Mafia 2

In the end, it is implied that Joe died, he wasn't part of Gallante's deal. Still, it's only implied and Joe could have survived. Anyway, I hope the next Mafia game is set in the 90's with Vito as an old MAFIA don.

Not likely. Vito was an idiot.

Even if Vito would die, I wouldn't mind. The story finds its closure within the game, even if it's open ended.

I would just like to have another GTA-like game with this degree of realism like in MAFIA 2.

Would't mind if it's a completely new cast, or not about italians, but maybe the yakuza, the irish mafia, etc.

Personally, Vito was an idiot because he hung out with Joe, who was a massive slob and an idiot. In fact, he barely actually did anything without Joe. He just followed him blindly.

The narrative was really bad but the actual gun fights was pretty good. I really liked gunfighting. But the problem was that there's so much tedious driving and lifting crates. Seriously, every chapter is like Drive across city, lift some crates, drive across city, have fist fight and then you MAYBE have a small to medium gun battle. Seriously, I'm halfway through the game and I'm cleaning freaking urinals??? But the actual gunfighting was strong, which is about the opposite of the original game.

I understand. But well, Mafia II is more like a scripted movie. You always have to clean the urinal, it will always rain in the last mission, etc.

GTA IV has more freedom to it, which car, which time of day, which mission, etc. mostly up to yourself.

Anyway, Vito was still young, 20 years old? 25 in the 1950's after prison?

And he didn't have anything to do back then, they let him carry the crates for Derek to show that there was either a hard working job with a lousy salary or the criminal lifestyle.

And what should he have done instead? Go study and become...whatever? This game is about the MAFIA and you can't avoid having idiots in there, even if it is the protagonist.

He simply follows orders, wants to earn respect and money. Yeah, honor amongst thieves...it's bullsh*t, but that's one thing that becomes obvious in this game, too.

There is something bro ship. He know Joe since his childhood and stood up for him. They did sh*t together. Personally it is Henry who is an idiot.

I don't mind that its more scripted. Its raining? Fine. Frankly, comparing Mafiyawn 2 to GTAIV is like comparing the first one to GTAIII. If you compare it to the original mafia, its faults show more often.

The thing is though, that you're still doing the same thing over and over again. The whole game is basically petty crime following petty crime. Vito apparently rises through the ranks but what happens in the game never changes. You're still sorting crates and doing petty thefts right until the very end of the game.

Not to mention how the game kind of fails at giving motivation for Vito. There's his family, but frankly, Vito doesn't give a sh*t. He basically contributes to his mother's death and assume his way of approaching crime was wrong and goes back to Joe, showing he's an idiot. He keeps his sister in a shame of a marriage and when she doesn't want anything to do with him, his motivation changes to "I WANT MOAR STUFF." Its like he doesn't care, which is true, cause he's characterless. What made Mafia 1 work well was Angelo and his relationship with everyone around him, while this just doesn't have this. You could argue that we're playing a bad guy here, who doesn't care about those around him, but he still has to be interesting. Vito isn't, he's a coat hanger.

Sequel to this, this game has a serious problem with racism and sexism. I get that its a racist time, and I'm fine with that, its that all the minorities are all stereotyped horribly. The "Moolies" ie Black people wear sport jackets and hang around the ghetto causing trouble. The "Micks" or Irish all hang around bars, are drunk etc. The "Yids" or Jews are all debt collectors because all Jews are good at maths, right? I don't mind that Joe is racist or whatever, but can't the game be a bit more realistic?

Don't get me started on women in this game. Unlike the first game, women in this game are there to be f*cked or to be on the other side of great lines such as "F*ck you, you f*cking cumdumpster!" Its not just that, its that they're almost want to be treated like that. I help a woman with her car and she immediately offers sexual favors as a reward. Its like they want to be treated that way. If that doesn't set the tone, then how about the fact that collectibles are Playboy magazines (quite anarchistic, they weren't published until 1953).

Oh, yeah, and there's the anarchism. Most of the 1951 cars and music came later in that decade. But I could be here all day.

Personally, Vito was an idiot because he hung out with Joe, who was a massive slob and an idiot. In fact, he barely actually did anything without Joe. He just followed him blindly.

There is something bro ship. He know Joe since his childhood and stood up for him. They did sh*t together. Personally it is Henry who is an idiot.

When you meet Joe at his apartment for the first time, he's in his underwear with two whores making wanking gestures at his land lady.

