Nothing Can Stop You

Backed up against the cell wall I feared for my life. Four guards entered the room, all pointing their machine guns at me. “Accidental” deaths were not uncommon in this prison. South American justice systems were not generally acknowledged for their fairness. The guards could do whatever they wanted to me, they knew it. My word against theirs? Assuming that anybody would care what they did to me. The man at the back was huge; three smaller men accompanied him. I’m sure that one on one I could take any of the three, but the fourth guard was huge. Whether or not death awaited me I didn’t know, I just hoped that the big man would knock me out quickly so that I didn’t feel anything.

The cocky looking guard at the front held the bayonet inches from my throat. He said something in his language, which I could not understand. The rest of the men laughed, the one at the front gave me the impression that he was asking me a question.

He repeated what he had jus said… the rest of them were still laughing.

“I don’t understand.” I quietly said to him. My whole body was tensed, waiting for the first blow.

“ I don’t understand.” The man imitated back in his thick accent, they laughed even harder at this. He smiled, a shimmer of hope glistened in my heart, as quickly as it came, it vanished. The guard slapped me across my mouth. I turned back to him, looking in to his dark beady eyes for mercy, but it did not come. The other small man to his left struck the side of my head with the butt of his gun. I felt my ear pop and me jaw break. As I fell to my right the third guard grabbed me by the jaw. I looked up at his sweaty face; he seemed to be deciding the best place to punch me. After two seconds of deliberation he decided that my left eye was the best spot. My head bounced off the stonewall and I slumped to the floor.

The left side of my face was on fire, I couldn’t see out of the eye, many hands gripped me and I was stood up and slammed against the wall. They were all punching me now, I keeled over, facing the floor, with my hands over my face. I felt heavy blows to the back of my head and to the sides of my ribs. The worst pain was the huge leg that kept kicking upwards in to my throat and chest. After around a minute a bone crunching elbow landed right in to the centre of my back. The wind was knocked out of me, my hands dropped and my face went upwards gasping for air. Looking forwards, I had a glimpse of the huge man running towards me. He drove the biggest foot I had ever seen right in to my face. The pain was unbelievable; I felt my front teeth ripped from my gums. My nose snapped like a twig and the crack echoed around my skull like a gunshot. I went flying backwards and my head smashed against the wall. Slowly I slipped down it leaving a trail of blood. I stayed conscious long enough to hear the large guard urinating in to my food.

That night was one of the worst by far, worse than when the bayonet had slashed my shoulder. My head throbbed all night, it swelled and bled and ached. I drifted in and out of consciousness and threw up every few hours until I couldn’t anymore. Finally after what seemed like days sunlight entered my cell. I lay in a pool of my own blood and vomit. The guards slowly patrolled, laughing at me… I did not change the expression on my face and simply stared at them.

After a few hours the small cocky man approached my cell, he was holding my breakfast. He opened the cage door and I lay on my back staring at him. He smiled, bearing his yellow teeth and shouted something in his language. Laughter could be heard further down the corridor from the other guards. I assumed the man had said something along the lines of “I wouldn’t eat that if I were you.” He then threw the tin saucer at my head, spilling its contents everywhere. He laughed to himself as he locked the cage door behind him. I stared down at the porridge splattered all over the blood stained floor. The small man’s hysterical laughter was still echoing down the corridor. I felt rage like I have never felt before. I had never considered it possibly to break out, but now I decided that I had nothing to lose but everything to gain. I stood up and walked towards the thick bars. If I could get out and steal a gun, I could either escape or die in a hail of bullets. Both seemed appealing, as long as I killed as many guards as possible.

The rusty bars were freezing cold. How could I get out? Maybe next time the small man brought in food I cold over power him? But he had a gun. If I could just get out and take a gun then I would be unstoppable. The only thing that prevented me was these solid bars. I wasn’t strong enough to break them off. I imagined myself snapping the bars like twigs and laughed to myself for the first time in months. I stared at the bars for what seemed like hours, when it finally hit me. They were thin pieces of metal that were keeping me here. Clutching the bars I rid my mind of all doubt. I can do this… I told myself. They were nothing to me... I can do it! Mind over matter! Nothing will prevent me from escaping here… I tried and tried to pull apart the bars but they stayed firmly in place. You can’t bend metal! Why not? What is stopping me? Doubt in your head? Rid your mind of all doubt and force your body to co-operate!

Like rope I bent the bars sideways, I could not believe it myself. I had done it; I had created a huge gap in the bar. I felt like a god, looking down at my own hands I flexed my fingers. What can stop me? Nothing can stop me; I can do whatever I want!

The guard was returning. I stood in my cell in front of the gap. He walked past ignoring me, not noticing. I whistled and he turned in my direction. His eyes met mine and I motioned to the new gap that I had made. He looked like he had seen a ghost; like a cobra I struck, grabbing him by his head and dragging him through the gap. As if he was a baby I took the gun off him. Backed against the bars he covered his face with his hands. I felt rage like I had never felt before... I jammed the bayonet through his belly, he screamed and screamed and I rammed it in and out, spilling his guts all over the floor. Then I backed up and fired what felt like hundreds of bullets into every bit of his body that I could see.

