Cran.
Are you guys required to have insurance on your cars? Because all we need is 3rd party insurance. Yer, we're required to have insurance, turns out the punto I'm buying is a 52, not a 55, so it's 3 years older, no big deal. 3rd party on it is gonna set me back about £1800 which is around 4,448.90 AUD. Fun huh. f*cking hell! That's 4.5 times more than what my car is worth!
*gta star*
I got caught going 73 in a 55 a couple months after getting my license, I know, I was an idiot. Then, a couple months ago, just after getting my new car and coming back from a graduation party, at 8 in the morning, I get pulled over going 94 in a 65. The cop reduced it on the spot to an 84, so I would "only be going 19 over". If he wouldn't have done that, my license would have been suspended, for going more than 20mph over. It cost me $200 just for that though. (reduced to 4 parking tickets) I've slowed down quite a bit since then. And still no points on my license. A dodgy copper then hey ? I had a lesson a week for just under 3 months, passed my test a month ago. Learned with BSM (who suck, but my instructor was good) in a 1.6l Astra, also had plenty of very helpful practice in my mum's car for only £1 per day on insurance! Got a '96 1.1l Saxo now.Manual all the way, by the way As for insurance, the car is owned by my mum and the policy is under her name, with me as a named driver; at least £1000 cheaper. See their cars around, most of the time now, they have the new Vauxhall Corsa's, in a bright orange colour. They are expensive though, and they teach you the same principles as another instructor would.
JayC
well i live partly on a farm with lots of land so i got to learn a lot and minis are obviously very small lol. OT: i love your avatar and title, parcel force suck! f*ck you Parcel Force are the f*cking bomb. I hate insurance, got my renawal price in £707 third party for a 20 year old driving a 1998 1.25l Ford Fiesta with 1 years no claims and 3 points on my license. Will go up since I want fully comp, need to add commuting, and am now a student again. Lame. £575 fully comp for me on a new car as well. Makes no sense to me. Edit: With changes they wanted to charge me £800 but I talked them down to £685. Still extortionate. Edited September 3, 2007 by JayC

stretch.
Pffh, I've been 17 for 3 days Oh and the PF is the most hardcore gang ever! But yer, I've had a look at some, and for third party fire and theft, even on a provisional it'll cost me £1200, which is damn cheap for some reason, but doesn't offer any kind of anything, and the theft is up to £100, hardly worth it! But other companies would charge me £8000! effing ridiculous! I might have to look into putting my mum as a first driver, taking into account her 20+ years of no claims! @92f, that absolutely sucks getting caught twice in one day, I hope you don't get anything through the post! *gta star*
There is nothing wrong with Automatics, in fact, most luxury cars are Automatic. There wouldn't be a hope in hell in me spending £60,000 on a car, and having to shift a gearbox, like I'd do in a Ford Fiesta. Also, people say driving Automatic cars are for 'old men that are lazy', well, maybe one day, you'll all get sick of driving Manuals.
Grandthefter
Im 18 and drive an auto, while you're all shifting gear (which admitably isn't that hard) im doing something easier still which is nothing.
-slash
It's those sort of attitudes that is the reason so many stupid motherf*ckers crash their cars. They want everything to be uninvolved and easy. Sure there's people who drive auto and can pay attention, but there's a whole heap more retards who get blaise about the whole process and don't think about what they're doing. I'm with Bill Plant, unsure of the hourly rates, but they've got a .co.uk webby if you care to look @Coldfusion, I hope you stall every time you change gears, because infact it is rocket science. Would you be able to build a drivetrain with a manual clutch, let alone an auto box. Also, I'd like to see you buy a manual Audi Q7. Elitism ftl. Anyways, I've managed to find an insurance company that'll cover me on my provisional on my punto for around £1200, third party fire and theft, so not so bad Spirito di Punto may be mine earlier than I imagined! stretch.
I'm just merely pointing out that you said it's not rocket science in a manual, but when you change gears it is rocket science. If you don't understand the physics behind a clutch then you'll slip up more. Stay outta my topic till you can drive! darn 15 year olds!
SIP YEK NOD
Im 18 and drive an auto, while you're all shifting gear (which admitably isn't that hard) im doing something easier still which is nothing. LIKE MASTURBATING! ...wait, whah..... @auto vs standard: just because something requires a little more input doesn't make it automatically better. for my day to day, errand, point to point driving in traffic, i love my automatic. my large truck is an 18 speed, that doesn't mean its more useful than your 4 speed(well it is, but i wouldn't want to use it everywhere i go). automatics have their uses and their fans. some people prefer it. some may say it takes the fun out of driving, but when you don't have the room to have fun, suffering through it with a standard isn't going to bring the fun back. doing a brakestand and having your tranny shift into second without stopping the tires from spinning, THAT is a pile of fun in a small space. cold fusion 33
ok ok whatever i never said that it wasnt more useful to have a manual or an automatic car and can see why they both have there pros and cons. and anyway 15 year olds? ive probably been driving longer than most 17 years olds... and anyway to you (stretch) it may seem like rocket science but when you have been doing it for long enough you will find it is not rocket science and it will just be a normal easy thing to do. stretch.
yer, good luck trying to unlearn any bad habits I'm sure you've picked up in your numerous years of driving. Dude, I did 5 years of go karting, I hold a full scooter licence, a car isn't much of a leap to be honest with you. But guess what, you may also have been driving longer, but I can drive on a public road. So quiet wench. 2nd lesson tomorrow.
cold fusion 33
look ok ok i dont wanna have to keep arguing with you about: -how long weve have been driving a car -whether a manual is better than an auto -whether it is rocket science to change gear or to build a drivetrain and gearbox so thats all settled with the argument crap. (good luck with your driving tests and licence and getting a punto )
stretch.
Yes, I'd like to wish you good luck in the following: Controlling the car on a crowded road Driving in wet/sunblindness conditions night time driving controlling a car at junctions learning to peep and creep Proper manouveres Reverse Parallell parking Etc. Anyways, todays lesson was good. My instructor made me stop so he could pick some berries for his slow gin. Anyways, gotta get my theory test booked, a bit gutted about the increase in the amount of questions, but hey, what can I do about it ey?
Guybrush Threepwood
but hey, what can I do about it ey? Beat the everliving theoretical sh*t out of that test They're not too hard anyways. Just keep asking yourself at each and every question 'what would Steve McQueen do?', and go in the other direction. Cause, you know, Steve McQueen lived to do whatever was illegal. So doing the opposite must be legal. It is a clear case of flawless logic.
