the little touches in this game are awesome i walked out of my house to find 2 women talking about getting a bigger house and mortgage repayments moaning about there husbands, the other lady then started going on about how men dont understand and he never brought me diamonds on our annivesery perhaps we should be lesbians! then 2 cars crashed and took there attention away i wonder where the convo was going after that!

Considering they we're done in 1080p on all three different platforms

Just downloaded the demo earlier today and first impressions are pretty good. Overall the game is great from what I've seen and definitely has that mafia feel to it.

A few things however that I have noticed and sure hope are fixed or already have been fixed for release include:

 

-Some of the AI is pretty stupid, especially the cops in some scenarios. For example I went in to a diner and shot up the place before exiting and waiting for the cops. They stop in the middle of the road and just sit in the car doing nothing. Another time there was a dead body on the footpath, the cop pull up down the road and walk to the scene, only to turn around and drive off.

 

-At one stage I saw about 15 guys in a row with the same model

 

-Initiating actions can sometimes be a bit awkward and jittery

 

-One thing that does annoy me is the inability to jump, and even while running not being able to vault over obstacles easy

 

I'm really liking the detail though, from turning on taps to getting your shoes shined, it really adds to the realism. I was near a baseball stadium and heard a lot of cheering, however I'm not sure if you can enter the stadium, although the majority of it was in a restricted area.

 

That's just some of my thoughts, but overall I am really looking forward to the release date.

 

Oh ye, one other thing. I had like 10 beers at the diner, which blurred the vision a little bit, but i was hoping for the GTAIV drunkenness where you stumble over and struggle to drive. In mafia, Vito can still run and walk the same (don't know about driving) so I really don't see the point of it.

Sorry I should've added that I'm playing on ps3, i think X is the equivalent and it does work...but in general it can be a little annoying not being able to jump freely.

I think he's aware of that, but not being able to jump without being right next to an obstacle the game deems worthy (and safe) to climb, is a bit silly. For example, if you climb a set of stairs, you can't vault over the railing if you're so high up that you'll die from the landing.

 

The way you're restricted from the water is also a bit silly. Invisible walls? Come on. When you drive a car into the water, you're just teleported back up to the shore, no harm done (except for losing your car, of course).

Fix for bad APEX performance (works very well, I get a steady 35+ until sh*t hits the fan and it drops below 10)

I got APEX to work on my ATI without losing a single frame. I just deleted the effects folder and all of the unnecessary APEX files. Now Vito has full APEX and game still runs smooth as before. Nvidia fails lol

Care to help a ATI brother out? So you delete the effects folder but what other files do I need to remove?

 

Great demo, really got a kick out of it all for the same reasons as most of you folk so consider it bought!

You don't delete the 'Effects' folder , that's for the particles which mainly you really want to have.

 

You delete all of the files except the ones beginning with 'VIT', 'm2skeleton', and 'ClothRemapTable'

 

Do not remove these either:

'VITPRA_VIRPRA'

'VITVOV_VITVOV'

 

These are also files for Vito, they make the jacket move.

Actually those particles from effects folder are also responsible for huge FPS drops. I tried playing with effects and in that demo mission my FPS went from 75 to 16. Effects are nothing special. There is just more of them and you don't even notice it during gunfights. The only thing you do notice is a huge fps drop.

I'm thinking the worlds and characters of Mafia and Mafia 2 are defo connected. Would be ace if you could go back to the old city but that would be too good to be true...

Does anyone here feel that the NPC's and Cops need more work? I bribed cops 3 times now, and everytime (even on the highway) they just walk along after staring into your eyes for about 4 seconds.

I shot a woman infront of them, they started shooting me, ten i swapped from pistol to fists, and they walked to me, i bribed them an they just went off. Still, AI ain't a big deal here, like someone said, mafia is about missions, story, etc.

 

But still annoying you can't jump or swim.

Does anyone know if there will be planes in this game? I always see what looks like a Douglas DC-3 flying in the air as I am driving around aimlessly and there seems to be an airport-like zone on the right of the map. That plane was the Airbus A380 of the 1930s.
