batik89 just PMed me a few days ago about an Indonesian forums that has many exclusive news for Mafia II.

http://www.gamexeon.com/forum/gamefans-cor...html#post410003

Maybe some of you guys cannot understand it, because almost all of them are written in Indonesian. But in that topic you can see many exclusive infos that don't exist anywhere in the web. wink.gif Gonna translate it soon.

Here is the translation(infos from the first page):

  • There will be 3 Mafia families
  • There will be 3 story endings
  • The total cutscenes length is 2 hours
  • Mafia II's story won't be directly connected with the story in the first Mafia, so you don't have to play Mafia I to understand the storyline of Mafia II
  • In certain points we will have to choose how the story will go on (similar like in GTA IV)
  • The story will start before the second world war ends, where Vito has just gotten home from his duty in Europe
  • The plot will take in Empire City. Empire City is 10 km2, twice as large as Lost Heaven in Mafia 1 and is mainly inspired from San Fransisco.
  • The colour style looks very retro, reminds us with Bioshock. tounge.gif
  • The taxi can be used to transport within the Empire City (similar like in GTA IV)
  • Cars can be damaged, dirty, or even blows up if it's shot directly at the gas tank (simliar like in the GTA series)
  • Car plates can be costumisized
  • When we stop at the gas station, we can also wash our car to get rid of those dirt besides just filling our car's gas tank
  • NPCs will act more natural, like smoking, reading newspapers, waiting at the bus stop, etc.
  • During a police chase, the cop won't be focused to arrest us, but will also chase our friends
  • The cops will ask for backup only if we did a serious crime
  • With money we can buy clothes to lose our trails or visiting restaurants to buy food to regain the player's health (similiar like in GTA SA)
  • We can buy safehouses
  • While buying snacks (hotdog for example) the player can't be attacked
  • We can do missions for our family's enemy or we can do missions to fight that enemy
  • Sidequests and sidemissions will exist
  • HUD-less view. There won't be anything on our hud
  • we can go to the gym to learn new fighting techniques and new combos (similar like in GTA SA)
  • There will be a cover system similar to Gears of War
  • Bullets can infiltrate wooden doors
  • The consoles version will be released first, the PC version will be released weeks or months later sad.gif
  • There is no exact release date for this game but it will most likey be released in November 2008-October 2009, based on the company's fiscal year (2009)
Maybe some infos have been posted before, I just can't be bothered to check all two topics at once. tounge.gif Sorry for double post.

edit: The Mafia families names are Valconi, Vinci, and Clemente. Credits to Treadstone 71.

Except the fact the PC misses out to begin with, I think it stinks confused.gif

Yeah, what the hell is up with that? I just hope that the PC version won't be watered down. It's not fair that people with advanced computers don't get to use them.

"November 2008-October 2009" <-- Ya...

I forgot to mention that Mafia II will use the custom made Illusion Engine, made specially for Mafia II. The engine is named after the developer's previous name, Illusion Softworks (it's now changed to 2K Czech).

They probably want to milk those console users who can't wait and must play the game first no matter what. Then, a couple of months later, we get the good ol' PC version. It's Mafia 2. I waited years for this, I could wait a few months more for a PC version.

I also read this game is going to be DirectX 10 ONLY so if you have Xp you either need to upgrade or don't buy it. It's bad we can't just all play this game but because it's dx10 only it will probably be optimised for it instead of giving a dx9 game a dx10 layer. But now I've heard this I'm not sure if I should upgrade my PC at this moment because I want to play Mafia II with better graphics than GTA IV has on my machine (low-medium 800*600 at 25-35fps).

I find that hard to believe, most games that are Dx10 also have a DX9 mode and while their are rare exceptions like Halo 2 and the "if-it-ever-comes-out" Alan Wake I don't think Mafia would be one of them since MS has no connection to the game. As good as the game looks it doesn't scream that it could only be achieved on DX10, and besides its hitting the consoles as well. No DX10 there!

My thoughts exactly. No dx10 on consoles, so why would they go through all the trouble of making a PC game that only supports dx10? Seems like a waste of time to me. And time is money.

Since the PC Version section is now filled with twats now I'll stick here much longer. turn.gif

The Illusion Engine will also feature a GTA IV-like cover system. Just get your PC ready, the polycounts for every single model in game is like 2-3 times more than GTA IV...

Source for that info would be great since that sounds pretty unbelievable considering they have to be able to run in on consoles with steady framerate.

I don't know the exact poly amount, but the in game models are obviously more detailed than GTA IV.

And yes, it IS playable on console, I remember I read somewhere that a gaming magazine has already tested the demo on PS3, and they said it's awesome.
