My Favorite would be Portland because, it just attracts me, and its where all the mobsters hang out, and I know my way around it the best. Least Favorite would be Shorside Vale. I like to drive, so staunton due to the long stretches of road, jumps, and other hazards. portland is a close second though. portland has a feeling, an atmosphere that isn't recreated anywhere else. SSV almost seems like a last minute addition, compared to the other islands. it just doesn't have much redeeming quality, it feels like it's missing something, but it's hard to pinpoint exactly what. I don't really have a favourite island to tell the truth, I tend to use both Staunton and Portland about the same. That is, until the Mafia hate me! I've only got to drive around on the PS2 and the game will crash (too many fast kills doing laps around Cocks Stadium's footpath (sidewalk in American English); unusable money pickups everywhere causes an invisible unhandled exception and a complete lock up!) unopescio Posted August 2, 2007 Share Posted August 2, 2007 My first run through GTA3 back when it first came out, my favorite island was Stauton, but now its Portland, tightly packed with loads of places to explore, I love it SSV always had something lacking I though, like the mappers got bored by then and just wanted to finish it. Hmmm nice bike Posted August 11, 2007 Share Posted August 11, 2007 From most favorite to least, and why: Staunton Island: First, it's good for police chases. It has nice, long roads, and that FDR-like road that borders the island. I also like the whole downtown feel to it, with the skyscrapers and everything. It also has some cool landmarks like the Bush Stadium, the park, and the casino. It also has only two (one at the end) gang (s) that hate you, and their weapons are weak. Portland: I HATE how I can hardly even visit this island anymore without getting pulled out of my car by the Diablos, shot at by Triads, or blown up by the Leones! All the gangs hate you when you leave it! You can't be in any gang area without getting attacked, which makes doing side missions or collecting hidden packages impossible, or atleast a pain in the ass! Now I can't go crusing in a Banshee in Saint Marks (my favorite neighborhood) without the car exploding. This would make a good reason to keep Ray's bullet-proof Patriot, and have good driving skills. I also don't like how the roads aren't as long as Staunton, which makes me try not to get into a chase. What I DO like is the Saint Marks district (of course, when I start a new game, so I don't get blown up by shotguns), the charecters we meet when we start, and places like the Car Showroom. Shorside Vale: I don't like much of this place. I hate how the roads are all screwy. Very hard to do paramedic in. When I first played the game, I got lost in it a couple times. Also, the airport, though I like it, seems like it just fell out of the sky. As it was mentioned before, the beta map (which can be seen in my GTA 3 beta video) had the airport on Staunton, and it was most likely added to make Shorside Vale less boring. I also don't like how we only get ONE storyline mission there, and it's the last mission. Plus, why do we need a second industrial zone (Pike Creek)? Mr. PA Posted September 5, 2007 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Portland: I pretty much memorize it by heart, which helped me a ton. The positive side about it is that it is easy to get around and I enjoyed the missions. The atmosphere was calming for me and relaxing, until the Diablos started stealing my cars, Triads starting going on a rampage to kill me, and the Mafia blowing my car up in a second. Staunton Island: Big city; easy to get around. The positive side is all of the cool locations you can drive to and how this place is good for completing the game 100%. R3 missions are probably the easiest to complete here. The ramps, jumps, and roads are a good addition to completing stunts the easy way. Only 2 gangs hate you and those 2 gangs, the Cartel and Yardies, aren't very great car destroyers - atleast not for me - when you drive around. There are a few negative sides to this. Especially when you drive around the construction site, the Cartel shoot like crazy, but you get used to it after a bit of wondering there. What makes this island great is that I know my way around. Shoreside Vale - I only begun to memorize it, so I still have a few problems when going there. What I enjoy while on this island is the Airport, although I do not know how to master the flying machine, the Dodo. A positive to this island are the features. Rich, skilled masterminds live behind those mansions and your middle class in another section. Makes it seem like real life. A huge negative about this island are the missions you try to complete. Honestly, setting a couple of missions on this island is a waste. Why couldn't it be like Portland and Staunton Island? My least favourite island would have to be Shorside Vals because of the total lack of things to do and the horrible "hip-hop" type gangs. If it was the Mafia it would be better. All Shoreside Vale is are a bunch of houses. In Portland there are burnt down buildings, long and exciting Mafia history and evreything that you should want!
