Skating is an exception.

To add to that, some things simply feelalot better with a tactile response, such as driving games. Feels kinda stupid to 'air-steer' and it would be pretty annoying if it randomly glitched out on the final corner and you lost the race.

It's a fantastic achievement, it's simply nowhere near practical enough at this stage though.

I don't think its practical all together to be honest. I don't see why you'd need such a thing while playing on the 360. If I wanted to play games where I had to use my body to do sh*t I'd play on the Wii or I'd go out and play it for real(sport games)

Wish I had a wireless connect FROM my Xbox, I get a faint Wifi signal and I'd just like to see it working to get a feel for it. Can you get Lost and the Damned onto a DVD via PC? I inquired with MS but have to wait for their reply.

I'd been asking about repair options with my first 360, they replied that out of warranty is offered to second hand owners if the tags are present. Keep in mind, I had that as an option for my 360 I bought, but it had been opened prior, and likely I was the third owner AT LEAST, according to the backstory. Is there a Wifi/wireless adapter option open to poor people? The hardware is $100 in local stores. I see a USB thumb drive can be used but not sure the details (MS gives a page link as far as I've seen with it) May require a HDD to effectively work

No, you'll just have to wait for the Grand Theft Auto: Episodes disc to come out which also has TBOGT.
