lurchseesu420
I booked my practical driving test today. Its on the 23rd April at 8:10am. I was lucky, waiting list is usually longer than that. Damn. Back when I got my license, I booked my test for later that day. So I took the test the same day I booked it. When my sister booked hers, it was a week after. *gta star*
Yeah, times change lol. I'm lucky though, from the 1st April, the practical driving test goes up to £56. I payed £48.50 - I saved myself a couple of quid.
Hell No..
Yep, thats how I felt. Relieved. Anyways, my Dad just rang me and wants me to go to the garage with him to pick up the other car and drive it back for him. Aint been in a car since I passed. Should be fine. I'm on Twitch! Are you? lurchseesu420
I think my knowledge test (for my PD) was around 7 bucks. But I was 15 back then and that's a bit hard to remember. I think I spent around 20 bucks for my road test (for my D). Again, I was 16, and even that is a bit hard to remember. Why is it that everyone seems to be spending sh*t loads on lessons? Is it required there. I don't see why you don't have your parents teach you for free like here in the US. Also you guys seem to start driving very late compared to the US (15 for your PD and 16 for your D). I don't know how it is in the U.S, but here in Ontario, Canada the practical tests are crazily strict. You could fail for not looking at the your rearview mirror before braking a few times. You have to go through a whole blindspot/mirrors routine before changing lanes or turning, and if you get the order wrong they could fail you. You even touch the curb during the parallel parking test and it's an automatic fail. Go 5 km/h above the limit and you would probably fail. The driving lessons here don't teach you how to drive, they teach you how to pass the practical test.
lurchseesu420
Our driving test aren't strict at all. We didn't even do parallel parking in the test. Of course in a rural area, you don't see much parallel parking anyway, so I guess it's not too big of a deal.
Pat
Our driving test aren't strict at all. Indeed, our tests are incredibly easy. I even know someone who lost points for being "too safe of a driver." Gotta love Tennessee.

Might have gone through there when I went caving in Cookeville Saturday. Edited March 19, 2008 by lurchseesu420
stretch.
yer, our tests are stupidly strict, and at most point bare no relevance to real driving conditions. Mirror Signal Manouver every time, leaving a 2 second gap, reverse parallel parking , 3 point turns, etc/
lurchseesu420
For ours you just go around the block. That simple.
Rocketkiller
Lucky bastard. I had my first driving lesson yesterday, you know what the instructor wanted me to do for a 3-point turn? Signal right, go to side of the road, stop, put it in park, pull the e-brake, turn on hazard flashers, look around, back to drive, release the e-brake, turn off flashers, signal left, turn, signal right, reverse and turn and finally signal left and complete it. You get points off if you forget any of those steps. Now the way that everybody does it: signal left, go for it.
Kaj.
What in the f*ck kind of instructor makes you use the parking break for a 3-point? Hell, putting it in park is stupid enough. Who are you using for Driving School?
-slash
Tell the instructor to f*ck off and suck a fat one.
Rocketkiller
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the proper way. Gonna check the driving handbook and see what it says.
stretch.
for us, it's pull up on the left, check mirrors and blindspots right indicator on, full lock right then take it off to the left a bit, slap on handbrake, into reverse to the biting point, check all the blindspots reverse putting left hand lock on, turn it off at the end, handbrake, first, biting point, blind spot check, off you go. kevin2006rhs
Any tips for my test then? Its not that long away. Stay calm. Remember, if if you have to drive like an uptight, overly-perfect prick during your test, you wont ever have to do it again. But seriously, good luck, and drive safe after you pass. Pretty much what he said, just pretend you're not being tested and that the instructor's just going to mark you, but what he does won't affect anything. If you worry you'll forget and make mistakes. Also, don't follow traffic, keep your own pace.

*gta star*
The instructors' don't even drive like they teach you. Makes me laugh when you see a driving instructor driving on his/her own without a pupil with one hand on the steering wheel.
eire320
im 18 have been drivin a car for the last year. got my full licence in october. i had my first lesson in a truck yesterday. i was used to travelling as a passenger but never drove one. I never realised how hard it was to drive, hi/lo 8 speed manual gearbox is hard to get used to and corners and roundabouts are nearly impossible the instructor said not to worry though because it all comes in time Edited April 2, 2008 by eire320
*gta star*
Well, I had my driving test today. 2 minors, but I didn't do enough observation on the parallel parking, therefore I failed. I was really pissed off as I was really confident, wasn't really nervous. Oh well, I'll try again.
1066ant
Danm, I don't think I'll ever pass my test. It sounds as hard as...errr. something impossible.

Kaiser_AK
I saw a corvette student driver car the other day. Had huge advertisement on the side of it for the driving school, heres the link to their website you can see the corvette on the bottom: http://www.potomacdrivingschool.net/ I thought it was awesome advertising. Got me to remember the name of the school and I would want to go there to learn how to drive. Then again I bet its most driven around by instructors and the kids don't even get to sit in it.
