Dem57
Anyone listen to Slightly Stoopid? Not sure if you would call it straight up reggae, but it's influenced by it. I had a listen to it at youtube but i didn't really like it, i don't really dig the "white-boy-trying-to-be-rastafari" thing, its kind of ironic EDIT: officially a Street cat (look at the custom member title) Edited December 8, 2007 by Dem57 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/294759-di-reggae-yard/?do=findComment&comment=1057307468 Share on other sites

Slightly Stoopid is f*cking great. I wouldn't call them reagge, but more ska/punk-ish with reggae influences. I love listening to their Live and Dierect album. oh and you don't have to be black or from africa to believe rastafari Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/294759-di-reggae-yard/?do=findComment&comment=1057321768 Share on other sites
Dem57
BUMP! I felt like bumping this since i just got the X-rated Trojan box set, and man is it god or what? i can't get max romeo's "play whit your pussy" of my mind! @bevis: a white guy believing in rasta is like a black guy believing in White pride i prefer reggae before the whole rasta thing since i find it harder to relate to. Straznicy
I've not branched in "reggae" particularly far, but about 50% of my time awake is spent listening to ska. mystk
Does anyone here like UB40? I really love them, and Bob Marley and UB40 are the main reasons why I like reggae. I mean, Red Red Wine has got to be one of the best songs ever IMO ! Can anyone recommend any reggae artists/groups like UB40 please? Really want to get into this kind of chilling reggae, but don't know where to start . Really want to get into this kind of chilling reggae, but don't know where to start . Cant stand UB40, watered down toy town reggae, the only interesting thing is where they got there name from. Apparently some of there earlier stuff is listenable due to social commentary, but f*ck that. Dont know where to start on recommendations..just take a look into roots and foundation reggae..tbh just look a bit deeper into the scene and there is loads of stuff. Dennis Brown would be a good starting point. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/294759-di-reggae-yard/?do=findComment&comment=1057597628 Share on other sites

jimmy.
I think you should listen to The SpecialsThe Slackers Bad Manners Desmond Dekker The Toasters Laurel Atiken The Skatalites Toots & the Maytals Ska-P Decibelios (some of their stuff is Ska-ish) Madness The Selecter Some Reel Big Fish Lee Perry The Ethiopians Symarip The Beat Great list, Straznicy. Those are pretty much all of my favorite ska bands right there. I like 2 tone and 1st wave ska and the only third wave ska I can tolerate other than the Bosstones is stuff influenced by third wave. I have seen the Slackers twice live, and they always put on an energetic show with a good opening act and it's only been 15 dollars. Warlord., you'd probably like Beres Hammond. He makes somewhat pop-ish but really chill, good natured reggae; Which is what I would call UB40. Straznicy
Thanks for the recommendations Mullen, I remember listening to some Skatalà a while back and their stuff was pretty solid. Only understand about half of what they and the Decibelios are singing though. I'll stop by the Yardies chat some time then Dem, still reckon I'd like to try getting into SA-MP though. Any fans of Steel Pulse? Probably my favourite reggae band, they've got a lot of punk energy about them. Woody510
and self respecting reggae fan has seen The harder they come Easily my favorite movie soundtrack of all time, btw. Anyone ever listen to john browns body? They've become pretty big over the past 5 or 6 years. They started out in a town about 30 minutes away from where i live, so i've seen them countless times. They always play a free concert every year in a park nearby, good stuff I saw them back when they were playing coffee shops and bars back in the day. I also listen to 10 Ft Ganja Plant, which has some of the same members and which sounds pretty similar. Both are so mellow that the best time to listen to them is when you are trying to fall asleep or are relaxing hardcore while high. Are there any actual Jamaicans in the John Brown's Body? The lead singer's voice sounds pretty legit, but they are from upstate NY, so I couldn't tell.
