At the risk of sounding like a moron, what does "vorher" and "nachher" mean?

I don't know the language too much, but I think it's "before" and "after".

Holy hell this game looks epic.

Agreed. And with no hype surrounding it, I don't think there'll be many dissappointed people like with IV.

Yeah probably a wrong choice of words. More: a relative lack of trailer/screenshots and publicity. The game is lurking in the shadows, compared to R*s goliath publicity.

Actually with IV their lack of info is what hurt the game imo. With both VC and SA, R* were releasing alot of info while with IV they weren't releasing as much and that's where the internet rumors started coming from and R* speaking on things that didn't end up in the game.

Anyways I don't really think Mafia II will be some mega hit. I think it'll sell 2 or 3 million possibly but I don't think many outside of the original Mafia's fanbase are thinking about the game or even know about it. As with GTA everyone knew about it after III.

Yeah, because GTA IV's graphics were soooo good.

They were much more superb than most other open-world games.

I think was will hurt Mafia II is that it will be too story driven. (There aren't even day-night cycles)

That's what Mafia has been all about since the first one came out. Story. Story. Story.

I forgot about the dodgy graphics, poor handling of the cars, and limited supply of weapons by the great story the game told.

STFU about graphics already. People that are complaining about graphics are ruining games.

Doesn't make it any better. Looks like 2004, IMO.

Mafia is about the story. It could definitely benefit from being free roam, having day/night, but if it isn't who cares - it'll still be awesome.

EDIT: @above, Mafia had great graphics for its time, hell even today it looks fairly good and the car handling was better than in III canon GTA games.

Read a feature on Mafia 2 in PSW magazine and I've got to say I am hyped for this. It looks like the world they've made is going to be truly immersible and you really will get the feel of being a mafia mobman.

Really looking foward to it. icon14.gif

He probably played the console version, and as I have heard it that version had poorer car handling and of course worse graphics.

I played both. In terms of everything- physics, graphics, controls, everything- the PC version shat all over the PS2 version.

Will there be a demo?

Here's everything I could find(Some may not relate)

Although I cannot give away any information or estimates at the moment, you have to keep in mind that the same game utilising the same engine runs on both of the consoles... and you know that those machines are multicore. I believe you can draw some conclusions from that

I still hate when people call the days and events in life of Vito "missions". You see, there is the difference between Mafia II and other city-roaming games: we do try to tell one big coherent realistic story and anything that happens has to be an organic part of that. Even optional events fit the story smoothly and make a difference in your situation later on.

And as far as Mafia I is concerned I still believe that at its time it was one of the best looking games, period

Oh thank god it's not like GTA!

Streetrace - I cannot confirm or deny anything now, but it would surely make sense to make use of the great cars in the game in more ways than just transport.

Weight of the cars - you can absolutely definitely bet that there will be very realistic physics simulation tied to the cars. And as hinted before, there could be a way to set the behavior of the driving to suit both more and less skilled players.

Details - I think that the current consoles still have a lot of unused potential. Just look at some of the games out there and you have to agree that there is not too much that can be upped for PC (aside from resolution). However these things are still work-in-progress on Mafia II.

Dead people - we are still playing with our physics and optimalisation there so you have to wait a little bit more for that answer to come.

I can´t believe this thread

Anyway obvisouly you can switch on/off the lights, but keep in mind that for example cops usualy carry both gun and a flashlight

P.S. I am glad someone noticed "the great thing"

Damage on cars - our models are very detailed and enhanced by proper physics simulation. You can even notice things like opening doors because the lock was shot or tires bursting because of fire.

City usage - we do try to guide the player much more into the various corners of the city to explore, especially on some of the sub-quests.

Outskirts - we do have outskirts area of the city which feel very different and provide some quite unique experiences.

Blood - we are still working on the special effects and we do have our plans for improving the blood effects.

Demo - I cannot confirm or deny anything at this point, but I would say that it would make sense to have it sometime down the road.

those are great looking car models icon14.gif

this game, basing on the gameplay videos and screenies, looks like this game is going to be great. This may be the greastest mafia type game ever storywise.

Personally, I had no problem with the first Mafia on the console but then again I never played the PC version. The only thing I hated about the game was the cop pursuit of you if you even ran a red light. I feel that the story was very well-written, the characters were interesting, the "scenes" and gameplay was excellent. Although I love the open-world environment that the Grand Theft Auto franchise has brought to video games, I also love story-driven games. It doesn't even matter if it's just a linear story where you don't explore the city around you, or you can't have mini-games in the sprawling metropolis, the story and the environment sticks out so much. I felt much more immersed in the world of Mafia than in some of the Grand Theft Auto games. Because the story-driven aspect makes it more like a movie than you just running around in an open environment where you can create your character (GTA: San Andreas) how you would like him to be. For some parts of the game, I didn't get the feeling that I was a gangbanger in the city of Los Santos, I felt distant from that at certain points in the game.

Oh man these pictures are sweet. Might have to reinstall the original Mafia and give it a blast.

Loving the reflections in the cars.
