Welcome to the Finish the Story III Sign-up & Discussion thread. Here we will plan and discuss every aspect of the next chapter in Finish the Story.

If you have no idea what Finish the Story is, take a look at what some of us have been doing in this thread. The whole idea started off as a GTA IV forum game, and ever since has evolved into a Writer's Discussion community project.

So, if you're a writer, sign-up to take part in Finish the Story III! But please, only join if you are actually going to participate. New people are always welcome, and if you think you may be interested but have questions, PM me.

If you do sign up, please provide us with a small sample of writing! (This is for new people only, if you already took part in FTS II, I already know how you write.) Just a few sentences or so would suffice. Keep in mind that this is for serious writers only.

First things first: Let's plan this thing out. I think the majority of us have decided that III will be something new and refreshing, not just another attempt to mock a potential GTA IV storyline. What I mean to say is, we're starting the whole idea over from scratch and creating our own GTA universe. With the exception of GTA locations and companies, this also means no returning characters included; everything is going to be made up by the writers who take part in Finish the Story III. And even non-participants, GTA fans who are not writers, are welcome to come in and suggest ideas.

So this is how it's going to work. First let's talk location. Where is our story going to take place? Is it going to be a current GTA city or a made-up one? Keep in mind that we want a place that's going to stay true to the crime-ridden nature of the GTA series. Don't come in and post "Let's have it in ANTARCTICA!!!11" No. You don't see very many penguin drive-by's down there, do you?

Once we figure out and can all agree on a location, we'll move on to characters, plot, etc. But for now try to keep it on-topic.

Also feel free to post banners we could use to spice up the opening post of the thread, when we make it. And if anyone knows how/is good at making signatures, I think it would be cool for every III participant to have one that is alike.

So, who's in? Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

Count me in as well. I know I didn't do jack sh*t for FtS II(I started my freshmen year at high school, so I had a sh*t load of homework, and I had football practice till 6:00), but I'm real excited about the whole new locale.

I vote for a Boston-themed city (perhaps called Harston, as my fan fic implies), we could do it in a 'The Departed' fashion, what with the Irish mob. The main character's name is James 'Jimmy' Donaghan, straight outta prison for five years for robbing a bank, his boss ditched him. I plan to have a friend who went in with him, and who helps him out. It's not only a revenge story, it's about Jimmy carving out a piece of the criminal underworld pie.

How do ya like it?

Well, I have an idea. Why don't we make a list of cities that we may be using. So far its

1. Chicago

2. Boston

Better yet let's have a poll.

I'm new, I've only written one story in writer's discussion. So count me in. How about Philly or Boston? Actually, Boston seems like a better place to me.

Hey TubbyJ, I just started High School too. There really is a sh*tload of homework.

I just added Philly and some old favorites from the old topic. Tell me more, so I can update the list.

I have a Creative Writing class, she assigns a two-three page story or essay almost every night, I'm not joking at all.

Although there are perks to the class. There's like only four guys and almost thirty girls in there, and every one of the girl's thinks I'm 'sensitive' and 'creative'. Score for TubbyJ, baby!

Sorry for the double post, but I think we have to add something to the rules about going off on these crazy plot schemes. For example, the whole "Niko hears police sirens, but oh wait! They disappear and now we're doing something completely different!" scenarios.

The first poster should leave something at the end of his post kind of like notes, to describe where the story should go. Perhaps he could write "Niko has a police chase throughout the city (perhaps using an Uzi)." The second poster would still have the ability to be flexible and such, but he would still have to at least loosely follow the first writer's notes. Just a suggestion.

You know what, how about a place like Detroit, or Vice City, or Pittsburgh, or even Portland, Oregon!!!? Actually no. Washington D.C?

Yep. I did that once with the tank chase. I feel ashamed. Good idea, Tubby.

PS I'm gonna add those to the list

Sorry I critiscized you for that, but it wasn't just you though, I was referring to a lot of others. Your writing's actually pretty good.

Anyways, Detroit and Washington, D.C. are pretty good. By the way, let's try to steer away from all the cities ending with 'City', Vice City, Liberty City, Carcer City, it drives me crazy.

You know guys, we don't have to restrict ourselves to these cities. It's an all new world and imagination is our only limit. (Wow I felt gay saying that.)

Point is, we can create our own location, not based off of any other city.

I kind of liked my idea in the other thread about an east-coast state opposite of San Andreas - including 3 or 4 major cities - Liberty City, Boston, Philadelphia, and DC. Plus countryside in between.

I think I have enough choices on the list. Should someone contact a mod about a poll?

I think it's a bad idea to have a poll, because others can just come in and screw up the votes. We should just have it here, by word.

I vote for a city made up !

That Works too. I'll tally votes on the list. I myself vote for the East Coast idea Vercetti proposed.

New York City, Philly, Boston, and Washington D.C would all be good canidates.

I've always been a fan of the East Coast cities. I don't know why.

Lovin the east coast setting Vercetti. My vote goes there.

Hey lets base the "citys' on the east coast off of Boston,Philly,Baltimore,Jersey,D.C,btw I live an hour away from Washington.it would mix all the "elements" of those citys.

I was thinking that if we did the whole East Coast-state thing that we're gonna run out of ideas for future stories...plus I really like the Irish mob theme.

In the future we can go out and spread to other places.Think of in future updates having different countrys. It wont have to only be based off the U.S.Lets not think of the future "installments" for now.We hav'nt even finished deciding on this one lol.

This is the whole area we are considering for the East Coast Idea:

Possiblilites of Norfolk? Could have some great fights, and a place to steal Jet Fighters. Also thinking of going further west too, so we can boat off the Niagara Falls.

Also, this is kinda off topic, but I was thinking we should make a GTA-esque cover as the artwork, you know, showing characters and stuff.

Boston could be included as one of the east coast cities.... it's a win-win situation.

Anyways, what cities are you guys wanting to see if we did do the east coast thing? Any suggestions on names for the cities or state?
