nlitement Posted August 3, 2007 Share Posted August 3, 2007 (edited) Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes that Rockstar has delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto IV because it is struggling with development on the PlayStation 3. And since it's likely that Rockstar had an agreement with Sony not to favour one console over the other, it means they can't release one version and delay the other. "We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognise how far away from completion the game truly was until recently. "We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favour competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version." The game has been delayed until February, March or April of 2008, though hopefully we'll have a more specific date soon. Well, it IS on gta4.net's frontpage but it wasn't apparently posted here. On the contrary, I sort of thought this myself, but at the same token was a bit skeptical. There probably won't be a statement like that, period. No publisher or developer is going to intentionally, publicly, come out and say that another vendor's product sucks. This is just a stupid guy who consider himself an analyst and try to tick people off for a rumor he just created. I do realize there are plenty of things to do besides whine about a single game, but this website is dedicated to that game and it's fans opinions. In the end it will "probably" be for the better but right now it sucks. That was the only game I was really excited for and now I just have to make due. I also understand they had a commitment/contract with Sony but that sucks for us 360 users if our game is delayed because of programming issues with the PS3. Don't reassure us that it will come out on a specific date if you can't deliver, that wouldn't fly in the majority of jobs, and it bums me out that Rockstar does it with nearly every title. I thought it was just fanboy BS. Well the cell processor is totally new to a lot of developers, so for some, it might be hard for them. I own a 360, but I believe the PS3 has the ability to make ungodly games. It's just they take a lil longer to make, and nobody has taken the time to do so. I respect R* for it. A professional analyst working for one of the largest financial and investment firms in the United States. This isn't some blogger sitting in his mother's basement nibbling on cheese doodles. Speculation or not, it's still relevant. And I trust the words of an analyst more than some fruitcup posting on a message board. Also, I'd like to point out that GTA4.NET covers not only official news, but rumors and ideas as well. We just have a decent track record of being on the ball with accurate, informative content. The job of a PR rep is to act as damage control - so when they say it's only a week or two behind, I assume they mean it's more like a month or so behind. You don't want to get investors in a tizzy by telling consumers that the product launch may not go as scheduled, and may not be released in time for the holiday season. I mean, the Wii has had more delays than either the PS3 or Xbox360, but that doesn't mean it is hard to develop with. But anyway, I don't think the delay is to do with that reason, but it is just speculation and rumours. The PR statement could just be a panicked response or the truth. Another possible factor is the people working with each console (not trying to suggest anything here, but it could still be true). EDIT: Looking at the post below me, I'd like to say that it is not always a case of fan-boy-ism. For reasons I'm not going to go into, I can not physically the Xbox360's controller very well, whereas the PS3 I can. So I don't have a choice (although I can't afford either currently). But I used to say that I sometimes favor Xbox 360, because PS3 has absolutley no games. Plus so many people think PS3 is more powerful than 360 in reality, PS3 can generate better visuals, while 360 can generate better physics (eg calculations and sh*t). Well now has come the time to be a fanboy, while releasing my anger of delay of gta iv: Motherf*ckers f*ck the PS3, the worthless piece of sh*t, that is not better than any other consoles, and that is beaten by a little wii, and that has no f*cken games to play, and still costs like it was best of the best. I hope the ps3 makers stick the ps3 controlers up in their assholes, because that is the only way they will have fun with the PS3, because even the best game makers like R* can't make use of this japenis piece of sh*t. The f*cktarded ps3 should be acknowledged as a failure, and be abandoned, the ps brand has had its time, well everything has its own time that comes to end. I say f*ck and i mean f*ck this piece of sh*t, that is causing unnecessary delay of the best game. Rockstar should realize that it is not going to make money off of ps3, because people who own ps3 have probably already bought the 360, like me, because it is waay better, and that they are gonna buy gta iv on xbox 360, because of the downloadable content, and probably because it will make use of euphoria better than the ps3 version. It's unfortunate if Rockstar is locked into a deal requiring them to do simultaneous release. They should be free to do whatever it takes to get the game out on their own terms. The 360 is the lead platform for development, and they have said the PS3 version was falling behind schedule. This isn't fanboy crap, it's the damn truth. Also it might just be Sonys dev kits making it hard but maybe not. Its like if i took a lastgen console back to the 80s and ask the guys at atari to make me a game for it, I doubt it would be an easy thing for them until they got used to it. Plus those dvds mightve been hard to come by. And for the record im not saying the ps3 is 20 years ahead of technology lol. Another thing, xbox uses directx which is what a lot of developers are used to working with. The ps3 uses different hardware. I could really care less about this all though, ill still be picking up a ps3. I can always just get a 360 if things go really really bad for the ps3, but im pretty confident they wont.
