The sunlight and its warmth rushed across my face as I took my sweater off of it. I had put it there earlier to protect my eyes from the sun. My back was against the playground's wood, as my friend and I laid down against it. The playground's floor was five feet off the ground, putting us high up. I sat up, squinting because of the sun, and looked back at her. This is our usual hang out at these times of the summer.

"Hey, the sun glows nice on your face." Bess laughed. "It makes you look chinese."

I laughed with her and laid back down putting the sweater back over my face. As we talked and laughed, our voices were muffled because of the sweaters.

What was that? I thought to myself. I heard footsteps from the gravel below.

"Man we totally got him. Hide it fast before anyone sees." laughed a man as he took a puff of his cigarette. Out of curiosity, I sat up to see who it was. A young teenager, I assumed to be 18 years old walked past the ladder that leads up to the playground. The sun shone on the back of his black T-shirt making the dragon emblem on the glow a little.

"Yeah hid it already. Let's go over to that bench." said another man. He followed closely behind the first. He wore a blue shirt but had the same dragon emblem on the back.

My heart beat as I remembered our valuables were on the ground beside the ladder, which near the bench. Wallet, keys, cellphone, MP3 players, and all that kind of important stuff. Bess got up beside me and folded her sweater. She had a nervous look on her face and so did I.

"Let's go..." her voice trailed off. I don't know how, but I felt Bess' nervousness. I sat there, watching her eyes change gaze from me to the men. As she walked past me, I saw the sun far on the horizon, setting. A sudden realization came over me, this could be the last I see it.

She climbed down the metal ladder as I got up on my feet. She picked up her bag and looked at me. Something from her eyes told me to hurry. I got down as fast as I could avoiding the guys' eyes. Bess walked towards the exit, putting her sweater inside her bag. I looked ahead of her, on her left was the bench, on her right was the exit. Fortunately, there was a fence separating the two. As I passed the fence catching up to her, my nervousness began to disappear. We were safe from any danger.

I stared at the gravel beside my feet as I walked past them, kicking a few out of the way. Bess got out her cellphone ready to call her mother and inform her she's on her way home. I felt like we were being watched, by big bulging eyes, from two people who were sitting less than ten feet away from us.

"What were you two doing all alone?" said a voice. I froze up, it was one of the men. I heard him laugh to his companion, as he took another puff of his cigarette.

"Nothing! None of your business, so shutup." said Bess and kept walking. I glanced sideways and caught the man's eyes. He had a sharp look as he took a puff of his cigarette. The sun reflected against his eyes as he stared at me, motionless. I seemed to last forever until e winked at me and gave out a soundless laugh. I ran up to Bess and pointed across the street, indicating to cross.

"Those guys are bitches" said Bess. We both looked back. The two were sitting on the bench looking up at the sky with their backs turned to us.

Bess and I walked down the street towards her house. I glanced back at the men and they were still in the same position. They gave me a bad feeling, a feeling that they're murderers. I didn't know how close I was to the point.

We hugged goodbye a few blocks away from her house and I started back up the road again on my journey home. A few blocks away from the playground, I stopped. My feet could not move, I felt my knees shake, and my upper body felt as heavy as a boulder as my heart beat loudly.

I'll take a detour. I finally got my head set and took a left turn instead of going straight. As I turned, I glanced at my watch which showed twenty minutes until six. To be on time for dinner was my goal, remembering that I promised my mother I would not be late.

In an effort not to be late for dinner, I started jogging. I took a right at the next turn and kept on running. A block away from the playground is safe enough, I thought to myself.

I saw my reflection on the back window of a Honda as it passed by at the next intersection. My eyes followed the trunk of the car, going east towards the playground. I took a step on the road and started jogging slowly again. I was past it now, all safe. On the next turn, I sped up a bit. The chilly afternoon air brushed across my face as I ran down the sidewalk, passing a couple of kids playing hopscotch on the sidewalk. As I took a right, keeping my speed, the wind blasted very hard against my face. I got up to realize it was a man's chest, not the wind.

"Well, look who it is Paulo." said the guy. The same guy from the playground.

"Hey man, this is a pretty deserted street." said Paulo pulling out something from his pocket. It was a gun. I got up and turned left, sprinting very fast.

The seconds seemed like hours as I tried to get away. My feet heavy, my arms not being able to move fast, everything seemed heavy. I turned my head to the left, between the houses I saw the sun once more, my eyes bulging. With a stinging sensation on my back, the ground came rushing to my face.

---

Note: This is based off real experience that I had a few weeks ago. Some things are tweaked (of course I didn't get shot, neither did the guy have a gun when I bumped back into them, they had something else though.) My friend's name was changed, too.

Great writing.

You might want to put more detail in it, and add more of your feelings you had at that time. I'm not an expert writer, I'm just suggesting what I felt.

To be honest, it was so hard to distinguished what I really felt that day.