F*ck friendship, I'd have run a mile. Vito should have ditched him as soon as possible, hanging out with that slob was bound to make trouble. Not to mention he caused all the problem by killing the chinks (Chinese) at the end.

^ You forgot the chinks AceRay.

But you're right, very well observed. You have to know, I haven't played Mafia I. So I can't compare it to Mafia II.

I bought Mafia II because of good critics and I wanted a similar game to GRAND THEFT AUTO.

So, as the casual player I really enjoy this game.

But I see where you're coming from, Vito doesn't seem to care. Things don't really affect him and if they do, it's like only for a moment...f.e. Henry's death, getting to know Derek and Steve murdered vito's father, death of Vito's Ma, Frankie's visit, etc..

And a lot of stereotypes, that's true. Even how they're portryed, look at the character/ped models for the coloured people, women or the chinese ones...

This screenshots tell us that they had a different ending in mind Probably Vito killing everyone in the car.

I love the level of realism in this game, in terms of law enforcement. Last night, I was low on ammo and wanted to visit a gun shop. Inside, the shopkeeper was talking to a police officer. I almost crapped my pants! He was telling that his shop was robbed last night. He described the suspect, which matched me. But then he told to the cop that the robber looked like me, only with different clothes. Bip, bap, bam, I have a 3 star wanted level.

Happened in Joe's Adventures by the way.

In case nobody played Mafia 1, I'm starting a storyline playthrough, which means I won't show all the boring sh*t, just the stuff that's important to the story, it'll be like a movie, I've uploaded the first two parts if people wish to see it (obviously the video will contain spoilers):

Tommy Angelo has a good transcribed audio by the way

I would buy Mafia 1 remade in Mafia 2 engine. That would be the best game ever in my opinion. It would sell like hotcakes.

Hard to edit all the text out and cutting stuff out all the time.

Here's the next part:

I imagine. You did an amazing job capturing everything the game is about. icon14.gif

Next part, took quite long to play because I died fifty times in a row, or more, then the editing took even longer because there was a lot of driving around, walking and shooting which I didn't want to play a too big role:

Hate to bump this old topic but..

I'm thinking about buying this game, I absolutely f*cking loved Mafia. I loved the story more than any other game I've ever played, it's that good. Is the second as good if not better? I've played the demo and had hell of a fun time doing it.

The story sucks, full of bland characters, boring twists but the worst thing is the pacing. You'll spend most of the game driving across the map, stacking crates, have a crappy fistfight, driving across the map, stacking crates and then maybe a gunfight if you're lucky.

But, it depends how much you're paying, as the actual gunfights (as rare as they are) are pretty good. If you're spending $20 (NZ) on it, like I did, I'd buy it.

It's one of my favorite games of this generation. I thought it was nearly flawless in all aspects. Make sure and buy the edition with all of the dlc.

Mafia 2 is worth buying indeed. Just be sure that it's like a good movie, you can watch it, maybe one more time to pay attention to details and again once more...but then you will have enough of it (for some time).

I got my copy in late 2010, played it over 2-3 times. I haven't touched the game in a year since then. In late 2011 I put it back in, got myself some missing trophies and dlcs, but now it's over again.

The game is a good one, but right now I've got no ambition to watch it/play it over again.

Bought it, played through it. I thought the story line was great, as always. The ending? Meh, but still leaves questions for another game. I am fairly disappointed that there's no free roam mode, as there was in Mafia 1. I mean come on, only able to save at the end of a chapter between missions? Lame. Also very disappointed that there is so much of the map that you can't explore

http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/47...ur-location.jpg

That 2 mile long trail on the west side of the map that leads to a seemingly huge/cool building? Can't go there.

All those other roads to the west which is seemingly another huge detailed part of the city, I'll drive there and check it out.. oh nope, can't go there either. Like seriously, wtf?

Oh well, still a decent game.

Would probably be still playing it today if they had some kind of free roam going on. Haven't touched it since finishing the story, which is a shame. Might have t have another blast through the story for fun biggrin.gif

I have to admit, I think Rockstar would have had success had they put out Mafia with GTA controls, and just make it more open world, That seemed to be lacking from L.A. Noire, so I think the setting can be revisited, lets hope

No, this game sucked because its a story driven game with a cliched, dull story and horrible, horrible pacing! Read this post I made:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...st&p=1061025593

However, the game's good shooting combat and great map gives the game potential. Funny word that, 'potential'. I often hear that word to discribe a game that was disappointing. Civ V, LAN, Spore etc.
