yeah, I agree with gishrichb wink.giftounge2.gif the barriers are gone but the player still gets the appropriate 4-star wanted level & it won't effect getting to 100%

I suspect we will be hearing about the barrier glitch again when radioman gets to LV and discovers that his barriers are back in place. I forget who has which version, radioman has a pure v2 installation, right? Is it just radioman with the barrier glitch, or do other v2 players have the same problem? And as long as we are talking about glitches: radioman, can you restart the Pimping mission on the current save? Also, can other v2 players restart Pimping, or pass the mission with an earlier save and not cause a glitch for other players.

I'm wondering if it makes a difference whether or not the save was created with a v1 game using v2 scripts, or a pure v2 installation. If the custom save and round 17 save were both created with v1 w/v2 scripts, then perhaps we should recruit someone to contribute some pure v2 saves before Green Sabre and Yay Ka-Boom Boom so we can run a few tests. Does anyone know where we might find some saves known to be pure v2?

The reason for my concern is that I'm hoping to create a new custom starter save, but don't want to introduce the same glitches since I'm using v2 scripts. Also, I have an idea for fixing the glitch. radioman, see if the barriers are behaving properly on this <Barrier Toggle Save>. This save is not intended for the chain game; it's only for a test.

I'll re-download the save and take the next mission without any edits.

The way it works is that If a V2 player does The Green Sabre the baricades become unlocked for them and in the future when they upload the game the baricades won't be there. But for a V1 player after the mission, The Green Sabre the baricades will still be there for the rest of the game.

It is all V2 players that cause this glitch. As for these new players I dont know but I know radioman and I (ryan92) have pure V2.

I'll do one ....

Don't know if it helps clear up the issue, but I had a SnP request where I noticed that there was no barriers:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=290915

That is supposedly a native V2 save, but when played on V1 with V2 scripts there's no barriers.

Anyway

Notes:

Failed the mission once to obtain the Explosionproof Mothership (Camper), it can also be exported on the first Exports & Imports List; I stored it in the Hashbury garage. It may lose it’s unique paint style.

Also, the mission took away the minigun, I forgot to get another one.

The Hashbury, Calton Heights, and Paradiso Safe houses have been purchased

I collected a few more vehicles for Exports & Imports, they’re all located in the different San Fierro garages; some were modded just for fun.

Dirt Track completed, 1st place, $25000

Barrier Glitch Testing

I've managed to isolate the flags that are suppose to be responsible for the barriers. Is there any chance I can talk a v2 native player into checking the bridges on 3 of these saves, and possibly even completing The Green Sabre and Yay Ka-Boom Boom? I know it's a lot to ask, but I don't have any method of checking this stuff myself. Perhaps v2 native players can share the load or contribute a little over time. The load locations were changed to Blueberry so CJ would be close to the barriers of the Martin, Panopticon, or Fallen Tree bridges, but you'll need to snag your own transportation. I've used the savegame editor to force certain barrier settings before the required mission for these tests.

<Big Smoke 01 01>

This is a variation on the custom save used by the chain game. Both barrier flags are set to 1, which is normal for games started with v1 w/v2 scripts; both barriers are present for v1/v2 players. Do v2 native players see any barriers at all?

<Reuniting the Families 00 00>

This appears to be the initial barrier settings for v2 native games. I don't have any examples of what happens when a v2 player completes The Green Sabre with these flags. These settings are the same as End of the Line for v1/v2 players when no barriers are present.

<The Green Sabre 00 01>

This is a normal chain game save completed by a v1/v2 player. V1/v2 players see barriers only at LV, v2 native players see no barriers at all. We've been over this before so it doesn't need to be checked again.

<Toreno's Last Flight 01 00>

This is the only other barrier option available unless there are other variables in addition to these flags. The savegame editor seems to think these two flags are the only difference, but I'm not so sure. V1/v2 players see barriers to SF but not LV; a setting I would not expect to see in a normal game.

