aglu19
Hello, I would really appreciate if someone could help me. I just recently bought a brand new GTA SA second edition. During the installation everything was fine. However when I try to play the game, a white screen appears, then another white screen, then the logos and the intro (Rockstar Presents...) which run very well, after the intro comes another white screen, and then the game crashes taking me back to my desktop without any error messages. The game is brand new and there are no mods installed on it. I don't really know what the problem is and would really appreciate any help. My computer information is the following: I have AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 1.92GHz, 480 MB of RAM, ATAPI DVDROM 16X, SONY CD-RW CRX215E5, Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM) I guess it's both sound and video card. I have been able to play vice city without any trouble but I can't play San Andreas. I think it is because vice city can run in 32MB video card while minimum requirement for SA is 64MB video card. I have 32MB video memory but I'm not sure if it is the same as 32 MB video card. Please tell me my problem and any solution or where can I get some upgrades. Girish
Have you tried updating your drivers? OR You could try starting the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode.
aglu19
It doesn't work in Windows 98 but I haven't tried updating any drivers. I still think that my video card is not good enough and the only way I can update it from 32RAM to 64RAM is by buying it.
VCHolmes
95% sure that this is a GPU problem. I had this exact problem on my old PC. What GPU are you using? And yes, you need atleast a 64MB GPU to play San Andreas.
aglu19
What is GPU?
VCHolmes
What is GPU? Graphics Processing Unit or Video Card. I think it is because vice city can run in 32MB video card while minimum requirement for SA is 64MB video card. Even my old PC had a 64MB video memory. But then I had this same problem. Perhaps you could try a graphics emulator such as 3D Analyze. Run it, and then check the option 'Emulate Bump Cap Maps'. If it doesn't work, play around with the settings and try to make it work. Even if it does work, the graphics will be crappy (depending upon how bad your video card is) so play with it only if you're very desperate. Ring_of_Fire
You could also try reinstalling the game and deleting [.set] file.
VCHolmes
@aglu19 what ring_of_fire said was the most common and most overlooked fixes to problems. Do not forget to try them out too. And yes if you still can't make the game run after all this, the best thing to do would be to get a better video card.
