spdrman8
Texas based tech company International Parallel Machines has a bone to pick with Sony. The firm has asserted (via lawsuit) that the PlayStation 3's cell processors have, like, infringed on a patent, man. The suit claims Sony's use of the Cell processor is "causing irreparable harm and monetary damage," and seeks fees and damages. Pretty standard, right? But the company also wants a recall and destruction of any and all Sony products that use the technology. DESTRUCTION! Sony has thus far refused to comment. The cell processor was developed jointly by Sony, IBM and Toshiba. We're no lawyers or anything, and maybe International Parallel Machines has a point, or maybe (just maybe) this is one of those patent-trolling things, where small companies sue big companies not because they believe they have a case, but because they think the bigger companies will settle and they'll get some dough. Capitalism is fun! LINK

ryuclan
THis sounds kind of far fetched. I mean to recall that many machines, AND destroy them would take too much money. If this is true, sony is out of it for this generation. Come on Sony, this cant be true. Note: I am not a fan boy I am just supporting sony because this endangers gaming in general. Not just Sony gaming.

Knight_Yellow
If there are any actual decent points to the law suit sony will just crush it with their wallet. There will be no PS3 recall, im more likely to get hit by lightning and win the lottery both UK and Euro millions in the next week than that. Also anybody else here that microsoft denies its responsible for the 360 that caught fire and killed a baby?

erbzzz
Yeah, I looked at that patent 5056000. It seems pretty general but sony may very well settle. Check out this article if you want quadruple the info that the g4 link gives. Full SONY vs Parallel Processing Corporation story
beanmachine43
I wouldn't be too concerned for Sony at anyway. They've managed to avoid all the stupid, trivial cases like this and most likely it'll be settled out of court or dropped completely.

SIP YEK NOD
cycon77foamy[GTA Man]' date='Aug 2 2007, 02:04'] Is this the same company that sued Sony over the rumble? I knew it was another Texas based company. Does Texas have sumthing against sony? texas is a patent trolls playground. 90% of patent trolls sue in marshall texas. the laws there are so out of date, its the easiest place to win. the "company" suing sony doesn't exist as far as the internet is concerned suggesting its not a tech company, but rather a group of patent lawyers who bought the rights to the patent in question. zainkool
I heard of it on Attack of the Show on G4 and i doubt it will affect Sony and the PS3. Sony will settle this case with no problem like they did with the Sixaxis issue

zainkool
Also anybody else here that microsoft denies its responsible for the 360 that caught fire and killed a baby? I didn't believe you at first but then i thought there might be chance its true. So I did a search on Google and there a bunch of articles on this. Microsoft clearly denies it saying there no evidence the X-box 360 caused the fire. They also say that the unit that was in the fire wasn't even available at that time, which I highly disagree with. The article also mentions that Microsoft did pull 14 Million units of the Original X-box of the market because there were concerns that the power supply units were at risk of catching on fire. That why I'm going with the PS3, it more liable since its from Sony. Sony makes great products that last long. My ps2 is still working for 4 years after all that I've done to it. The PS3 also has fan to cool it off...PS3 RULEZ Edited August 2, 2007 by zainkool
