james_root
Thats not a motherboard, search google, it comes up with BIOS things, and a link from Tomshardware that shows someone else got confused. We know that the motherboard you have isn't Core 2 Duo compatable, cuz C2D is Socket LGA775, and there isn't a 1.6Ghz Pentium 4 for that socket, You'll have the older one. Kayuni: Apparently the GTX will barely be able to handle proper DX10 games, so if we thought like you, then we would have to wait for the 9800GTX isn't there a way i can learn what is my motherboard without opening the pc. Picolini
If you're going for a DX10 solution I don't recommend anything less than an 8800 GTS 320/2900 XT. I have an 8600 GT, 256mb, supports DX10 (i have vista as well) and it runs great on many games (Oblivion, GT-R 2, Battlefield 2, etc). I basically have all those games maxed out on graphics, if not completely. (this is on a Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz processor, and 2GB ram. Also running games at 1440x900 res) @james root Save up $999 and some cash for shipping, get this. http://velocitymicro.com/wizard.php?iid=86 Seriously, that's probably the best thing you can do. One thing though, doesn't come with monitor or speakers. Specs on it 8600GT 256mb GPU 2GB Ram 1.86 Duo Core 2 processor (a little low, but still nice. 2GB ram makes up for it) Asus P5N-E (SLI capabilites, can handle future Quad core upgrades as well ) 500 watt power supply (more than enough, can handle an 8800 GTX if I remember right) 250GB HDD 8 USB ports DVD +RW drive Vista Home Premium Now the best thing is, this is a custom computer making company. That means that in the future you'll easily be able to upgrade your computer to keep up with current technologies. The motherboard is good for a long while, as it can handle SLI (2 nvidia cards working together) and even a Quad or Extreme Core processor. There's also 4 slots in the front for DVD/CD drives, as well as 2 slots for 3 1/2" floppies which can be usefull for some. I for one highly recommend Velocity Micro. I bought one earlier this year, at the end of May. I've had no mechanical problems what so ever so far, and it runs like a dream. Of course, mine did cost $1,500, $500 more than the one above. But that's still pretty damn cheap, especially for how well it performs. Edited August 26, 2007 by Picolini

The point is, investing in a system so that you can play DX9 games, at the point that DX10 is taking off, seems wasteful.
james_root
i'll have pentium dual 2 core e4400 or 4300 1 gb kingston ddr2 553 mhz ram geforce 7600 gt and a pci motherboard for 400$ by the way my mother board is P4M266 it supports every p4. Brutuz
It doesn't support every P4, thats socket 478, and you need Socket 775 for the Pentium Duel Cores and the Core 2 Duos, etc. But you have noticed you need a new motherboard, I recommend ASUS or Gigabyte brands. Fozzy Fozborne
7600GTX, now that's an interesting choice because... there's no such thing has a 7600GTX. Yeah, a 8600GTS is a way better graphics card than the 8500GT, if you can't afford the 8600GTS, then go with the 7600GT. It's still powerful enough (and I've tested it) to run the latest games like Bioshock. Asus and Gigabyte are both good motherboard manufacturers. james_root
how much money is there between 8500 and 8600?
GTA3Freak-2001
About 50 bucks but I wouldn't go lower then the 8600 because even the 8600GT isn't that great in DX10 which is the only reason you'd get a 8600GT over a 7600GT. Get a 7600GT and later on perhaps when you find its not coping with your gaming needs you can ditch it and get a 8800GTS for example.

james_root
yeah, give me the money and i'll buy it. anyways i posted this in random q's too but maybe you won't see it at there. 'll be putting a 1gb ddr2 667mhz ram on my pc tomorrow but i was thinking. would it be clever to keep my 2 100mhz ddr 256 mb rams on my pc. would they improve the performance? and second one: does the hard discs improve pc's performances? Fozzy Fozborne
DDR is completely incompatible with DDR2 (the slot is in a different location on the DIMM). Hard drives are crucial to system performance, almost everything you run is running off the hard disk (at least until it's cached into the RAM). So, yes a slow hard drive will really slow down system performance, especially bootup time.
