lambo128
Sorry, this sounds really stupid, but I want to know...
nlitement
Apologies for acting like an ass.. damn. Predator? Why do you ask? No, your exact location is impossible to locate. The majority of ISPs set a PTR record for your IP which usually ends in your TLD country code (and if they don't, then it's nearly impossible to determine the country of origin). For example, my IP will resolve to something like 33443-blabla-hki.inet.fi. That's as accurate as it gets. Only the ISP's logs can tell which customer occupied an IP at a certain time, that'd need a court order. If you genuinely think someone's after you, you could use Tor. K^2
Technically, it is true. Not just about YouTube. You are not anonymous on the internet. You leave your IP address on every jump. The question is retrieving it, and then using it to find your physical location. Neither is exactly trivial. I have a few tricks up my sleve that would let me get your IP address. I'll be able to use that to get the city you live in and your ISP. But your actual address? Only ISP will have that, and getting address from ISP is tricky. Different ISPs will have different policies. Some can be tricked into revealing your address, some can't. Some can be hacked, most not so easily. It all depends, but in general, none of it is impossible, but a lot is difficult. Unless a serious hacker wants to find you, they probably won't. In short, don't worry about YouTube specifically, but be careful out there. There are serious pitfalls. Most people who are found on the net make the mistake of giving out too much info. Drop a city here, zip there, phone number somewhere else. It adds up for someone who knows how to search. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