My hypothesis is that there is something different in the executable that flags the barriers differently. Since v2 native players seem to start at 00 00, and make no change to either Green Sabre when the flags are 01 01, or on Yay Ka-Boom Boom when set to 00 01, my thought is a v2 native game wants to set the flags to xx 01 after Green Sabre, and 01 xx after Yay Ka-Boom Boom. This would imply that v2 native players would see no barriers on Big Smoke 01 01.

However, I find it odd that v2 players see no barriers between LS and SF on Green Sabre 00 01, so perhaps 01 00 is for LV barriers only, and both 00 00 and 01 01 display both barriers. This seems a rather odd way of programming this function, but how else could 00 01 disable both barriers for v2 native players? But more to the point is how v2 native players can start a new game with 00 00, and still finish a chain game with 00 00, and not notice that the barriers are completely scrambled over multiple chain games.

What else can it be? Is there something different about how SnP converts the ids? Someone mentioned deleting gta_sa.set to fix a glitch, but I can't find the reference; did that do something to the barriers?

The gta_sa.set file stores the settings of the game for a particular user. I don't think this file has anything to do with the barriers.

Your hypothesis on flags sound interesting and might be possible but I'm still confused.

That's what I said about the .set file but then someone tried a new one and something got better, but I don't remember what. I tried downloading a bunch of v2 SnP requests and none of them had any of the barrier flags set. Either everyone cheats and disables the barriers, or v2 native handles the flags in a completely different manner. Still, I'm sure these flags control the barriers properly on v1/v2 games, and v2 native must recognize them somehow, but it's really difficult to track minor changes after missions, so I'm not sure I can narrow it down any further unless new data comes in from the test saves.

Sorry, it is not my intention to clutter this topic with editing discussions. I'd take a mission to get us back on track but I'm still on restriction.

Thanks ryan92, however, I'm starting to think I'm way off track on my predictions of how v2 native tracks the barriers. Still, a peek at a couple of saves from a reliable player will clear up a few questions.

@OrionSR, I'll try the 2 links of the green sabre and ya ka boom boom for you as a V2 player.

Edit: Both saves("the green sabre" and "Toreno's Last Flight") had no barriers on the bridges to Las Vegas and Nevada. and no barriers to LA.

btw, I like those saves, because of all the ammo you left for all the weapons.

Also, sorry again Girishb about misspelling your name.

@JAJ, since the driving school is a "named" mission, and thus changes the save name when finished, can you do that plus a named mission or does the school count as the mission for that turn? And where is the rocket launcher pick ups at, I can't seem to find any-the normal ones and the ones added for the chain game?-I was just wondering, as I was trying to find one in the PS2 version.

I think you have to call driving school seperately. Though there have been instances in the past where a few tests were already completed without finishing off the school. What was remaining was getting gold. So, if you're gonna call it, be sure to get all golds.

For the rocket launcher, have a look at this map.

The special vehicle and weapons spawn map is on the first page. Didin't you find the special weapons?

Also, for those who don't know this: you can do Boat School and not get a wanted level (except for the last test which originates from a 4-Star area), provided that you approach the school from the water, whether you swim, fly, or take a boat. Most of Bayside Marina is 4-Star exempt from the very beginning of the game, including the Helipad where a Maverick or Seasparrow will usually spawn.

After the last test, the wanted level acquired from that test will disappear.

Girishb is correct(thanks); Back to School & Learning to Fly are 'named' missions & count as a turn. Boat School & Bike School are not named missions & can be done with a 'named' mission.

You should be able to find the rocket launcher pick-ups with the maps Girishb provided & the map on the first post (thanks again). Note that the ones in LS are on top of a building near Glen Park. <The Sam Java map is good too.>

Cool, that was fast.

The checklist can be handy, but the best way to check on the status of missions and events is to use the San Andreas Mission Analyzer, SAMA, linked in the first post under Maps for Collectibles. It can't tell you how many trucking or quarry missions are complete, but does list when all 8 are done. It's really a great tool and makes it easy to check mission progress, side-mission status, races and events, hidden items, and even jumps found or completed.

Anyway, I'll take a turn before someone else gets in before me as I'm composing.
