Jordan
You don't sound like someone needing a camera with three chips, and you certainly don't sound like someone that needs HD. First off, get one where tape is the format, not discs. It's just more reliable. Sure, discs can work fine, but miniDV tapes are...well...just get one with tapes already! Second, go with Sony. I've owned Sony cameras all of my life, and they have all been very reliable. When it comes to the camera side of Sony, they are very reliable. Third, don't get a camera because of the amount of digital zoom. 800x digital zoom doesn't mean sh*t. You want a nice amount of optical zoom. Optical zoom is when the camera physically zooms. Digital zoom is when the camera electronically (not mechanically) zooms in to an image, making the quality suck. Optical zoom matters...not digital zoom. Fourth, it is nice to have a camera with the option in the menu to turn off auto-shut-off. Some consumer cameras shut off after five minutes of not being used, and there is no option to turn this annoying thing off in some of these cameras. Get one where it has the option in the menu. Fifth, check out the warranty that comes with the camera. Sixth, punch the f*cking asshole Best Buy salesman in the face for trying to sell you MONSTER cables. F*ck MONSTER. Seventh, that is all. Cheap and nice, but you may want to buy a bigger battery though. 40 min of rec. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16830145068 Out-O-Stock, since it's so f*cking great. Primer43
I have to agree with Jordan about two things, Sony cameras are very good, and never buy a monster cable. Its funny you mention Best Buy, the idiot in there kept insisting I get a Monster hdmi cable. I bought an 8 foot, $30 GE cable from Target over 4 foot, $100 Monster Cable. I don't see why he would want tape though, but I don't know much about it.
vininfinite
Tapes are good, disks are cheap, but hard drives are everlasting. Edited August 6, 2007 by vininfinite
tapout182
I have to pay $30 for a cable? That's still a lot. Do I absolutely need one?
Primer43
Tapes are good, disks are cheap, but hard drives are everlasting. Not unless they are solid stae. I just had a hard drive dump on me. Knocking like a b*tch. Hard drives can fail discs usually don't. @tapout: No, thats an hdmi cable, for something else.
