The Official R&B Topic

Loyal to the Game

I noticed there was an official metal topic and an official rap topic but no R&B topic and don't say Rap and R&B are the same because they're not and if you think that you know nothing of the subject and should not be posting here, like it says on the rap topic "Playas Only"

Now lets get started...

I think you need to go away from the internet, or at least topics that involve opinions of other people. I mean, hey, to my comment, your responce was "Gtfo." (which I totally asked for, right).

What else did you expect when you posted that?..

And now shouting, "HOLY sh*t I DID NOT f*ckING EXPECT THAT ONE! Seriously. Go back to /b/, byob, fyad, whatever. Your type isn't welcome here. Or anywhere for that matter," just makes you look hypocritical, since you're not better.

Honestly.

Get reported.

A couple of R'n'B singers that were featured on 2Pac songs are good. I also like this one, uh, what's his name... He was on the chorus of 2Pac's track Dumpin' with Hussein and Papoose.

Edit: Carl Thomas, that is.

Chorus part.

If you don't like R&B that's around now, did you like it in the 90s?

E.G. Bobby Brown, SWV, TLC, Today ect. Anyone like them?

Some of it, yes. I'm actually looking for the roots of the genre though. There's some good RnB of the 2000s too, just not mainstream.

Loyal to the Game

Does anyone know any Bobby Valentino songs? I found a good R&B playlist (not mine so I don't like some of them):

This Guy's Playlist

I'm actually looking for some 50s-60s stuff. I realise this topic is about contemporary RnB, but yeah.

Well actualy it's about R&B in general, so you could make one of those playlist things and show me what kind of songs you mean.

Well Rolling Stones did some R&B stuff in the 60's also the Yardbirds. You may want to try them. The Animals too. All Rythym & Blues artists.

^ Nah, that's not for me but there was some good R&B in the 70s'but the origin of the genre was sh*t.

I'm trying to get into more RnB. None of that modern sh*t though. Any suggestions?

You're looking for some older R&B? Try George Benson (FTW). Anyone know any good stuff by him.

I got this Mariah Carey album from 93' Music Box the other day and it's pretty good.

greatest love of all is one of the best/most moving songs ive ever heard. I think whitney houston did a cover and absolutely murdered it, the silly tart.

Of course the mainstream sh*t sucks sarcasm.gif

I don't see what the big f*cking deal is, T-Pain, R Kelly, Akon, Ne-Yo. They all have some pretty solid stuff. You people are just to f*cking big headed, cause in your minds anything that is mainstream is crap. All of you go put your head down on a train track. You all just need to live with the fact that this is the music of our time, and there is not a f*cking thing you can do about it except for turn off the damn radio.

What ever, moving on....

Anyone ever hear of One Republic?

The song "Apologize" isn't all that bad.

REMIX by Timbaland

I prefer the remix.

I agree 100%

What's so wrong with mainstream? Because loads of people listen to it you can't? I don't like T-Pain that much because his voice is annoying, same with Akon but singers like Ne*yo, Rihanna or Mariah Carey are talented and therefore I will continue to purchase thier records regardless of weather it's new or old or mainstream or whatever.

If they're talented I will buy thier records it's that simple.

I'm pretty sure this is R&B, has a little bit of rap. f*cking sick song.

Damn, that song brought back some memories, sad that alot of mainstream stuff is pretty much garbage now. you get a few ones here and there but not as many good ones like back in the day.

I think one of the things bringing modern/mainstream R&B down is it's closeness to rap. All the singers that were talentless to bigin with (eg- Chris Brown, and sometimes R. Kelly) are making songs with talentless rappers. I like rap but the only ones involved in R&B are complete and utter sh*t (eg- Juelz Sanntana, Bow Wow, Jermain Dupri, Noah, P. Diddy ect.).

Chris Brown has a bit of talent but whoever produced his last album must have been on crack. Every song was the same.

T Pain has way to much rap, his voice is annoying and should be shot.

Akon's album convicted was a huge let down after trouble and it completely failed ( there were only 3 or 4 good tracks on Trouble anyway).

If you're looking for some older R&B try George Benson (anything from the mid to late 70s by him), Mariah Carey's older stuff (eg- Music Box from 1993, the producetion and her singing on this was much better than any of her new stuff), Bobby Brown or SWV and basicly just all swing/R&B from the late 80s like the radio station CSR in San Andreas (though San Andreas failed to capture the pure brilliance of this genre)

If you're looking for somthing a bit more new and fresh then I would have to recomend Rihanna's A Girl Like Me (her new album looks like a huge let down), Ne*yo (I know most of you don't like him but he's pretty talented) Mariah Careys 2nd last album the one before Emancipation of Mimi and although I don't mind B2K or chris Brown I couldn't honestly recomnend you them and I'm praying Chris Brown's new album will be an improvement.

Seing as how I had to bump this, here is, what is in my opinion, the best R&B over the decades:

George Benson || Greates Love Of All (mid to late 70s)

Bobby Brown || Every Little Step I Take (1988)

Boyz II Men || End Of The Road (1993)

B2K || Why I Love You (2002)