He fell to the floor in pieces, a grin of satisfaction spread across my face. Slowly I stepped through the bars in to the corridor. As expected down the corridor guards swarmed in a group pointing guns at me. As I turned to them they were all shaking, hesitating. I still felt like a god, for a moment I glared at their disbelieved faces, then I pulled up my gun and opened fire. Bullets bounced off the walls and shattered their bodies like glass. The corridor was cleared in seconds; guards lay splattered across the floor.

I can do anything I want, nothing can stop me…

As I strutted down the corridor other prisoners glared at me, their eyes wide with shock. The door at the end was my way out. It was a security door surrounded by cameras and concrete. I imagined on the other side, the guards looking at the monitors, arming themselves to the teeth. I fired at the door the bullets merely bounced off of it, making sparks and small dents. As I approached the door I wondered how to get through. But then it dawned on me… You can do whatever you want; it’s only a door… stop making excuses… You imagine yourself doing these things but you don’t have the balls to do it… Nothing can stop you… Physics means nothing, if you want you can beat that…

I walked towards the door... took a deep breath and punched it… with no doubt in my mind... my fist went straight through like it was a sand castle. I brought my hand back out and then kicked the door. It flew backwards, ripping concrete off the surrounding wall with it. I was met with the big guard; he was aiming a huge machine gun right at me. Before I had time to raise mine he fired a burst of shots. The bullets hit me like hot swords. I took a few steps backwards; looking down, my belly and chest were bleeding heavily. I felt light headed and the life was being sucked out of me. I could feel my organs failing and my heart stopping.

But then a voice inside my head spoke… You are not going to die… stop bleeding now! Stop the blood escaping your body… tell your heart to keep beating… tell yourself to keep breathing… small pieces of metal cannot stop you…

I glanced down and the bleeding had stopped. I looked up at the huge man. Shock and disbelief were painted across his face. But then it turned back to the more familiar look of anger. He unloaded his gun at me; bullets flew towards me as the noise of the blast echoed around the room. However this time I decided that these bullets were not going to pierce my skin, I was too strong for them and I didn’t have to let them enter my body. The huge man screamed out loud. The bullets just bounced off my chest like I was a tank. I dropped my gun to the floor and gripped the man. He screamed like a child as I broke his bones as if he was a snowman. Finally he lay on the ground lifeless. I did not need the gun now, nothing could stop me.

I did not know the way out; I had been confined to my cell for months.

You idiot! These walls are preventing your escape? I said to myself. Like a bull I charged at the wall, it crumpled like Lego against my body. I felt like a new man… not a man… a god! I stepped in to the sunlight. To my left was a huge canyon; a waterfall fell down the steep rocks in to the raging river below. To my right was the dirt road next to the compound. Beyond that was just the vast jungle.

For a few moments I stood in silence, basking in my own brilliance. The quiet was only broken by the sounds of exotic birds.

Eventually, as expected the police arrived. Their sirens could be heard miles away. I waited for them; they were no match for me. When they arrived they shouted foreign abuse and insults while pointing their guns. I assumed that the broken wall would be enough to scare them off… evidently I was wrong.

A policeman at the front slowly and calmly shouted what sounded like a countdown. I held up my hand to silence him and walked towards them, I was going to attempt to walk through them and off in to the jungle. As I took a few feet forward the policeman finished his countdown, then hesitantly he gave the order to the several men that had arrived in the two cars. This time I wasn’t going to let the bullets hit me, I focused on them, and watched them approach. Like flies I swatted them and they fell to the floor. The men stood there, shaking. I dug my hands in to the ground and in one swift movement, pulled it upwards like a carpet. As if an earthquake had erupted, the ground went up were the officers stood, and like the crack of a whip I ripped the ground that was twenty feet away from under their feet.

The windows on the car shattered and the men flew at least ten feet in to the air. More sirens approached, I walked on to the road. With one finger I picked up the car, magnificently I rotated it on my hand and then faced the oncoming police squad. Like a pillow I launched the car forwards, it hurtled through the air and collided with the speeding vehicle. A satisfying collection off smashes surrounded the air. The cars flipped and swerved.

I could hear the hum of a loud engine slowing down behind me. A fuel tanker slowed to a stop. An innocent man stared at me from the cab. I shouted, “Get out!” at him but he just sat there whimpering with his hands up. I picked up the front of the truck with my hands and tilted it sideways. The man was pinned against his left door; he opened it and ran in to the jungle screaming. I turned to the prison and grinned. That’s it! You take it down!

I hurtled the truck towards the disgusting building that had held me prisoner for months. The huge tanker crushed the perimeter fence as it flew through the air, rotating like a boomerang, clinging on by a hinge to the truck. Then it flattened the wall and erupted. The fireball swept over the prison like a carpet. Engulfing the remaining guards and inmates. I felt no sympathy what so ever, I was beyond pity now. I stood casually in the sun for a few moments and watched the blaze bring down the building.

Let it burn in hell… I told myself. After all them thoughts I had never decided what to do once I had escaped, for a while I considered it in my thoughts.

Mind over matter… nothing can stop you… you can do anything you want…

I looked upwards in to the morning sky. Like a rocket I took off and flew upwards through the air, faster than light… in to the stratosphere.

That was a dope ass story. I liked the part where he realized his powers, you also do a real good job of describing the beating, and just your descriptions in general are really cool. This was a fantastic read, I also thought about the TV show Heroes once you said dude flew off. I like that show and I like this story and I am rambling so... icon14.gifcookie.gificon14.gif
